As a non-member and a visitor of Evergreen Baptist Church in Rosemead (for several times), I…read morethought my review could some provide useful information and idea of what to expect if you are considering to attend or visit Evergreen's Rosemead campus. First, it may help to know a very brief history, as the church has a rich history as one of the early Asian-American churches of Southern California and a pioneer in the "Asian-American church movement". It was founded back in the early 1900s as primarily a Japanese-American church, and like many other older Asian-language churches, later attracted English-speaking and other nationalities and finally evolved into an Asian-American Church. There is also another congregation located quite nearby in La Puente. Considering the size of its congregation, when you drive up to the church, it seems quite big, with lots of buildings, classrooms, a chapel, and a parking lot (you can also park in the school nearby if it gets too crowded). It is actually a beautiful church campus. You may have to ask around or follow the crowd to the main worship hall. Having attended multiple services at different times, I never found it crowded at all. In fact, each time, the room seemed around maybe less than 50% full. I also visited a Sunday School and was informed that church attendance was lower because the senior pastor Ken Fong was on break for the summer. For an Asian-American church, the worship was relatively lively and good. Typically, these churches are not able to compare to "mega-churches" which are multi-ethnic and bring in thousands of attendees. The songs played were easy to sing and the variety made it well balanced, as the age range of the congregation easily reached to those in their 60s and 70s. The sermons were simple and relatively biblical, didn't require much bible knowledge, and this is nice if you're not a regular church attendee. Also, unlike some smaller or "more outgoing" churches, if you were new or just a visitor, you aren't forced to meet or pray or feel uncomfortable with strangers, you can simply attend and keep to yourself. It is a relatively conservative style of service, quite common in most Asian and Asian-American churches. According to some other Yelp reviews I read, the church has been described as "clique-ish", and I do understand why these reviewers felt this way, I felt some of that, but perhaps it may have to do with church culture and/or the rules and structure of it. I was informed that a 4-week class was required in order to meet people and learn about the church, so this could make it difficult to meet anyone easily, and it seemed strange and a bit formal, but it's also understandable given that the church might want to protect its members from visitors who may not fit in or agree with the church's doctrine and values. Some churches I attended would let newcomers get immediately involved and even teach the children, and so there really needs to be a balance. Overall, Evergreen seems like a decent church (if you prefer evangelical or are curious) to attend especially if you live in the San Gabriel Valley. And if are Asian-American, you will find a lot of people here who likely share a common experience with you if you decide to attend the welcome class. Compared to to mega-churches, it's smaller, so you may not be able hide long if you like to remain anonymous at a church service. However, compared to other Asian churches of its type, it is bigger and seems like it could take some effort to connect with others, but it seems like a good option if you're looking.

I asked help for California Medical Advance Heath Care Directive, she told me don't do anything. She made no plan for me to see pastor even she promised me. I had a minor surgery, why she asked many times when was the surgery and offered no help at all? One day she came to my house without appointment. She is not a new immigrant did not know it was not accepted in U.S. I am very scared for all unreasonable activities in these church, and ask your attention.

How we found it? I was getting to know our son's Little League coach Michael Gregory, and he shared with me that he's actually a Pastor at a nearby church! It was perfect timing, because we were just looking for a new church to attend closer to home. Every since we started attending, my son and I have made really close friends, a few of whom I now work out with 2-3x a week, which has been a total game-changer for me. My son has had plenty of play-dates with a few of the kids there, which has also been huge. It's hard to make close friendships through school these days (it seems) since we just drop off and pick up and there aren't a ton of "hang-out" opportunities for parents of school kids at public school.. but at Bridges, we've made really close friendships from the bonds we've made hanging out in the church parking lot after church every Sunday. There are also a few really good community groups to join. We've done movie nights, ping pong, and there's even a beach day coming up. Every last Sunday of the month, we meet at the park nearby for a picnic lunch, and this is also a great opportunity for folks to get to know each other. The music (worship) is really good at this church. They play some current songs by Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, and Elevation Worship, along with more old school songs I'm beginning to learn, and even some real old ones like Amazing Grace which I finally learned the real meaning of, and how and where it was written. Amazing story, look it up! Anyways, I love this church. It's small(er) than most churches I think? Which, to me, is a good thing.. not too overwhelming at all, pretty easy to get to know a few people right off the bat. Everyone is really nice, warm, welcoming, and pretty open-minded. I've taken my mother (who doesn't attend church) a couple times, and even she seemed to like it. She certainly liked the people, and had some enjoyable conversations after church while we enjoyed some watermelon, snacks and cold brew coffee that was being served. There are a lot of parents here with small children, ranging from newborns to around age 10 or so. Not saying this is a make or break, but if you happen to be a parent with little one(s), you're definitely in good company! The sermons are good. I appreciate how they preach.. it's the type that sorta gets you thinking, and allows you to do your own thinking throughout the week. Some sermons at other churches try and knock you off your socks emotionally, but then that's sort of it. These are well-prepared and thought-provoking. They also do a good job of asking the kids a question at the beginning of each sermon, which as a dad I love, because it engages my son. They offer Sunday School (Bible Class) from 9-9:55am for kids in 2nd - 6th grade. Sometimes I help out in class.. a lot of folks who attend end up serving in one way or another, either on welcome team, or A/V, or even worship (music) team.. for me, it's been a great way to get to know people even better. After kids bible class is over, we had back into the main sanctuary for church at 10, which begins with worship (music). Growing up in an Armenian Apostolic church, this sorta newer style of music with guitars and cajon or drums and bass guitar was a little new to me, but by now it's second nature. I really have grown to love the music, so much so that I've taken to listening to Christian music at home whether I'm working or running, not all the time, but just about as much as any other type of music I listen to. There's so much good Christian music out there now.. even Christian rap music.. it's certainly come a long way! Well, I can thank Bridges for helping to open my eyes (and ears) to more Christian music. If you're still reading this, all I can say is.. why not give it a try.. Bridges that is. It's a sweet church with some really wonderful people. It's not a large church, and I love that we have intimate relationships with so many people here. One extra hour of sleep... let's try it! Holy Angels Parish has a free parking lot. The entrance is on Holly Avenue. The main entrance of the church is on Campus Drive, but you may enter the church from the side entrance from the parking lot. Inside, the church has muted lighting for a comforting effect. Father Blaise's voice is very soothing. He is an excellent orator... he knows when to pause for more emphasis and anunciates very well! The music director is a brilliant pianist and vocalist. I believe that his name is Dr. Jose Soto. I was able to shake his hand and thank him for his inspirational performance! The ushers and greeters did a great job of welcoming everyone and distributing the weekly bulletin. The participants in the back of the church went up for Holy Communion first... interesting pattern - like my home church in Honolulu! I was able to speak with Father Blaise after mass and told him that I enjoyed mass so much that I am looking forward to returning in July!

Wow, the music programming is phenomenal! The choir sings beautifully, the soloists and instrumentalists are all top notch. Of course the church was decorated very festively, and the pastor is wonderful too. If you need a spiritual pick-me-up 10 am Sunday morning, go for a listen--you won't regret it! The organ sounds great, there was piano accompaniment, and a violin and viola duet on Christmas Eve gave a jaw-dropping performance. This costs you nothing to enjoy! I gave a small donation in appreciation. They could fill that church on the quality of the music alone, if more people knew about it!
