I was coming from the U.S. to do a 190 mile challenge ride. Deciding not to bring my own bike, I hired one from On Your Bike London Bridge location. The entire team, (but especially Dave) were brilliant. I didn't know what to expect and there was a lot of planning going in. The On Your Bike team was with me every step of the way. Once I got there, they got the bike set up quickly, provided useful info (the brakes are opposite of what they are in U.S. - good to know!). The bike itself was excellent and exactly what I needed for the ride. They even picked up the bike at the end for a small fee. They made what could have been a complex situation super easy. I like this bike shop. It's on cavernous premises. Something of a bike supermarket so it's possible to wander the aisles in awe of all this bike stuff. Stuff you never knew you needed. Or even existed. It's a bit like that. They have so much kit, a pretty exhaustive range of stock. Drinks bottles (a range). Biking clothing. Helmets. New slinky wheels. New tyres. A unicycle. And lots and lots of bikes. I found the staff really friendly. Very knowledgeable, which you'd expect, all clearly enthusiasts themselves, which is nice. On your Bike in London Bridge is a very large store which stocks all kinds of bikes and bicycle equipment. However, the customer service isn't too great and once you put a deposit down on a bike, actually getting it becomes somewhat of an annoying experience as there always seems to be a delay. The staff are very knowledgeable about bikes but their manner is quite off-putting. I also found the store after looking in other bicycle shops to be rather on the expensive side. I was a first time cyclist in London and I definitely felt that the staff took advantage of that and attempted to sell me a more expensive model than what I actually needed. Luckily I did my own research and purchased a cheaper version. The bike itself is great however, and I haven't experienced any problems so far. read more

My experience renting a bike here for a few days was that their attitude was a bit in the "we're doing a you a huge favor and it's annoying" ballpark. When I arrived first I just stood by the counter with no one even saying "just give us a minute". Then a guy told me to go to the next room and ask for "Tom" (name changed). Tom was talking to a colleague with no customers around. I asked him if he could help me rent a bike. He said he was busy. I mentioned that the guy at the counter had said that he might be able to help me. He got in a huffy mood and came out and went to the counter and asked what was going on. The guy told him that I wanted to rent a bike, and could he take care of it. He said he was busy. The guy said what about "Brad" (the other guy in the second room). He said that Brad was busy too. The guy behind the counter seemed a bit annoyed and asked him just to do it. Tom got huffy but finally agreed. Then as he took my info he mentioned how this would all be a lot easier if I had booked the bike online. I thanked him for the tip. Just bad customer service. The bike was good - and a decent price. I visit On Your Bike all the time to buy bits and bobs. I also bring my bike in for servicing, which is always completed competently. But what I like most about On Your Bike is that the sales people are genuinely helpful. Over the last year, I've had someone remove my pedals, adjust my handlebar height, replace my stem, check my saddle height for me, take my bike on a test run to find out where that incessant clicking sound was coming from, tighten my pedals, and pump my tires (among other things). And they've always done these things for me for free, with a smile. read more

On Your Bike is a huge, well-stocked bike shop that sells a decent variety of models, from old-style roadsters to mountain and road bikes. I've found the sales staff friendly and relatively helpful when I've needed to buy the odd tool or spare part, but the real reason I'm such a fan of this place is the excellent and reliable workshop they have. When you drop your bike off for a service at this place in the morning you know you'll have it back later that day - invaluable if you commute by bike as I do. They'll ring you to let you know when it's done, or if they think you need a new part. Their prices seem reasonable too: it's possible that cheaper prices can be had elsewhere, but given their reliability, both in the speed with which they carry out repairs and the quality of their work, and their convenient central location, it'd take a lot for me to go elsewhere. More than the actual shop itself I really like its location. It used to be a tunnel back in the 1800's and if you pay close attention you can really see what it used to be and the history behind the arched roof. If you are a bike worm you will feel at home here, they have all the quality bikes such as Cannondale, Lemond, Marin, Gary Fisher, Dawes, Whyte and Brompton. Accessories and clothing range (Nike, Cannondale, Endura, Altura, DeMarchi, Gore and Hind), I recommend their workshop if you have problem with your bike, anything from a puncture to headshok service. However, all these products and services come at a price. One that can be easily avoided by doing a bit more research on what you want and maybe visiting Elephant and Castle instead. The staff as you would expect are knowledgeable but I was served by a rather snappish lad, maybe he was preoccupied with other stuff but he answered my questions in a bit of a unfriendly tone and he just seemed bored. Overall, real good shop to browse but I don't think I would spend my hard earned cash in here. read more

I asked about which bike lock would be best recommend and was told to 'buy the most expensive one'. No going through options or anything. Another customer then was served while I was mid sentence and I had to wait again to be served. Very frustrating and dismissive service. A bike emporium! Into your bike porn? This is the place to go. A huge store that is bound to have everything you could ever need or want for your bike. Out front are all the bits and bobs- locks, pumps, lights, clothing (flourescent eat your heart out)- work your way to the back and it's a temple of bikes. Delicious. They have a workshop out the back where they will fix your bike or build your bike but tend to be really busy so often have a waiting list. If you are after bike hire then this is the place too- you can hire a bike for a day, a week or a month- easy as. And if you want somewhere safe as houses to park your bike where it will be under a watchful eye- and won't get rained on then this is your place too. I'm a frequent cyclist but know nothing about bikes, and whenever something goes wrong on my bike, this is where I go. They have always been polite and helpful, whether just repairing punctures or carrying out a full service. I've always been able to get seen nice and quickly too. Probably not the cheapest place, but they do a really good job. And the shop is brilliant - very well stocked with good ranges of cycling gear. It's pretty much impossible to go in and leave again empty handed. Again, it's all expensive equipment and certainly caters for the lycra-clad as opposed to the chic cyclist, but I'd still challenge anyone to go in and not find something they need. This is a large, independent bike shop, catering for beginners to pros. I've only had reason to shop here once, and am definitely going to be going back. Service was great, and they were able to build me a wheel from scratch in a day, made exactly to spec. I think prices are pretty normal, although I doubt this is a place to find 'deals'. All in all, I reckon this is a good place to go if you need some expertise. read more

The service is recommended for any who wish to save time in traffic in congested London and also allows a better way to see the sites with less cost involved with Parking. Traveling from across the pond to do a bike ride from London to Paris, I arrived with my bike dis-assembled in a box. I called several local bike shops in the Southwark area ahead of time looking for someone to assemble the bike together. Only these folks replied. This is the sort of bike shop I usually try to stay clear of. It's big and shiny and there's lot of stuff on display but staff generally don't have much of a clue and are only really interested in selling you overpriced items. Bikes are probably round the same as anywhere else but accessories are ridiculously expensive, so much cheaper on the web. Despite of that I used to buy from them from time to time as they're really close to my office but I've stopped completely after my last experience. My chain had broken close to On your Bike, so I thought I'd just go in there, certainly they can put a new one on my bike on the go...silly me. They asked me to book the bike in for two days later (and of course I could not leave it there until then) and would charge me £15 for putting the chain on (literally a 2 min job, plus the cost of the chain of course.) My local bike job would no doubt have done that on the spot and certainly not charged for installation. Plus I'd have had a nice chat with them in the meantime...What I did was take my bike with me, order the chain online and put it on myself...I've never been back since... read more

I rented a road bike for a three day weekend and had a great experience. The online booking is easy, I called ahead to check the bike was ready and available in my size. Check in at the store was easy and quick, and the bike was ready to go. I had requested SPD pedals and these were already on the bike. Most importantly, the bike was great - relatively new and a decent quality road bike. I enjoyed the bike for three days and 'check out' was also easy -- in and out in 5 minutes. We had a great experience here! After leaving Halfords new "Cycle Republic" disappointed by the poor customer service and lack of range actually available to try. Thankfully the staff here were fantastic. I was particularly impressed that the staff (unlike halfords) new everything about their bikes without hesitation. We started at the bottom in terms of price and were shown through the entire range, explaining key features and differences between each one. When we asked questions about what the features were, we were given a good explanations, not just jargon. There was a good range of options availble in terms of compromising price for durability and my girlfriend quickly became attached to one bike in particular. I stayed in the store while she took it out for a ride, she felt it wasn't quite the right fit but she was promptly measured up to another frame size and off she went. Sorted, our search was finally over! Best of all, they offered to take care of all the paperwork in regards to the cycle scheme, we thought we were restricted to halfords own brand bikes, but thankfully we learned this is not the case! We weren't pressured into buying the most expensive bike, in fact I'd say he promoted the mid range most and also a fantastic offer they had on ex hire bikes. About the store: The store is pretty big and certainly seemed to have a good variety of race/folding bikes and good amount of accessories and apparel to go with them. I can't comment on the prices as we didn't buy any. I also noticed other customers popping in and out for the store, presumably for repairs and pick ups, all seemed really happy to be there and were greeted well by staff. firstly I took my Brompton to be serviced after an accident in May, the level of service and care was poor, when I finally received the documentation it outlined the obvious and said the bike was fine... I took the bike to cycle ops in Tonbridge only to be told that the frame was out of alignment and also the steering rack and that they should have pointed this out in the service.. I find the staff at the Cash desk rude and augmentative when I last took my bike in to be told that Bromptons were for the privileged few in London.. also check their times of business as I got caught out when collecting my bike at 6.00pm and told I should come back at 7.30pm! Walked in end of day. Got 2 bikes (1m, 1F) for 100 quid for a week. Make sure the rubber things on the handle bars are fastened. Also make sure the seat isn't on an insane angle and going up your butt. Other than that, bikes were perfect and service was solid. Would recommend bringing your own large Kryptonite chain - that way you can chain up anywhere around anything. read more

I've bought four bikes from here over the past 10 years and things have most certainly gone down hill. The last couple of bikes have been problematic with servicing not being done to a high standard. I agree with the reviewer who says thay are fine until you have paid the deposit and then good service goes out of the window. I had to go back 4 times to collect a bike rack as every time I spoke to them on the phone they gave me a new version of where it was in the store and when I went to collect it, it had been sold or misplaced. Once I had my bike serviced and they had forgotten to re-attach the mud guards properly which meant I have to go back again. Their accessories are very over-priced. I found a the exact same Cat Eye light £10 cheaper on Wiggle. In my view they have expanded too quickly and have not thought about keeping their old levels of service as high as they once were. There are much better bike shops in London, give this one a miss. read more
