We hired Handyman Suffield, Enfield, and Coventry for a full bathroom remodel through a referral /…read morescreening platform. The experience taught me several important lessons. Although the handyman local company had many positive reviews, none were for a full remodel -- only small repairs or generic statements. The estimate provided was vague and didn't specify plumbing, electrical work, or wall/ceiling prep, which I now realize are essential when converting a shower to a bathtub. I assumed the daily labor rate covered what was needed to complete the job. By day four of a six day estimate, it was clear they weren't equipped for the job. No plumber had been scheduled, forcing me to hire a same day plumber at a very expensive rate. I paid directly for this charge $2800. Basic installation steps were missed until I pointed them out, wall prep was sloppy, and the new floor was cut unevenly with visible gaps. A worker even used my household garbage can as a cutting table. The owner insisted there were numerous changes that delayed the project. The estimate said any changes to scope would follow a formal process that was never invoked once. I thought except for a couple of changes the others were implied under general work statements like "install tub." I stopped the project with handyman and hired licensed professionals, whose workmanship was significantly better. I spent an additional $9,400 to finish and correct the work. We also disagreed with Handyman on the monies owed -- they insisted four days of labor were owed, even though the project was nowhere near 4/6 complete. They side my additional costs were not relevant to what I owed them. Takeaway: Match the scope of your project to the contractor's skill set. A full bathroom remodel requires licensed trades and a detailed estimate. Before starting, use an AI tool describing your project and it lead you through the critical points. Once you select a contractor ask the AI tool how good a fit the selection is.

Just finished a master bathroom with Ace as the GC. The project took 7 months. The contract stated…read more6 months to complete and when. Questioned that it seemed to be an excessive timeframe I was assured that that was simply put in there due to Covid, and in case there was supply issues. The initial demo went well however, from there everything went downhill. The GC did not communicate well, did not have a good timeframe and either outright lied or had 0 control over his subs. I was told in two emails early in the project cabinets were ordered only to find out 3 months into the contract the cabinets were never ordered. He blamed the company the sub everyone except himself who told me they were ordered. A delay of 2 months. He had his choice of tile guys and by his own admission want one in particular cause he was cheaper (for him I didn't see a cost cut) the cheaper tile guy resulted in the tile having to be ripped out and redone another delay. Btw these are all problems I brought to his attention as he decided not to come to the house to check up on his subs or projects. Final payment is made but he didn't even have the courtesy to do a final walk through. His worker Sean is his only saving grace who worked with us to clean up the problems created by the GC. We have many more projects on the books but would never consider this company again Lastly one of the add on we wanted to do included work in our master. The quote seemed high and when I asked for a break down (paint, supplies, labor) I never got it. I ended up subbing it myself and did it for thousands cheaper and more timely When I explained the cost difference he simply stated well our costs are our costs. I believe once we signed the contract he was done with us. Please note I don't agree with the other review on this page as his driving or personality should not be a factor in a review.

We moved to Connecticut in 1987 and bought a house that was built in 1972…read more The house had many features that may have been in style for the time, but to our eyes had become dated- like dark paneling, sand swirl ceilings, and tons of wallpaper. The downstairs bathroom was the worst offender -it had a gaudy wallpaper with big block letters that spelled out words like "Groovy" and "Love". Definitely a Peter Max-like look that would have been right at home in 1972. My wife and I covered up that atrocious wallpaper with new wallpaper soon after we moved in, but since neither of us really knew what we were doing, the "new" wallpaper looked mighty sad. This year, we are righting some of the ill effects of Father Time and doing some renovations, one room at a time. We started with that godawful downstairs bathroom. We were familiar with the Tetraults through a work connection, and when we saw some examples of his craftsmanship, well we reached out for his opinion and an estimate to bring that cursed bathroom into the 21st century. Chris did a magnificent job for us. He removed both layers of wallpaper, repaired some crummy drywall, replaced some old fashioned and dated door and window trim, Installed vinyl plank flooring, drywalled the ceiling, installed some gorgeous beadboard on the walls, and added nice accents of colonial trim crown, base, and corner  moldings, fixed a tight, sticking door, replaced the hinges and door handle as well as the old window lock, gave everything a fresh paint job and hung a new towel ring and toilet paper holder! The room is magnificent, and I love the little things he did, like swapping out the door hardware that was old and dated for spiffy new brushed nickel pieces. Chris was dependable, super polite and efficient, was a terrific communicator, and really made the entire project a pleasure. We have two more bathrooms, the front entry, and a laundry room in the queue for more work with him. He is in the process of adding a website, but has a Facebook page with lots of examples of his work. https://www.facebook.com/Tetreault-Quality-Home-Improvements-102374365150237 We could not be happier with his excellent work.
