The staff is so incredible at this school! We are so grateful that my son has been able to go there.

What a super good school. My daughter loves it there . Would not want to be anywhere else.

I attended the summer program and got expelled the beginning of senior year (deservedly so) yes some of these reviews point to drug use and violence but at the end of the day the staff really tried their best to keep us productive and happy. I can say from my point of view we as students usually come having our own problems and can for sure be a handful even though I got expelled I hold no grudge against the staff here they gave me many chances and worked with me the best they could. 5/5 for staff 2/5 for location (everything is hours away) overall a solid program -Anthony g read more

Oliverian exceeded my expectations. Wonderful teachers and staff find the best in each child and build from there.

I taught a week-long improv class at Oliverian during electives week last fall and the thing that struck me was how great the students are and how much the administration and teachers care. I've seen so many students come from a traditional school where they were struggling and then, over time, start thriving at Oliverian. It can't possibly have a 100% success rate because so much depends on fit and where the student is in their life, but Oliverian has a surprisingly high success rate. It's not an overnight transformation for students. It's a journey. I just can't imagine there's an alternative prep school in America that tries harder for its students, cares more or has greater success than the people at Oliverian. read more

The Oliverian School has provided me with the support and the environment that I believe is key to transitioning towards higher education. Through living away from home, I have gained a sense of independence that makes me much more confident. The close-knit group has given me a stronger sense of purpose. Oliverian is a place for students that are looking for a change of pace, an adventure, and an opportunity to heal and grow. Before Oliverian, I was not happy with my high school experience. Now, I am cherishing each moment that I have left! read more

Oliverian is a wonderful, small, quirky, loving, and powerful school. When I first arrived at Oliverian in 2006, I was completely taken with the beautiful, pastoral place and its brilliant and compassionate people. Fifteen years in, and I remain so. We occupy an unusual, perhaps unique, niche between traditional and therapeutic schools, providing many of the benefits of each. Students receive counseling, academic support, and guidance with life and social skills, while also having genuine free time and the ability to exercise autonomy in their own lives. Our students are brave, passionate, resilient, spirited. Sometimes they need our help to access these qualities in themselves. We nestle our students into our tight-knit community of caring adults, and we love them for who they are, while challenging them to grow. I hope you will come meet us to learn more. Best, Abby

I attended Oliverian in the 2017/2018 school year. The last time I wrote a review, the staff contacted me numerous times to delete it. It appears that they don't care to have honest reviews. Please do not send your child here. This is not a safe place. It is part of the Troubled Teen Industry (TTI) (please do some research into this). The school calls it self "alternative" and not therapeutic to try to stray away from looking like a classic TTI place. Many staff there have worked at other TTI programs and the school itself has ties to other TTI programs. For example, Will Laughlin, the head and CEO of Oliverian was the executive director at Auldern Academy, Siler City, NC (it has since been shut down) and the executive director of education at CEDU Schools, Idaho and California. If you do not want to believe survivors based off of their testimonials, some red flags about Oliverian to note are as follows: lack of appropriate biographical information/vague biographical information on key staff members (where are the names of all staff members' significant previous employers?), no credentialed special education teachers, and connections to other questionable programs/facilities. To the staff members working there that actually have a desire to help children: working at an institution such as Oliverian or any other TTI is not the right way to do it. To the parents who have children at Oliverian, please believe your child. The staff lied to my parents numerous times when I tried to tell them what was happening there when I attended (i.e., instances of sexual assault, rampant drug use, faking of drug tests, lack of quality education, lack of physical safety, lack of quality counselors). To the parents who don't know what to do with their "troubled teen", there are many resources to help your child that are backed by research (and don't cost tens of thousands of dollars), rather than sending them to incompetent TTI programs. read more

The Oliverian School was a part of my life for two years straight (including summer school) and I know it will always be a part of my life. It helped me become the person I've always wanted to be. Since graduating I am confident, motivated, and sure of what I want; pretty much the complete opposite of who I was upon arrival. I know that for the rest of my life I have the staff and students of Oliverian to call whenever I'd like, for help or to simply catch up. They all saw me go through my transformation and therefore I feel they know me better than anyone else. The school and community inspired me, yes, but so did the location. Rural New Hampshire taught me to appreciate nature and serenity and really has made me distant from electronic entertainment (although, yes, I'm on the internet right now). But I have not been on Facebook since leaving, and I don't want to be. I would much rather read a book and call up my Oliverian english teacher, Kara, to discuss it. I can't say enough positive comments regarding Oliverian. It is the foundation from which I am now building my whole life. Without it, I would be lost. Thank you, Oliverian! read more

I have been a student at the Oliverian School, and now that I am no longer, I wish I still was. From the time I started there as a freshman at a very young age Oliverian has been my home away from home. Oliverian is hard to describe in words, as there no way to share the wonderous experience and do it it any justice. Here is my attempt to do so. Oliverian is a place were one feels at home, it is a haven from discrimination, and will provide you with the help you require to learn about yourself and to be comfortable with what you find. Not only that but it is a place with a dream as unique as it students, to truly understand and learn from one another not only from the staff. In addition to that there is no place on earth that one can find staff who care more. This is a place that shall be in my memories fondly forever and has provided for me and helped me achieve. MB read more

This is a fantastic school for the right student, and I greatly benefitted from my time here. More than grateful to the kind and caring the staff who clearly put their everything all into helping each and every student who walks through their doors. Wouldn't be where I am today without Oli :) read more

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. This school is abusive, manipulative, and drugs run rampant on campus. Students are kept under a watchful eye and almost never allowed to leave campus. This IS a therapeutic boarding school, even if it claims not to be one. read more
