I am extremely happy with the service and products I received here when I came to get my ear lobes pierced. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable. Cleanliness is a priority as is making sure that customer knows how to care for their piercing. This is what I term "you get what you pay for." I'm sure you can get your ears pierced for less someplace else or even have a friend do it for you. Piercings are serious procedures that can cause infections or other undesirable results. I got a septum piercing in another state, and I could tell something was off. Made an appt at Old Traditions for their opinion and they were instantly able to tell me it was pierced crooked. They took it out for me and said to come back once it heals to get it re done. Well I finally got it redone! And I am sooo happy with the way it came out! Bryan was incredible. He was patient with me (I was very nervous lol) and explained everything that he was doing step by step. I have extremely weird nose anatomy and he really took his time with feeling where the jewelry should go, making marks, and then double checking it. His bedside manners are impeccable. The person at the front desk was also extremely welcoming, had great advice for picking my jewelry, and was very patient as I decided which jewelry I wanted. The shop is comfortable, clean, and inviting. I felt very safe with everyone there. Even the plants are well taken care of! And for a bonus, they anodized the jewelry at no extra cost. A septum piercing is something I've wanted for a very long time. STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND BOOK IMMEDIATELY. I cannot express how blown away I was with my experience with Old Traditions. Here is my story: After a back to back failed septum piercing due to crooked placement caused by my deviated septum, I was on the hunt for a shop that would be able to work with my anatomy. Before I even went to the shop, I was able to chat with Chux, the shop owner/best human, on IG. We talked about my first attempt and I shared pictures of my deviation. In response, he shared photos of a previous client with a severe deviation which made me excited to know there was hope for me! So I traveled from the city to the burbs and booked an appointment on a Monday; was able to get in a little earlier than my scheduled time - yay! I was already feeling confident but when I physically walked into the shop I was just at ease. The space and staff is extremely calming yet inviting. Chux did an examination of my nostrils to make sure we chose the jewelry that would fit me best...he even offered to make a custom piece on the spot -- SO cool (although a little out of my price range, just the option was special). He also already had a game plan in his head for me based on the pictures I provided prior to visiting. That thoughtfulness was extremely welcoming. Once we chose my piece, I was brought back to a room to get started. And let me tell you...these rooms!?! Full on medical grade equipment, could double as a dentist office. Just a pristine, clean, and safe environment. Honestly, the actual piercing could. Not. Have. Been. More. Pain. Less. And I know that was due to Chux expertise and care. The rest of the shop was kinda watching in a collaborative/educational way and their support was SO fun to have on my side. When the ring was in, before I could see, I hear: "That's perfecccct" and Chux goes "mic drop" -- talk about reassurance!? But I often "white out" after piercings and tattoos and sure enough, I did on this one. However, never before have I been placed back down on the table/bed and tilted backwards to have my feet above my head at an angle. This caused all the blood to rush back to my brain and recover quicker than usual. And I've never felt more comforted during what typically is an embarrassing moment. Chux kept saying "we're in no rush" and all the other staff was helping bringing me water and glucose tabs to get my sugars up. I am seriously getting chills writing this bc it was just suchhhh a fantastic experience!!! TL;DR...run, don't walk to book at Old Traditions!!! read more

i went in for a septum piercing last month. the service was professional and the process was virtually painless! the building is well-lit with a minimalist design and high-quality jewelry options. my piercer was kind, skilled, and knowledgeable about the "sweet spot", which is the proper placement for this piercing to ensure minimal pain and an easy healing process. my septum healed very quickly and i am happy with how it turned out. i initially wanted a gold barbell, which they did not have (totally fine! they had tons of other gold jewelry, i was just set on the barbell), so the girl at the front desk offered to anodize the silver titanium barbell to a gold color. creative and helpful suggestion! i did ultimately decide to stick with the silver, but later that week, i found out that anodizing jewelry to other colors is possible. i'm not knowledgeable on the process so it hadn't occurred to me to ask. i wish the option was presented to me because i might have chosen blue i left the size of my jewelry at the discretion of my piercer because i trusted her judgment. i was happy with her choice, although i think it would have been helpful to see different gauges side by side. in retrospect, i might have chosen a thicker barbell. all in all, i WOULD recommend this place to others! thank you old traditions for my septum! read more

For my 18th birthday I really wanted to get pierced. I was originally going to go to Klas in Sugar Grove, but I wasn't able to go there so I made an appointment online for Old Traditions. They had pretty good reviews overall. If you come here, be ready to spend a pretty big amount of money because these people will really try and run you for your money. I'm willing to pay more for quality jewelry and trustworthy piercers but the spending here is excessive. I was planning on getting my nipples and septum pierced so I picked out jewelry for both. My nipple jewelry was $75 each which was fine. Then, the piercer who's name was Em helped me pick out my septum jewelry and recommended this nose ring that had czs on it. I didn't know that they were czs until my boyfriend told me. I really wish they would've showed me a wide array of jewelry with all sorts of price points because when they added up my total it came out to $350 for both piercings and jewelry. Absolutely insane. So I picked a different nose ring that wouldn't totally break the bank and that helped the price a little bit. For the piercing, Em helped me feel comfortable because I mentioned I was really fucking nervous to have needles put through my boobs haha. She explained everything that she was doing: marking where the piercings would go, making sure that I liked the dots and making sure they were even, etc. The nipple piercings went smoothly and while they hurt like a motherfucker, but were overall worth it. The staff members at Old Traditions were nice for the most part, a little standoff-ish but as my boyfriend was goofing off and playfully bickering with me in the piercing room, Em got kinda upset and told him angrily that she would kick him out of the room?? He was just joking around with me, but okay.. She just doesn't know our relationship and how we goof off.. Okay fine? My boyfriend was the one who was paying for my piercings anyways. He gave Em no reason to not like him, and was paying a lot of money for both my piercing and jewelry so they should respect him regardless if they don't like him (for whatever reason). I ended up deciding that two piercings was enough and that I would save the septum for another day... And another piercing shop. P.S: Piercings are by appointment only, not walk-ins. If you do choose to go here, be sure to book an appointment on their website. Last appointments are at 7:30 pm (30 mins before they close), I saw lots of people getting turned away after 7:30. Went because I saw an ad online. Went with an appointment and waited for one hour. Finally got my piercings done. The two women who did them brought some other guy to look at my chest for no reason. Went back two weeks later because a piece of the piercing came off and was gone. They replaced it for free but sent the male piercer to do the work. Then, the two original women came out from the back giggling. I felt like I was being disrespected. The work they did was fine. Their professionalism not so much. read more

Scheduled a consultation online for a naval repierce as I was unsure if my naval would be pierce-able after all the years (about 4) ring was removed. My entire experience lasted less than 10 minutes! I was warmly welcomed before Chux took me back to check out my situation. He explained that it was more than likely still open and we picked jewelry just in case. After investigation, it was in fact open and new jewelry was placed! Chux and old traditions was courteous of not charging for services not utilized (such as piercing) and I was only charged for new jewelry and the consultation. I'm going to start with this review saying Chux is wonderful with making you feel comfortable and personable, and the ambiance is what keeps me coming back, with the piercers being completely professional & absolutely know their shit. That said, they can be VERY pushy on me getting the expensive 150$+ jewelry, Sure, hypoallergenic crafter jewelry is expensive, but upselling you on top of the rising piercing fees when I can get the same looking jewelry for cheaper AND hypoallergenic, is disheartening. BUT, that's not what I'm writing a review for. I was told for a navel piercing that the fee would be taken away since Em was an apprentice. Though I already made the appointment, so I was charged without the return of the funds. I further asked and she told me "Yes I took care of that" but my bank statements said otherwise. SO, when I came in for the Two For One Piercings day, I explained the situation that I did not get the refund of 35$+ for booking even though Em said she would waive my piercing fee. The receptionist told me she would do that. BUT, during the Two for One Piercings day, I was charged for BOTH PIERCINGS and waived the previous fee that Em agreed upon. This is the situation where I feel they try and sneak more funds from you instead of just being genuine and helping the guests :( It would've been the 35$+ refund and charged for only ONE set of jewelry :( and it does make me sad to write this because the place is very clean & very polite people! And I want to go back more. But I just hate to feel on guard that they'll try to get as much money from you/sneak more funds rather then just helping you and abiding from their agreement :( From Em not following through with waiving the fee. Even though I reminded her what we've previously agreed upon. To whomever at the front desk (I think Emily) not giving the promotion because she had to waive the previous fee for me that wasn't waived. read more

This was probably the worse piercing experience I've ever had. I got my ear pierced over 2 or 3 months ago here and still remember exactly what happened because I was so upset that day. Let's just say, I walked in this place happy and excited to get pierced with my boyfriend and then I walked out crying hysterically. The girl at the front desk was very sweet and helped me choose my jewelry. My boyfriend canceled his appointment because they were trying to charge him the same as me for the basic standard first time lobe piercing. I wanted two cartilage piercings in the same ear. And they tried to charge both of us $140 each. I could understand that price for me but for his first time ever being pierced. $140 dollars was nuts. So he canceled but I wanted to stay and get pierced. So, the owner, Chux finally called us to the back room and there was no friendly greeting or anything. I went in and laid on the table. He confirmed that I'm getting the double helix piercing. And I said yes. As he was getting everything ready, he was talking my ear off about how Claire's is the worst place in the world to go to and how it's like putting a metal spoon in your ear. Idk, he was just talking about a bunch of stuff I didn't care about. I went to Claire's to get my ears pierced two times when I was a kid and I'm still alive. Anyways, me and my boyfriend keep saying mhm and agreeing to everything this man is saying because we're just trying to be nice. This is where everything takes a left turn. I asked him as he was holding the piercing needle, "hey, are you gonna mark it and show me where you're going to pierce my ear first?" And he said "no" in a bold and rude tone. And I laughed because I thought he was kidding and then he pierced my ear super rough right after saying no. I immediately panicked like wait I wasn't ready! And he struggled to get it through. And then he quickly tried to pierce the second one and I had my hand by my ear like can u wait cuz wtf. Let me recover from the first one. I immediately started crying because he would not let go of my ear and allow me to get myself together. He was like what's wrong and I was like you didn't even count or let me know where you were going to pierce me. It's my body not yours tf. He did what he wanted with my ear. He finished the second one and I got up to see it. And started crying even more bc I hated the placement and he put the earrings in the wrong place because he never asked me how I wanted it. He was like "awe I feel bad, you want me to fix it?" And I was like hell no, don't touch my ear anymore. And he went out and asked another piercer to come in and talk to me. Her name was Emily she was super sweet. She fixed my piercings and offered to take either the piercing or jewelry charge off. And she told me I would have to come back eventually to get the earring post shortened. And I never went back. That place gives me ptsd now. So Emily gave me tissues and I tried to get myself together bc I didn't wanna walk out the room and everyone see I was crying and think I was a pussy who can't get pierced. It wasn't the piercing that had me crying, my feelings were just hurt after being super cool with this man and he still pierced my ear how he wanted, not how I wanted it to be pierced. So Emily takes the charges off and the price goes from $138 dollars to $75. My boyfriend asked if she could also put his $25 booking fee towards it since he canceled and didn't wanna get pierced. So that made the total like $45. My boyfriend paid for me and I walked out still upset asf with puffy eyes. It is like 3 months later and the piercings have grown on me. Stopped by to switch out my old nose ring I got done elsewhere. I was pretty clueless cause I told them I "needed my nose ring cut" and the receptionist/front desk/(first person that greeted me) was really confused. She explained the different sizes or "posts" to me. We looked at all the various nose rings they had. Took my son here to get his lobes pierced for the first time. I didn't really know what to expect, but expectations were exceeded. The girl who checked us in was really friendly. She asked to see my ID and an ID for my son. He doesn't have a state ID, but they accepted a birth certificate. As a parent, I appreciated that she was by the book and was checking. Chux did the piercing. He was really friendly & professional. The dude knows his stuff! We went during COVID and could tell that they were taking sanitizing and sterilization seriously.
