Went here with my husband to check this church out since it was near to where we lived. The main…read moresanctuary sits upstairs and for some reason is dimly lit. I noticed that all the shades were drawn on the windows and the indoor lighting made me feel like I was watching a performance. A few people greeted us upon arrival and offered us coffee and water bottles. The sanctuary is large but I noticed that there weren't a lot of people there to fill it up. The style of worship is contemporary with the words projected onto two screens off to the sides. I noticed a 3rd screen behind us which I assumed was for the benefit of those on the worship platform. The service seemed to be rushed with hardly any breaks in between. When worship was over they had a quick "greet your neighbor" but as we looked around as strangers only one person came over and shook our hands. The lead pastor then proceeded with today's message. As I was trying to follow it I noticed that they don't supply you with any Bibles and when I tried to read the Scriptures he was teaching from the words on the screens appeared small and blurry so I had a hard time with this. After the sermon they made general announcements and had their worship team come back and lead us into one final song. We were then dismissed. During the service no one really gave any acknowledgements to visiting guests whom we were and what we were supposed to do afterwards. First impressions say a lot about a church and for the few who did welcome us I am grateful. Yet I knew within 15 minutes of the service that this would not be a place I would like to come on a regular basis. The church is non-denominational and does have their statement of beliefs on their website. I'm glad I got the opportunity to see what this place is like but really each person has to decide for himself what best meets their needs.

This rating therefore is only limited to what type of church it is and what they have to offer. This is a charismatic non-demoninational church located in Scott Township. The congregation averages about 200 people. They have two services which you can elect to go either or both. The first is on Thurs. evenings at 7 and the second is Sunday mornings at 10. They have various small groups that meet during the week. They service is spontaneous rather than structured. Song lyrics are posted on a projected along with a ppt of the sermon of the day. They have a nursery, children's church up to about 6th grade. In the summer the offer a very good vacation Bible school. They have a large gym area for special functions along with a nice multipurpose room for teaching. There are other rooms for various purposes. This review is limited in scope to the annual Christmas light show held outside the church on their…read moregrounds by the parking lot. The show runs every night in Dec - Jan 3rd this year from 6-11 PM. The event is free and you are in for a treat! Upon arrival pull up behind one of the parked cars in front of you in one of the "enter here" lane and turn off everything including headlights, with the exception of the car radio. Set the radio FM station 96.7 to listen to an hour long musical and vocal presentation accompanying the visual light effects and the familiar faces you will catch during the show. Among those faces are Santa, Rudolph, Mrs. Claus, a few elves, and father Alek from the church. They will narrate you on a journey that takes you everywhere from patriotic to pop along with Tran Siberian Orchestra. The story of the Nativity is woven in throughout the presentation. Don't worry if you can get a clear view at first. Eventually the cars parked in front of you will move on so you can move up and get a front row view. The show runs on a continuous loop for an hour and usually starts on the half hour mark. You can come in anywhere throughout the presentation and not miss a thing. I loved how the lights were able to project images of the earth, air force planes, and even song lyrics. Perhaps my favorite was the renditioning of the "Hallelujah" chorus. The display is very family friendly and makes a great way to see a holiday show without too much of a wait and of course the event is free to the public. No donations are asked for or accepted for this awesome event. When you have finished watching the show just exit onto Greentree Rd from the church's exit ramp. This is a great way to experience some of the joys of the holiday season and one of Pittsburgh's best kept secrets for holiday lights. St Simon and Jude church is located on Greentree Rd not far from Cochran. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a family friendly holiday activity!

They always have fresh coffee and hot tea right outside the sanctuary for those that just can't make it through the service without that jolt of java. They have many Ministries, but unlike Orchard Hill Church and others like them, they focus on their local community. While they help others abroad, they're more concerned with helping their fellow community members right here in our own backyard. And that's just plain nice. They have counseling (professional, licensed therapists), Bible studies, lots of things for kids and teens, mature adults, and everybody in between. There's absolutely no excuse for not getting involved, because there's something for everyone. This really is a slice of life here.... Just a really good mix of local Folk.
