Heading out in Porto Alegre to the cidade baixta wanted to find a place where we could grab some food and also have a drink. Marked a few places that we found on trip advisor but I was intrigued by what constitutes a brazilian gastro pub so we headed to olivos to check it out.
Happy to say I was not disappointed. When you first wall in the space appears tiny but it has a few little areas shooting off the entry space including some long tables which cater for groups. The spaces are warm and cosy which makes it easy to chat to people at nearby tables.
The drinks menu was impressive including an extensive list of beers and wines both locally and imported as well as cocktails. We shared a bottle of red from a local wine area and our other companion had a vanilla mojito.
The food was equally tasty and reasonable portions. We tried the olives which where filled with bacon and meat and deep fried and a pizza. The pizza menu was jot extensive but we tried the legumes (vegetables) which was topped with generous servings of a ratatouille vegetable mix; eggplant, zucchini, capsicum, onion and the carbonara which had bacon and quality egg. Both came with generous servings of mozarella and home made tomatoe sauce. The base was thin but a little doughy and cooked well. I would gladly eat the pizza again.
The only downside was having to eat at the bar which normally wouldn't bother me but it was small and barely fit our plates.
Service was very friendly and they helped us with suggestions of where to go afterwards. read more
