Absolutely hands down THE worst Eastern European food I have ever had!!!!!! And the prices?! Are you kidding me?!?!?! The food was SO unappealing visually and so unpleasant tasting, we took 1 bite and told the waiter that we were leaving. Absolutely disgusting. Chicken Paprikash and the Goulash were inedible. First time at Old Prague. Had the Wiener Schnitzel. It was great. Now you need to add sauerkraut and take the lemon wedge,squeeze it on the schnitzel,and then put all the sauerkraut on the schnitzel. Then enjoy a great taste! Get It With Sauerkraut: it's a few $ extra but SO WORTH IT Stephanie was just the best.The free WiFi was a plus. read more

A little place my Czechoslovak-descended girlfriend wanted to try to get a taste of her heritage. The atmosphere is so charming. Does quite well at evoking that authentic feel of "the old country." Wait staff was incredibly pleasant and knowledgeable on the traditional dishes. The sricova I had was certainly unique to my Pennsylvania Dutch palate, but was highly enjoyed! Be aware, Americans, these are not American-sized portions! Still quite filling, regardless. A very cool experience, would definitely come back again! read more

Where to start. I was really excited to check this place out. Looks like a really cool place and have heard good things. Looked forward to sitting out on the patio with some friends and when asked about seating was told that it was "first come first serve" and advised to "stake out a table" by the server inside- Not to mention the lack of social distancing taking place, and the improperly worn masks by the staff- we acknowledged this and waited patiently for over an hour for a table to open up. After taking it upon ourselves to check in with a table to ask if we could take their table once they were done, the same table who happily offered up there seats insinuating they were almost done, and closing out their tab ended up ordering more drinks from the (packed) bar, while making snarky comments about us waiting for them to leave. The restaurant put us in a position to fend for a table and then some employee had the gull to tell us "these people were here first" after the "Karen" sitting at the table proudly admitted to being there for over 3 hours. Most decent establishments have imposed a 2 hour maximum for guests to dine during COVID19 or at the very least imposed a sort of wait list for the "first come first serve areas." Just really disappointed that this place left us to stand and wait around and let these people linger around after they had already closed out while my group and several other people were waiting to eat and put money in the pockets of their servers and eventually forced to leave. Our inadequate experience does not even begin to account for the lack of concern and organization regarding the regulations put in place regarding the pandemic, (many individuals were forced to stand closely to others to then scour and sit at uncleaned tables in order to secure a spot). Hope they realize this "fend for yourself" strategy is not only unsafe and lazy but totally inconsiderate of customers. Do better Prague. read more

What a great find! We pulled in here because we've spent some time in the Czech Republic and thought it would be fun to revisit that cuisine, and we weren't disappointed. The roast pork was terrific, as was the Paprikash, and the bread dumplings were just as we remembered them. The decor is very cozy, and we enjoyed the beer list. But best of all was the terrific service; everyone was so friendly and the cook even walked through and asked how everything was. This was a neat place to eat at, I was able to get out outdoor seating on a Sunday evening. I don't drink, but my companion had a few beers and he enjoyed them. The food was tasty but I found they over embellished the menu items. I ordered the sampler platter. What is titled as "fried provolone" are really mozzarella sticks. "Fried potatoes" is simply potato chips, but these are good slightly thicker potato chips. I did enjoy the sauerkraut balls. This was a nice place to eat at so I was grateful. read more

Waitress and service were very good. Maybe it's because it's off season but food was cool and bland. Had potato pancakes for an appetizer. They were the best part of the dinner. They were cooked well and served with sauerkraut and sour cream. We each had the chicken paprikash for the entree. Chicken was a round breast piece that was very tough which I think was microwaved. The sauce was cool and bland. I had the dumpings with mine which were flavorless and cold. My wife had the spaetzle which were also flavorless and cold. Used a generous amount of salt but to no avail. Overall it was just bland overpriced food. read more

Scrumptious, old timey Czech and Hungarian dishes in this very ethnic belt along northern Ohio's lakeshore. Vermilion is a very old port town and deserves more great restaurants, but they are few and far between. read more

The Old Prague Restaurant is my favorite getaway in Vermilion. The atmosphere, food, and staff are all top of the line. The outside patio offers a relaxed environment with live music almost every night, and a great view of downtown. The inside features a formal dining room, bar, sitting area, and stage; It is the perfect location for an intimate dinner. The food is authentic and delicious. The wienerschnitzel and the chicken paprikash are to die for! The servers and bartenders are professional, friendly, and attentive. The owner is a genuine person that enjoys hearing feedback from his guests and strives for perfection. It is a great place to go to unwind, enjoy great food, and meet fabulous people! read more

Agree with another post, this was the worst dining experience myself or my family has ever had. Shortly after moving to Vermilion, I unfortunately chose The Old Prague for the place where my parents would meet my boyfriend (now husband) for the first time. The entrance should have scared us away, but we were blinded by love and foolish. Anyone who enters must fight the urge to flee from dozens of half dead and dusty potted plants being baked alive in a filthy front window. The dirty, greasy window curtains cling to a bent rod. The photos of what I assume to be "Prague" are "old", faded and covered in a nicotine film. All of the beers we attempted to order were unavailable. Every. Single. Beer. Everyone at my table ordered the Chicken Paprikash. It is a classic dish that both my mother and I have perfected over the years. I am always eager to try a new & authentic version. We received platefuls of cold, microwaved Sysco (industrial food supplier) dumplings covered with a fluorescent orange sauce and what we think were grilled frozen boneless chicken nuggets. Each plate cost upwards of $15 and was wholeheartedly indigestible. Anyone who would look at this slop and call it a good version of chicken paprikash is either blind, lacks taste buds or is straight up insane. None of us touched our food. Given the importance of the day, we were all polite and just paid the bill & left. Since then we cannot understand how they stay in business. There are never any cars in the lot and it looks abandoned, yet people claim it's a wonderful restaurant. If you like food, don't eat here. read more

I have lived in the area for many years & had wanted to go into the place,so I went & was not impressed, it was early afternoon only one other couple there, service was slow,I got the chicken paprikash,(I had it in Toledo many years ago I remembered it being delicious] was not even warm & was flavorless ,small proportions for the price. We found this place on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and enjoyed every minute! The outdoor patio was very pleasant, with music and new friends to make. I had the Paprikash and a Czech beer, and my wife had an appetizer plate, sausage and sauerkraut, potato pancakes, some kind of chopped meat loaf, and a beautiful house made mustard. Had a good meal at the restaurant. Went to eat my leftovers at home, opened the box to find a COCKROACH inside!! Called the restaurant, spoke to the manager, who told me I must have been mistaken because their restaurant doesn't have cockroaches, and he promptly hung up on me!! If you like sweet sour kraut you're gonna love this place. It was on top of the pirogies and potato pancakes. And INSIDE of the pirogies. This is really a German restaurant. We will not return and did not think it was authentic Czech as advertised. Our family is Czech and spent an average of $18 per person for this meal. We didn't even have alcohol. The outside bar is great, live music and nice locals that love their town. My first glass of beer had lip prints all around the glass. (Yuck). I ordered the perch with seasonal veggies. (No doubt in my mind that the veggies came out of the freezer). Perch was good and honestly I had a good time. I doubt I'll eat here in the cold months. read more

Insane experience. The service alone would make me come back. First class, felt like family and was treated special because it was our first visit. Definitely worth the 30 mile trek from home. I was really looking forward to this place based on the reviews. I went away feeling disappointed. I felt the prices were too high for the portions especially since soup or salad was not included. My husband had the Chicken Paprikash, our daughter the Goulash and their plates were steaming hot but my Svickova was barely warm. While the food had good taste, it just lacked something, maybe a side vegetable We had an hour drive but even it was 5 minutes away, we would not go back. read more

We came into this Czech resturaunt with a group of 11 early in the night, 5 adults and 6 kids. Decor was what I would call "traditional", old world Czech, lots of knitted prints and old tourist adverts. There was a nice outdoor patio bar which I would definitely check out another day if I didn't have the kids. The food seemed analogous to german food with a twist. The Duck was very good and a huge portion. One of my friends had the pork which was not as good as what we had cooked a few nights earlier on the grill but that was from an organic farm so the comparison almost doesn't seem fair. I had the Weinerschnitzel which was very enjoyable. Sides were Czech Bread Dumplings which weren't what I expected and seemed semi-tasteless. I apparently missed that there was some kind of orange sauce that was supposed to go with them, and I heard that made them taste better. They also had spaetzle which is basically a soft egg noodle and those were very good. I'm not a fan of saurkraut but I have to say the one they served here was very sweet and delicious. The one complaint was that the kids menu was very limited to the local cuisine, and thankfully my kids like calamari so I just ordered them that. The beer menu was pretty good too I had a very dark Primator Premium Dark Lager which was excellent. Our waitress was in her third week working there and only her third night serving herself. She was unsure of herself but she got everything right and was super nice. The chef was also very nice and came out to our table two times to talk to us. As we were in a side room off the main dining area, they let the kids play a board game on the floor while waiting for the food, which I thought was very cool of them. All in all, I'd recommend going here, especially if you never had Czech food before and want to try something different. PS - one of my party did not like it here. She thought her food was not good (baked salmon) and that the service took too long. read more

I would not recommend. We ordered two appetizers the calamiri and something else which i can not remeber the name of. The calamari was actaully pretty good. The other app was not horrible but i wouldnt choose to eat it again, it looked like sausages, with a honey mustard sauce. For the main course we both ordered chicken paprikash which was very salty and bland. The service was good i will give them that much. read more

This is the most fun place in town. Food is great, staff is like family, and live music outside five nights a week! I recommend the Pilsner Urquell with the shishki app to start, and either the schnitzel or chicken paprikash entree. Owner Mike Lich is continually making the place better. read more

I went here in 2010 and it was the worst dining experience one can have. The new owners fiance is a server and she has a terrible attitude and no customer service skills what so ever. She argued with us repeatedly and pushed us away from ordering certain dishes because she said the kitchen more less couldn't handle it. I recommend trying another restaurant, don't waste your money or take a chance on ruining your day. read more

I am from Vermilion, and eons ago, we ate at the Prague weekly. The place was bursting with patrons and the food was delicious. We moved away and haven't eaten there in years. Last Saturday, 6 of us went there to eat before going to a concert. We had only an hour for dinner. We wanted to eat outside, however, all of the large tables were filled. One only had one person sitting at it and three others only had 2 people. The bar manager was very nice, but unless they start seating people appropriately, their tables will be monopolized by an inappropriate number of person(s). After waiting 15 minutes, we decided to go inside. We walked inside and there were many empty tables. We started to sit down and the waitress told us that no tables were available and we had to go outside. When I told her none were available outside, she said, and I quote, " too bad for you". We left and went somewhere else to eat. Whether we go there again, remains to be seen! read more
