Italians can be both imaginative and unimaginative when it comes to food. Small independent restaurants and pizzerias abound, and there are some restaurants geared to Italian styled meat and seafood along with an increase in sushi and Asian food. However, some cities have suburbs with newer housing stock and shopping centers and, it is in this environment that you will have chain restaurants. The world is a village. The chains will be the fast food names you know, but also eateries like Old Wild West steakhouse.
This Old Wild West is smartly located on the upper floor of a shopping center in very close proximity to the "Grande Alberghi" zone at the end of the beach strand in Montesilvano. There is another decent chain named Roadhouse Grill, but I like this one better.
What is commendable is that they've put a lot of effort into making their restaurants seem just like the chain steakhouses you'd find in the United States. They did not cut corners on decking out the restaurants with this theme, and it works.
That said, you go inside and, if from North America, it feels very familiar. You ask for a table and you might even tell them where you want to sit. The area with the windows toward the front is nicer if you like natural light. They will bring you a menu, give you some time, and return to take your order.
The menu at Old Wild West is vast! They feature a lot of choices. If you go during the window of time set aside for lunch (pranzo), they will offer various specials. I ordered a platter with sliced beef, large steakhouse fries, and a soft drink. The beef had shaved cheese over it and garnishes. It was easily a 4 star platter for this genre. But, if there is anything that would make that 4 airtight, it would be the barrel from which you can help yourself to a bucket of peanuts.
The people who work here are younger guys and gals who are energetic and polite. Some of them might be in the area for their schooling and work in at this Old Wild West, not seeming much different from their American counterparts doing the same thing. The world is a village.
I left the restaurant satisfied, walked through this newer shopping mall to go outside, and one sees both parking and transit. If you want transit, bus line #2 from the main Pescara train station to Grande Alberghi stops about a block away. Sure, you want to try as many indie restaurants you can to sample what this region offers, but, here at Old Wild West, what they have is reliable and fairly priced, so if practicality is winning over imagination, this restaurant is a very safe bet. read more
