Hands down my favorite restaurant in Stamford and I almost never feel that way about a New American restaurant. Definitely make a reservation, they are always busy and for good reason. From Korean BBQ short ribs to a tomato, cucumber, & burrata salad to chicken scarp and seared scallops - they are doing global fusion food WELL. Masterful even. Never have had a bad dish here and the food photos I included/presentation speak for itself. The visuals match the taste here. Cocktails are also strong and delicious. Servers are attentive and friendly. I did have one negative experience here but it's more representative of the community, not the restaurant. The experience here is so great they're bound to have regulars and that is who I had my bad encounter with. I was celebrating my birthday with a group of friends who had traveled from out-of-state to visit. We were laughing a lot as we were catching up when someone who claimed to be a regular at the restaurant approached our table to ask us if we could quiet down and basically said we were being too disruptive and that even the staff/manager agreed. One of my friends was mortified and we apologized to them but also explained the special occasion; the group seemed a bit more understanding after that. When our server came to check on us next, we apologized to him too - and he looked at us confusedly. He and the staff had no issues with our party. They had no idea that someone came to even talk to us! It was just the complaint of one entitled group of regulars who thought they had the right to speak for the establishment. We would've got dessert and at least another round of drinks after our meal before leaving but because of this group, we left abruptly and the restaurant themselves apologized profusely to us for that having happened. This experience as a whole made me like Olio even more though because they didn't just take the side of their regulars over our business, which I respected them for. I'm going with 5 stars strictly on a basis of food quality and ignoring a number of annoying mishaps. We had reservation for 7 pm on Friday. Once we were seated, we learned that there is only one portion of duck left (two people in our group wanted it) and they are out of short rib. Then there were many issues with wine. I ordered Malbec from a specific producer and we were offered Malbec from a different producer (No, thank you). The Rioja we got was from a different vintage then on the list (this is common, I know), and nobody warned us (group of 6 people) that this was their only bottle... Anyway, the food was outstanding. Fresh bread with white bean sauce was flying off the table. Miso Soy Grilled Octopus was sublime - texture, seasoning, sauce. Fried burrata was excellent. I had seared scallops as my main course, and the whole dish was outstanding (my only gripe would be that $40 for 4 scallops is a bit (very) steep). Gnocchi were light and fluffy, something you can rarely find. Everyone was really happy with their food choices. And Bread Pudding for dessert was just perfect - creative, light and tasty. I have been meaning to go back to Olio since a brunch party I attended many years ago, and finally I made it! This quaint restaurant is inviting, and the space seems clearly steeped in some local history, at least the building. The service did a nice job, continually cleaning plates and making sure everything went well. It wasn't too loud considering it's a small space, and the waiter was friendly and did a good job helping get us out of there as we had a show to catch. Now on to the food. Let me preface this by saying that I cook my own Italian food, so my standard is always high. We started with drinks, and I enjoyed the Basil Martini, though as suggested by the waiter, it wasn't very sweet. It had the feel of a pizza in a glass, which might be more bad than good. We then shared the pork bell appetizer, which were three small 2-3 inch cuts of pork belly, deep fried. On top were an assortment of pickled things including cabbage, cucumbers, and more. Each bite of this was two forkfulls of fatty, juicy, and perfectly fried porkbelly. They were my star. For my main dish, I had the chicken parmigiana with cavatelli in sauce. Now, I will say that cavatelli isn't my favorite type of pasta, but made in-house always enhances things. In this case, I let me brother finish off my pasta. The chicken parm was cooked well, had great flavor, and was overall good. A nice crispy cutlet, with just the right amount of 'stuff' on top. This isn't a 5 star because I don't think anything caught my attention to go back immediately for another go at it. But, I will go back, and I will try some other things and update to a five star after another visit where I believe there is the possibility to be more impressed by their food. We ordered the : Pancakes - 10/10 Chicken with waffles - 10/10 We also got a side of the potatoes - 10/10. Overall we had such a fun experience. Our kid also loved it and ate everything. Very good hidden gem in Stamford. Do NOT sleep on the bacon Bloody Mary. It was truly the best bacon I've ever had! Liked the French toast but would want more than 5 banana slices on top. I can here for brunch with my mom and we very much enjoyed it. It was a last minute thing we decided to do. Luckily they were able to take us. I think they usually prefer reservations. But I called before hand and they were able to take us. The service was great and the food delicious. The place is a decent size it has a front area and back area. We went to celebrate a friends engagement party. The appetizers were amazing.. The waiter suggested we look at the specials so my friend and I decided to order the filet surf and turf (3. Shrimp) from the specials menu. Ordered medium/medium rare;'both were well done, the outer part tasted burned and was so hard to cut as if it had been sitting on the indirect part of the grill the entire night. When the waiter asked how the dish was... I told him.. he didn't comp my entree even though I didn't eat any of the filet. Instead, after we had ordered two glasses of wine, he told us he would comp us that instead.. I don't think that was the right thing to do for a customer spending over $200... I went here last weekend with my boyfriend for date night. Haven't been in years but this used to be one of my favorite holes in the wall in Stamford. The ambience was beautiful and the wait staff was lovely. This time I had a completely different experience. We both ordered the chicken parm and it was incredibly soggy and mushy. I don't ever complain but it was difficult to eat. The waiter also told us that they ran out of Cavatelli but was going to give us gnocchi instead which was very popular! I was very excited for the gnocchi and when he came out with our dishes, he mentioned that they ended up having extra Cavatelli (which the dish originally came with) but was excited for the gnocchi that he promised us. I kindly asked him if I could get the gnocchi instead and he just shook his head and walked away. No concern at all. When he came over and asked out our food was, I was honest and kindly told him the chicken was soggy (I took 2 bites and didn't touch the rest) and he started to become rude and grab the menu from me explaining this is how it came. Then asked my boyfriend if it was soggy as if he didn't believe me. My boyfriend said, yes, it's very soggy, and it's not easy to eat. He took the chicken off our bill which I appreciated and I ordered the pasta zoodles primavera. This dish was also incredibly soggy and hard to eat. I didn't want to complain anymore so we just took it to go and paid the bill. Overall, not what it used to be. read more

Chose this place for our girls' holiday dinner this year solely based on yelp reviews. Food- it was delicious albeit on the pricey side. The appetizers are not really not for sharing since the serving was really small. You really need to order a few of them if you have a group of people. We tried the buttermilk fried chicken (which is one drumstick for $10), Caesar salad and the steak fries. The entrees were a little more generous. I ordered the stuffed shrimp with risotto and it was seasoned perfectly. My friends loved what they ordered as well- As for their desserts, we tried the homemade doughnuts and flourless cake. Both were excellent! Service- it was on the slow side but we didn't mind since we were all catching up and having a great time. A group of 6 of us went last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. 5 of us arrived within a few minutes of each other. The 6th was going to be another 15-20 minutes, so we put in drink and appetizer orders. From the beginning our waitress was not too subtly trying to rush us - "I'm not trying to rush you, but..." was mentioned several times. In her defense, I'm sure this was coming from management. More tables = more $. However, if not managed properly, it can come at an expense. The food itself was pretty good. But WAY overpriced. $10 beers (cans!), $30+ entrees. This is Springdale, not Manhattan. Once the last person in our party arrived we were just finishing appetizers and immediately put in our main orders. At this time, we had probably been there for 30-40 minutes. The entrees took a good 20-25 minutes to arrive, which was understandable considering how busy (and loud!) the place was. We finished entrees and then ordered desserts, more drinks. We had just paid the bill (over $400 for the 6 of us) and were finishing coffee when the manager/owner came over and asked if we wouldn't mind leaving as there was another party waiting for a table who had reservations. My friend politely told the manager that we also had reservations, were celebrating her husband's 40th birthday, and had just spent over $400 at his restaurant, and were about to leave anyway. She told him she thought it rude of him to ask us to leave and would say so to others, to which he basically replied, "go ahead and write as many bad reviews as you want". Great customer service. We waited outside the restaurant as another in our party used the bathroom. During that time, the manager came outside not once, but twice to tell us that we were not welcome back at his restaurant and generally berated us. Having worked for a time in the restaurant industry myself back in the day, I know that it is sometimes necessary to gently and politely move tables along (though this should be avoided if at all possible). However, in the event that needs to be done, it is basic decency to offer the customer some sort of "peace offering" - comped drinks, dessert, or a portion off the total bill. This way, you ensure repeat customers and good reviews overall. Needless to say, we would not return to this restaurant even if we had not been asked by this overly rude manager. Save your money, hearing and aggravation. There are so many better choices in Stamford! read more

We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the chefs and bartenders do their thing. The food is here delicious, the drinks were great, and the service was great. This restaurant came highly recommend by friends and I am so glad I came. Our waitress Cat suggested two appetizers for our table of 5 that were not only delicious but very reasonable. She very well could have recommended a more expensive appetizers but instead picked her favorite raw veggie salad which was AMAZING! Every one of our meals were extremely flavorful and presentable. The owner came over after our meal and was super nice and approachable. Service was attentive and very friendly. Parking was easy. Didn't wait long at all for our meal.
