The Cathedral of St Joseph the Workman is one of the most beautiful Catholic churches around. It's…read moresteeple has to be one of the highest (man made) points for miles and miles. If you can, enjoy the high Mass at 10am Sunday, you will hear the most beautiful choir, and music from a very impressive organ played by a masterful doctor of music. The current Rector gives homilies that are full of energy and will touch your soul and make you think about how you're taking Jesus back out into the world to make more disciples. They have hospitality with coffee and doughnuts on most Sundays after Mass too. If you can't come for Mass. They have both guided and self guided tours available to learn more about the architecture inside and out. This church is filled with wonderful symbols of faith and beautiful symbols representing St. Joseph.

Like any house of worship, with pluses and minuses, St. Joseph has a look of equal parts formality…read moreand intimidation, almost to the point of stuffiness; enough so as to make you hesitate; but don't. Work up the nerve to walk inside. Once there, the stuffiness vanishes. There's something about a cathedral, with its high ceilings, stained glass windows, stone & plaster walls that can make the music from a choir and a pipe organ flow first through the church and then through your psyche. If you forget why you're there, caught up in the music and all, there's always a beautiful glass window or a decoration on the wall, or the murmur of the prayer to bring you back to that consciousness where you somewhere, somehow, feel the connection to something better, and in the community as they celebrate around you. If you can't go for the feeling of community, then go for the enjoyment of the stained glass, go for the appreciation of the architecture, go for the calming influence, go for the awesome music from the organ or the choir.

Now that they're gone, I continue to worship, serve, and grow here because of how seriously the pastor and the congregation see they are God's hands - serving his people, especially the "outsiders" as Jesus showed us - feeding them, clothing them, accepting and loving them.

A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, we have chosen to be a "Reconciling in Christ" congregation, currently the only such parish in our synod. Our congregation has a special focus to reach out to the community around us. We host the largest single meal service in La Crosse County, our Come For Supper held every Tuesday from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. We also host the Women's Clothes Closet, the only free service of its kind in the La Crosse area. Dedicated volunteers are always welcome. Each Sunday we have an active coffee fellowship during the Sunday School time, and after a few minutes of coffee, adults are invited to either stay for fellowship or join Pastor Mark for a time of adult education. Come join us in praise, prayer and the work of our Lord!
