Noodle texture is less chewy than I prefer by a slight margin, but still delivers satisfying bites for each noodle. Toppings are also generous, with a very healthy balance of napa cabbage stirfry accompanying our protein toppings. Cumin lamb burger was fresh and hot, flaky and flavourful. This was my first time trying the combo and it did not disappoint. Cold noodle and shredded spicy potato were good - not my usual picks but both were light and refreshing. Mild spice levels really are quite tame, I would opt for medium to change it up next time! I stopped by this place after arriving at the airport. Our server was extremely friendly and they gave us a physical menu to order as well as a qr code on the table. Xian cold noodle Xian hand pulled noodle with hot spicy oil I love a good spicy chewy noodle and this is definitely the place for it. They also let you customize the spice level (mild medium spicy) which is nice if you can't handle spice well. I opted for medium for both dishes and found them not spicy enough lol. I loved the cold noodles and I loved the tangy sauce but my friend was not a fan so if you don't enjoy vinegar be careful when ordering. However I absolutely loved it. I liked the balance of the fresh cucumbers and bean sprouts as well. When eating this dish, be sure to eat the soy proteins first (or put them in your bowl) to avoid them soaking up too much sauce. I found that the last few bites were too vinegary because of all the sauce at the bottom of the bowl I would definitely come back to try their sesame sauce cold noodle Xian hand pulled noodles. For this dish you can customize the noodle (?) and I tried the biang biang noodles. I don't think I was a fan of this noodle texture as it wasn't chewy enough for me. This dish was not my favourite out of the two as it felt like it was missing something. Maybe if there was some type of protein in it, it would taste better? I also tried their chilli sauce which I loved but still didn't find too spicy. I think it was more on the savoury side. Love lamb soup, the auntie working there also is super friendly and hilarious. I would come back for the soup. As for the fried pork chop, I know it's different, ones from the north and the others from the south. Southern Sweet and Sour Pork is so much better. Mainland Chinese restaurant in Continental Plaza. If spicy is your thing, this is the place to be. Parking is available in the large strip mall lot. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. The interior is quite modern. Looks almost like a Japanese restaurant, with the artwork on the walls and the light As of the time of writing, it actually costs more to dine in than order takeout(!?). The takeout ordering procedure is really convoluted and the website is Chinese only. Something to keep in mind. In other words, get a Chinese speaking (and literate) friend to order the food online, then eat inside if desired. Yeah it's weird. Maybe I'm living in the past, but I have never seen this before. Did I mention that the food here is spicy? Everything that looks red is covered in chili peppers. Everything that is green is mostly sliced jalapenos. My friends and I were sweating like crazy at the table. So beautiful. While we had a bunch of dishes off the specials menu, #1 cumin lamb and #10 Szechuan crispy pork are must haves. Both of these dishes are like crack. #2 hot fried lamb tripe is meh and can be skipped. #15 sweet and sour soup is decent, but tastes like any other place. Most of the items can be turned into a combo (slightly smaller portion and add a rice and drink) for a few dollars more. This is more for non group eating obviously. Food was delicious here. My friend picked up food and shared it with us. I got the noodle with stewed pork and a rice dish with eggplants, pork belly slice, potatoes and beef (not sure what it is called). There are two Old Xian's locations. My friend picked up the food from this location located inside Continental Plaza. The noodles were very flavorful. It was a bit oily but it was the tasty oiliness. The rice dish had lots going on. It was definitely enough for two people or two meals for one person. I really liked the flavor. It had a few red pepper so it could be slightly spicy. I was ok with the spice level. I did find it a lot of rice. But again this was a rice dish. I need to try the place in person with friends next time. read more

YESSSS! Now THIS is a restaurant!! This was definitely one of our favourite restaurants we tried in the Richmond area. Pretty much all the dishes we tried at Old Xian's Food were great. We had the Lamb Soup, Seared Oil Biang Biang Noodles, Garlic Lamb appetizer, and Cumin Lamb burger. Everything besides the burger knocked my socks off!! Something about the lamb here is really special. I'd really recommend the "Garlic Lamb". It sounds so boring but the lamb was so fragrant and tender, it had me singing! Badly, but I was singing still! Ask the waitress! She told me to stop scaring everyone but I kept going cuz it was that good! This restaurant wasn't too busy, but maybe that was because of covid. It definitely deserves to be more popular though!! The food was great, the portions were MASSIVE, and the prices were Vancouver! Old Xian's Food has a few locations. One in Richmond, two along Kingsway and one in downtown Vancouver. We decided to go to the Richmond location because we were in the area. Old Xian's Food is located in Continental Plaza right beside yet another Northern Chinese restaurant so talk about competition! We went at 6pm on a Saturday night and it wasn't too busy but by the time we were leaving around 7pm, the place started to fill up fast. The menu at Old Xian's offers quite a variety of items. After spending a good 15 minutes studying the menu, we both decided to go with a dry hot noodle dish. We were going to try one of their burgers too but I heard the noodle portions could be quite filling so we decided to hold off until later. When you choose a noodle dish at Old Xian's you're given the option of three different types of noodles to go with your dish. They didn't have knife cut noodles but they offer thin noodles, hand pulled noodles and their infamous biang biang noodle which is a thin thick noodle. Haven't dined at Richmond's Continental Center in a while, and when a couple of friends recommended Old Xian's for dinner, I was hoping this restaurant will be the reason I visit this strip mall more often again in the future. I have to say did my friends pick a winner! I haven't had this good thick / thin / hot / cold Chinese noodles in a long time and this includes my visits to China. We ordered the the cold dishes to start off Spicy Shredded Potato was perfectly sliced in thin strands and had the perfect balance of tangy taste and just enough spice. Next came the Xian Cold Noodle a vegetarian noodle dish with cucumbers, tofu, bean sprouts, and spicy paste that was refreshing. Our hot dishes consisted of Hand Pulled Thick Noodles with beef brisket, the braised broth was the star of the dish. Lastly we finished off with Cumin Lamb Fried Noodles. Place is definitely good value as the bill came out to only $15 per person. Staff were friendly and constantly checked on us to refill our tea cups. Free parking is plentiful in the strip mall parking lot but can fill up pretty quickly close to dinner time with the multitude of restaurants in Continental Center. read more

I love noodles and the pictures of biang biang noodles convinced me to have another visit here. It wasn't too busy here for a Sunday evening. We were able to get a table right away. I opted for the spicy oil noodles with vegetables. You can choose the spice level and I went with medium spiciness. I chose the biang biang noodle, which are very wide. Our dishes arrived pretty quickly after ordering. The portion was quite large. I didn't find the noodles to be spicy. I added some chili oil that was on the table and it had more spice. I liked this because it had a smokiness to it. The noodles had a nice chew to it and was pretty good. The service was pretty good too. They came around to refill tea and were friendly. Overall, the food is pretty cheap for the portion. For under $10, it was a large bowl of noodles. It wasn't amazing, but it was a solid bowl of noodles. read more

Old Xian's Food is an unassuming small restaurant in the Continental Shopping Centre. It's been a while since my last visit and I don't know why we don't come here more often. Value is amazing, and food is always superb. My go-to is their noodle with stewed lamb in soup. There are three choices of noodles but I always go for their biang biang (super wide) noodles. The lamb was tender and fatty. A 'simple' noodle soup with a broth that packs a flavourful punch. We also ordered cold xian noodles with mild spiciness, cumin fried noodles some veggies (a little too garlicky for me) and chicken wings (4 pieces very moist). The cumin fried noodles really hit the spot and left my belly warm. It was a sizeable portion with each bite tastier than the last. The noodles were best cooked in this particular dish this visit and had the best chew. There was also a good amount of veggies and meat in the dish as well. Because of covid, the restaurant is serving their dishes in takeaway containers which is a plus if you can't finish your food. I think every other table was blocked off, and in general they were spaced well apart. I'll be visiting again soon. read more

Omg! I am in love with this place and will forever dream about these noodles everywhere I go! At first, I was not expecting much since I am not the biggest fan of noodles, but this place changed my life. I love how the noodles are perfectly chewy and they are filled with so much flavor! Not to mention, you have to get the lamb. I usually don't love lamb because I feel like it it too gamy for me. However, they seasoned their lamb so well that I did not notice how gamy the meat was. Look at how WIDE that noodle is :0. I learned that this type of noodle is called 'biangbiang mian (noodle)' and originated in Xi'an, Shaanxi. I got the tomato and egg biangbiang noodle. The noodle was delicious but the egg and tomato sauce(?) was very bland...it tasted very healthy LMAO and I was really craving something more flavourful and heavier at the time. Regardless, still good. My mom got one of the signature lamb noodle soups and really enjoyed it. I'm not a big fan of lamb and did not try it but she said the soup base was well done (my mom has high food standards so the lamb soup must've been pretty good if she gave it a compliment ). The noodle itself is handmade which is one reason that makes the dishes so delicious. The only drawback, is that I think they use a lot of MSG? It sucks that they closed the Burnaby location, but this one is much better to be honest! Definitely worth a trip down to Richmond. The cold sesame noodles are BOMB and I'm still drooling thinking about it. You can never go wrong with sesame sauce, especially when it's paired with a mountain of cucumbers and seitan. I went to the Richmond location with some friends and ordered the Braised Beef Noodle dish. It is a pretty classic rendition of the dish. The hand-pulled noodles are pretty darn good, but it was lukewarm. The beef was good but there was so much fat on it - I know some people love how fatty braised beef can be so this may be a hit with them, but I was not a big fan and I ended up giving up some of my beef to a friend. It was a pretty good portion for the price, but not very filling (even accounting for the beef I gave up). I would recommend getting one of the burgers to complement one of these noodle dishes. The next time I try this place, I will likely try the soup. I think the noodles will taste a lot better hot than the soupless ones I tried this time. When it's cold and rainy, I crave a hot bowl of lamb soup, and along with it all the usual accompaniment in a xian feast. I've been here twice and both times I walked away happily stuffed. My go to dish would be the lamb soup - a big bowl of thick and flavourful broth with generous amount of variants cuts of lamb, and sprinkled with diced parsley and green onions. The cumin stirred lamb noodle is also delicious. I find what's unique about this is a) The cut of lamb used which are smaller ribs half fatty half lean, and b) the type of noodle (you can choose wide or thin) and the springy texture. My least favourite would be the lamb burger because I find it quite dry both the patty itself and the filling. No problem, I can wash it down with a can of xian pop called BingFeng, an orange flavoured soda pop that's popular among local xiannese. See you next time! Cheerio! read more

My friend did take out their Xian cold noodle two days ago and I had been craving for it since then. Having the cold noodle at the restaurant was even better! It's a great compliment of spicy sour and a long lasting garlicky flavour. Craving satisfied. We had it at medium spicy, which is actually not that spicy. I will go for very spicy next time. We also got their Lamb noodle. Lamb was so tender that my kiddo won't stop eating it. Soup was infused with lamb flavour. And they come with a good amount of veggie which makes me feel a little healthier. Their 肉夾饃 bun was yummy too. A little pricy for the size offered. Overall so good! And food came super fast! Every time we drive north from Seattle, this is the place in Richmond we will stop for a quick bite. There are so many good restaurants in Richmond, why do we always pick this one? Because the food is quite authentic, price is decent, it is easy to get a parking spot (parking in Richmond is crazy as you all know), and it won't take 2 hours to get in the line while most restaurants require a reservation. It is not super clean, floor is kinda sticky and slippery, but food is delicious! Our favorite is Xi'an style burger with stew pork, or with the lamb. In the recent visit, we tried Bian bian noodles and fall in love with it. Bian bian noodles are a type of wide noodles, about 3 fingers wide. You could choose any toppings and make them with Bian bian noodles. The portion is not big, but flavor is intense and really really good. I finally get to eat after original setting this place up on Yelp. So after reading the reviews I have a better understanding of what to expect and not to expect. Given that I had an enjoyable meal. Got the Cumin Lamb noodles which you get a choice of handmade noodles for the dish. It was greasy. Probably didn't need to be like that, but it seems this is how they make them at other places. I do wish they'd used larger slices of meat if the noodles are going to be thick. Then they would match. Flavour was good and as expected. The dumplings were my favourite. I'd come back for more of those please. Decently busy for lunch and good turnaround at this hour. Mostly Chinese patrons, but mixed from Cantonese and Mandarin speaking as well as English. Had stewed pork rice. Stewed pork was not simmered properly and it was incredibly stringy and tough to chew. Rice was stale and hard, side veggies were cabbage and carrots boiled in water unsalted. Very disappointing. To go order was spicy cumin lamb noodles and it was not good either. Not enough meat vs. noodle ratio, and noodle was really over cooked. Being the noodle lover I am..I gotta discover a new favourite noodle place while in Van! Thanks to mum this place is definitely gonna be one of my go-to's. I should make a note that they don't use any MSG so none of that super thirsty and gross after taste. My fav is their Tomato (&egg) soup noodles and Rou Jia Mo. Tomato soup tastes super refreshing and it makes you full and satisfied even without putting any meat in it. The soup tastes exactly like the Chinese dish - Panfried Tomato with Egg. A very familiar and heartwarming taste to me cuz it makes me think of home. Rou Jia Mo was a little bit different from other places I tried because they add a bit of sliced Green Peppers inside. I like how the meat isn't super fatty as well. Their buns are super crispy just the way I like it! The lady told me not to get biang biang noodles with the braised beef .. not too sure why ‍ I enjoyed it, as it was very flavorful. But just a tad oily like most braised beef. Especially since there's no soup with it just the sauce so you see all the oil. As for the braised Lamb in soup its very comforting and light. Someone I would opt for if I'm sick wasn't a big fan of the lamb as there wasn't much flavoring. And was a bit gammy. Now onto the biang biang noodles they were pretty good!!
