Since there is a natural geothermal hot stream running in places below the sand, you can create your own mini hot tub in the sand. Now the water will only be a few inches deep and you have to use care in selecting a spot and it may take a bit of trial and error to find a spot that's hot but not too hot, it's a crazy experience to try in NZ. Note: you can only do this +|- 2 hours on either side of low tide. At other times the ocean covers the hot sand/water. Totally campy and cool.

If you start digging even a little and don't feel warm to hot water, move over a bit and dig in another spot.
