    Floating tank
    Jackie B.

I thought it'd be appropriate to review my first sensory deprivation experience for my first review of 2017! Spoiler alert: it was blissful. The facility is clean and welcoming. Smells a tiny bit swimming pool-y which I expected. And I appreciated the hair/make-up room to blow dry my hair and get done-up after floating. The owners are really nice; Brooks did an awesome job quickly explaining how we can acclimate to the tank and have an effective floating experience. The water in the tank is shallow, full of epsom salts, and warmed to normal skin temperature (I think he said around 95 degrees). And yes, it is pitch black once you close the tank door. Although you don't have to, I opted to use the provided ear plugs. It definitely made the sensory deprivation experience even more... depriving lol. I could barely hear myself splashing in the water or even breathing. When I first closed the tank door and laid back, I panicked. I felt like I was slowly spinning in the tank and got worried I wouldn't be able to find the door. I'm only 5'3 and still too tall to do a full spin - so don't worry - the tank door will always be in front of you (or behind, depending on how you go in). Initially, I couldn't get comfortable either. I felt like my head was so heavy and wouldn't float. I put my arms above my head and my hands under my neck/head for support and gradually let my hands float to the side and I was fine. I found that putting my arms up rather than at my sides was much more relaxing. The floating experience was sooo unreal. I knew I was awake at most periods during the 90 minutes (I'd purposely move my feet or push my arm against the tank to make sure) but it truly felt like I was sleeping!! Just floating and not having any pressure on my body made me feel as if I didn't even have a body. I still had thoughts going through my head but I was in total blissful relaxation. After the 90 minutes, my body felt like I had just gotten a therapeutic massage and my mind was so clear. It was amazing. An ambient light and chiming music lets you know that the 90 minutes is over. Purchasing and booking the float online was a breeze. I can see myself replacing a yearly massage with a float instead. So glad I tried this!

A nice place to relax before your float.

When it first opened, everything was great: clean, shiny, well functioning showers and pods. My one minor complaint is the water temperature of the pod. Granted, I run a little colder than most being anemic, but the temperature is lukewarm at best. I know it's not meant to be a sauna, but I would really prefer a warmer temperature. You do get used to it, but particularly in the winter months, I want my water heated past indoor pool temperature. 84-88 is the temperature best suited for aquatic therapy and this seems more like it's in the high 70s. Thankfully, my showers have always worked though the last time I was present, a customer was reaming out the employee as her water pressure was super low and the water was ice cold. Personally, I'd have left the room during the pod to be moved to a different room rather than enduring but that's just me. Nevertheless, the employee still handled things with grace and professionalism. My pod experience this last go round was different than that first year. I can tell that the pods have seen a lot of use; it shows. The interior handle used to open and close was missing. This made it more cumbersome to slide my doors close (or open them at the end). The finish is peeling and all in all, it looks like some maintenance is overdue. The lounge area could stand to have an additional oxygen bar since there are only two tanks and matching cords. I've noticed when people come out, they sit in those pods but don't always get the oxygen. Maybe directing these people to the back orientation room would be better and allow the lounge area the ability to provide oxygen to more folks? All in all, it's an okay experience. I do feel a bit more rested coming out but I usually always follow this up with a nice soak in my tub afterward.

I noted in other reviews that it's mandatory to arrive 30 minutes early for first float orientation. This fact wasn't emphasized when I called to make my appointment so I can see why there might be some confusion. Perhaps setting first appointments for 1.5 hours might make this more clear. Upon entering I was greeted by a friendly staff person who requested I put on plastic slippers and leave my shoes begin. This was a nice touch. Later I noted the slippers are soaked in a cleaning solution. I appreciate this as the slippers can then be reused. Next the staff person gave me a quick tour and showed me to the video room. The video was one part advertisement, one part orientation and one part sales pitch to buy a franchise. This last bit seemed a little much given I hadn't tried the float yet but i understand this is business. I returned to the lounge to wait my turn. A previous floater had just come out and the staff asked how things had gone. Apparently the shower didn't function well but the float was good. My turn came up and I was escorted back. I noted there were multiple float pod rooms. I was given a quick orientation to the room. The staff person opened the pod and said "This is where the magic happens!" All I can say here is there must be a generational difference in this phrases meaning. The staff person left and I turned on the shower. Ice cold water streamed out. I fiddled with the tap trying to get some warmth. Eventually managed some lukewarm water after a great amount of time. Then I couldn't shut the tap off!! My float time was beginning as I heard the narrator began her instructions. Finally got the shower down to a trickle and stepped in. The water here was warm clean and comfortable. It took my shower jangled nerves a while to calm down but when I did I had an excellent float experience. The end of the float was signaled by a loud door chime tone. The shower situation was no better. This time it was scalding hot water. Really took me right out of relaxation mode pretty quickly. I left the room for some oxygen bar time. The staff person set me up quickly and asked how the soak was. I noted all the shower issues. She acknowledged them and said she could add a note to my file so I would be in a different room Next time. This part mystified me. Why not give new customers the best experience this time? Additionally she noted that the prior customer had said the same thing about the shower. Apparently we had both been in the same room. There were other rooms so I don't understand why subject customers to a non working shower. Overall the float was great, staff was kind, the place was clean, but I wouldn't return based on the shower issues.

I've been going to the spa and fitness club for several years…read more This weekend, Worldgate Spa's contract masseuse, Omar, was STELLAR. One of the best massages I've ever had - on several continents. I tried to book another appointment with him, but he is only a consultant and doesn't know when he will be back. WHY??? He has expressed an interest in working at the spa full time and they should hire him. On another note - why is the spa's turnover so high? That just means mismanagement to me. Look into it! Customers - like me - become loyal. Without the same masseuse, I look elsewhere. Hondo was another great masseuse that they lost. (Hondo, if you read this - please come find me!) The massage and facial options are very good. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing with soft music playing in the background. They have a nice relaxation room where they serve tea and cold water. They've also got nice, clean, plush robes and lockers; things that you would find at better-known luxury spas. I bring my champagne and make a day of it. Underground parking is also convenient and you can take the elevators up (when they're working, which is rarely) to the spa level. The cleanliness of the spa is excellent! The ladies really keep on top of it. The minute you put something down, it is swept away. They are also courteous and friendly on every visit. The spa products are ridiculously expensive for their audience. They're not selling and there's a reason for that. In contrast to the actual spa, the female-only area in the fitness center (whirlpool/sauna/steam room where you can access from the spa) is DISGUSTING. Dirty panties on the floor, hair balls in EVERY shower. Women in their underwear (not swimwear) in the whirlpool. Women on their cell phones WITH cameras IN the whirlpool. They have posted a multitude of signs, but haven't hired female monitors to check the area periodically. I cancelled my membership with the fitness club because of this. GET FEMALE MONITORS! I am very very tempted to contact the health department. They've got a great facility - clean it up! But the actual spa - five star! Luxury service for good prices. Highly recommend.

We showed up early as instructed, only to find the door locked. Lights off. No staff. Nothing. Their sign said Sunday "By Appointment Only," yet apparently even when you have an appointment, no one shows up. I called their Bethesda location, and the first receptionist claimed we weren't in the system--even though I booked on Wednesday at 2:22 PM (I checked my call log and took a screenshot). Someone took all of my details including my credit card, but somehow my appointment "didn't exist." Then the owner got on the phone and said she actually could see me in their system but didn't know what happened. She blamed a software switch on Tuesday... but I booked on Wednesday. So that excuse made no sense. Her only solution was to ask if we could come tomorrow. No, we actually can't--because unlike her business, we plan ahead. I took the weekend off from my real estate schedule to celebrate. We booked a hotel in Tysons, hired a dog sitter, and made a whole day of this. And it was completely wasted. What really stunned me was the total lack of care. No apology that felt meaningful. No attempt to make it right. No offer of a complimentary service. Nothing. I'm a business owner myself, and I would never handle a mistake like this this way. Our anniversary plans were basically ruined because this spa didn't bother to honor our confirmed appointment--or provide any real remedy afterward. Don't waste your time or money here. If they can't handle a simple booking, I wouldn't trust them with anything else either.
