It was the first incorporated religious body in the United States controlled entirely by African-Americans. In 1866 the African Union Church was joined by the First Colored Methodist Protestant Church to form the African Union Methodist Protestant Church. Due in large part to the efforts of Reverend Edward H. Chippey (1825-1900), this denomination experienced a great period of growth in the years following the Civil War. In 1886 this site was purchased for use by church members residing in the Hockessin community. The house of worship that was built here was known as "Chippey Chapel." It was rebuilt in 1896, and the congregation was formally incorporated as Chippey A.U.M.P. Church the following year. After many years of service, the old building was demolished in 1971. Through the hard work and financial support of its members, the construction of the present church was completed in June 1972. If you come know this, its a two and a half to three hour service so don't come until 12:15. if your lucky you'll catch a song or two then the service but be warned. The pastor can run long and is dry at times. we've got up and left after two hours and the pastor hadn't said a word yet. but if you want a large congregation that does a lot of community outreach program's, and big on music and singing this is your place

I know the people that wrote the other reviews are lying. I went to this church before I moved…read moreaway. The services are alive and refreshing and the presence of the Lord is there. This church has a good representation and is trustworthy and actively supports the community. In fact, the state of Delaware comes to them for help. The pastor doesn't take ANY money or offerings from the church because he has his own money and he is a self-made millionaire. These people don't represent Christ or his followers and are going to church for the wrong reasons. They are not edifying the body of Christ but are being critical and acting like the devil.

A beautiful, well-kept, ritzy little Main Line cemetery filled with lush trees and surrounded by a…read morelow brick wall. Spooky gravestones mark the resting place for wealthy Main line citizenry. Deeper inside is the famous statue of 'mad' General Anthony Wayne; of Revolutionary War fame. For years, the tradition for local teenagers was to slip over this rampart on 'Mischief Night' in October and hesitantly make their way as far into the darkened grounds as they had nerve for. Because the legend was that mad ole Anthony Wayne's ghost could at any moment come charging out at them, at full gallop, astride his rampaging ghost horse. I've gone in there though, and escaped without harm. Have you?

If I didn't already have a church home, Ezion Fair would be my home! A new friend invited me to…read moreattend Ezion because they were hosting AKA Day (our sorority - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc). I attended the 8 a.m. service. The praise and worship team was phenomenal. They definitely ushered in the holy spirit. The prayer was great. And, the Pastor was anointed. It was a great spirit-filled service. What i liked most is that they had something for everyone. There were lots of ministries to get involved and stay connected with if you are a member. A wonderful place to be fed the Word of God and have your natural needs met (Girl and Boy Scouts a day care center, etc). Unfortunately, AKA Day was actually at the 11 a.m. service so I didn't get to stay for that but I had an awesome time! The Church has a Facebook page so you can find more about them there!
