But given that we were there close to closing time and we had to get back to our Airbnb, we chose to take the food to go. I tried the fish and chips and clam chowder, and we both had the chocolate cake, all of which were phenomenal. The clam chowder was warm and comforting, even though I had it after getting back to the Airbnb, and the fish and chips were perfectly fried and crispy without being too crispy. But the stand-out item was definitely the chocolate cake, which neither of us were expecting. We were expecting a dry, half-decent cake, but the cake we got was perfectly moist and rich without being overpoweringly rich and heavy. We timed it perfectly on a holiday weekend and when we arrived, only one other couple was there. Although the inside is lively, we opted to sit at a picnic table on the patio and people watch. The only challenge is listening to the squawk box from DQ in front of the restaurant. The servers were very helpful and the menu had several good choices. I opted for fish and chips (substituting onion rings), and the Hubbs got the bbq rib special. They offered flavored lemonade which was refreshing. The Hubbs declared it the best clam chowder he has had on this coastal trip. The place was full by the time we left. We are adding this to our list of favorites in the area. read more

Our stop to Olmedo's was a happy accident. After discovering that the restaurant we originally intended to visit was closed, we decided to give this establishment a shot. Suffice to say, the food exceeded our expectations. The chowder was INCREDIBLE and fish and chips were tender and fresh. Since the service was so excellent and environment was family friendly, my only complaint was that the salmon was a bit dry (but that could be due to the fact that we chose scrambled eggs instead of overeasy). I've lived in the area for five months and just discovered Olmedos. I tried the chicken fried steak breakfast and everything was excellent! The breaded steak patty was crisp and didn't taste like it was dumped out of a box. The sausage gravy was flavorful and the scrambled eggs were not over cooked but soft and buttery. The fish and chips was seriously disappointing and cost the rating an entire star itself. $18 for frozen, school lunch, breaded fish fillets? In a harbor town?! Just don't offer the fish on the menu, guys. As for everything else - burgers, French dip, patty melt - it was all totally serviceable. Cooked well but just your run of the mill, food service frozen stuff. The one thing that brought up the rating was the chowder, which was obviously homemade and excellent... some of the best we've had on the coast in years. They obviously know how to cook!
