The fairway is probably 60-70 feet below you and stretches out towards the tree line. The par 3 2nd comes back a little to your left, and then you see the third hole as it wraps around water just below. Absolutely stunning. It's a tough track and I would say is fun from every set of tees (black, blue, white, gold, and even the red tees). Water comes into play on about a dozen holes. Highlights are the first tee box/first hole (it's a reachable par 5), the third as it wraps around a pond, the second half of the par 5 5th hole, the eighth hole looks like it's on top of the world, the views from the 10th tee box, the thirteenth hole (a brute of a par 5), and some of the best par 4s in Virginia (holes 15, 16, and 18). I stayed in the smaller of the two lodges that overlook the 18th green. We had a suite with a master with a king and another room with two double beds. Lots of space, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a porch. It was also the cleanest room I may have ever stayed in. Some of the nicest views were from the porch that included the storm that rolled through at night and the fog that followed in the morning. There is only one restaurant on property and the food was excellent. Love that the dessert menu was never fixed. I had an ice cream cookie sandwich that was excellent. The people here truly make this place special. Whoever cleaned our room deserves a raise. Bo (the head pro) and Sherrie in the pro shop are maybe the nicest people I have met playing golf, and that is saying something. The wait staff and grounds crew were all extremely nice as well. I know there is a 5-star resort down the road that I visited for a bit, but I would much rather be here every day of the week. (Not saying I wouldn't turn down a free stay and play at the other place.) Needless to say this is now on my list for places to have a relaxing weekend getaway filled with great golf.

Bring your Honda side by side and roam freely upon the miles of highly manicured, leafy, floria abundant trails. Enjoy a cool skinny dip in the placid waters of the golf course creek. Bring friends and party the night away with adult beverages unencumbered in several beautifully landscaped and architecturally inspired planned parks and pickle ball. Attended one of the many live "Woodstock" styled free concerts and rub elbows with Joni Mitchel type rock stars. "The song to a Seagull" inspired me and my friend Gary to tears at the concert we attended. Love to rent there but pricey to buy. Unfortunately there is no community pool, nor playground for the kids. Further, the snack shack at the concert venue wasn't opened (built) yet and wanted a stone fired hemp-doe pizza. Incidentally, there was a moonshine still and green leafy plant grow operation which made it more authentic to the original Woodstock festival; in the end we all slept in tents adjacent the woods by the a community trail . Trail Magic was generously given by some fabulous owners whilst included my favorite 12 year old scotch. This is a gated community, so privileged privacy is assured and cameras are on the gates to insure rock star levels of security. and community have well paved roads meandering miles. Take time to drive the miles of paved private roadways through the picturesque and majestic mountains. Overall a great place to party like it's 1999 and play mountain golf.

I've played here a dozen times or so. A relatively short course there are a couple of holes with…read moretight fairways and doglegs. But for the most part an easy course to score on. Beginning on no.1, a short dogleg right over water, you realize driver is your friend here. A solid drive over the trees will get you on or near the green. no.3 is probably the longest hole on the course but reachable in two. Not sure what hole but on the back there is an elevated tee that scares the crap out of me. I don't mind driving straight uphill for 150 feet, its the coming back down that bothers me. But a fun hole. Skyland is located on the NC/VA border just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. I remember once my best friend from college came to visit. It was winter but mild in Winston Salem. We drove the hour or so to Skyland and once we got on the parkway the snow began coming down so fast that the trees were covered before we got to the course. Cheap green fees. Less than 30 bucks on the weekend.

The golf course is the best shape of all the times I have played it. The new Champion Bermuda greens were quick, firm and green, all of what you should expect from well-kept bermuda greens. The rest of the golf course is in perfect shape. The tee boxes were a little high for my liking, but that's not a problem at all. After the round, we had drinks and snackies in one of the private rooms connected to the grill. The food is unbelievable. We had cheeseburger sliders, chicken wings, a delicious cheese plate, and the best chicken empanadas I have ever had. The cocktails were strong and tasty. All in all, it was a great day at Trump. The facility is the best in the area without a doubt. I get to play at a lot of high-end private clubs, and Trump is second to none.

Pilot Knob Park was built in the sixties and has hosted a few stops on some of the mini tours. Originally a private club it has become semi private during the week and is worth the few extra dollars to play. I played here most weekends during college and would put it up against any course within a hundred miles. Pilot is a relatively short course even from the tips. Just a couple of tough holes but shotmaking skills are at a premium. Many of the fairways are bent so a straight drive isnt necessarily a good drive. Conditions are always perfect!!! It can be crowded on the weekends however and during the week you can get behind gangsomes that are too occupied in their side bets to let you play through. There are several ponds on the course that have been stocked for years and if you ask politely you are allowed to cast a line if the course isnt too packed.
