I chose a Burlingame Co-op based on a recommendation and after several bad experiences with the students and teachers there(bullying), I was left searching for a school that had more. I was so overwhelmed by the number of schools in my immediate area and honestly, even the yelps didnt help too much. Picking a preschool is a gut feeling kind of thing. After literally 8 school tours, 46 phone calls, and 100's of recommendations, I choose Burlingame Montessori for my son, and I'd like to share that it was one of the best things I have done for my son so far. I am amazed by the progress my son has made in this environment. He is so well spoken people mistake him for older. He is adding and subtracting as well as learning how to read and he is only 4! My mother was hesitant at first with the amount of time to play and the lack of toys but to be honest, I feel it has given him an appreciation for work and play and the things he has. My son is super happy and has come out of his shell; he LOVES his teachers(Julie, SIta and Anna) and cant wait to see them daily. And I know they love him too, which as a mother makes you feel assured. It's obvious to me that my son is learning because he comes home and teaches me what he went over that day. This place has filled my son and my family with warm memories and lots of love.I am super blessed to have found Burlingame Montessori and will continue to rave about until the end of time.

(I don't think Dr. Maria Montessori intended for her educational philosophy to be implemented in a dispassionate manner.) The location is gorgeous, which I believe has a positive, peaceful effect on the children. The founding family still operates the school, and they have a terrific, warm, friendly approach with children.

We only attended for one year, but in that year I've witnessed tremendous growth in her academically and socially. She is happy, confident, reading at a 1st grade level at the age of 5, and has lots of friends. I was especially impressed to see how KAM transitioned in new teachers. Two long-time teachers were retiring, and they brought in new teachers for 6 months prior to the veteran teachers retiring, so they could learn the school's rhythms and also the children had plenty of time to get used to the new teachers. Between my kids, this is the 4th preschool they've attended and KAM handled this transition the best I've ever seen. I recognize that a transition like this is very costly from a financial perspective but it is honestly the best and most healthy option for the students. I feel so grateful for a supportive, nurturing, and loving community that puts the students first. I give KAM my highest recommendation.

Here are some things I would highlight. - Teachers with vast experience : Miss Perry has been leading Millbrae Montessori for nearly 40 years and is the most kind, passionate and incredible teacher you would ever get. She, along with Miss Nicolle and all the other teachers are just the best set of teachers you want for your kids at this age. Kids love them, they help impart life skills and also help gain confidence. We couldn't be more appreciative of the support of Nada and her staff over the last few years. As many parents have experienced, their children's abilities and personalities are unique. Nada's approach to integrating my children into the environment and meeting milestones were appropriately varied dependent on the child and developmental stage. Nada's environment is structured and exposes children to developmentally appropriate concepts over time. My five year old entering kindergarten has learned to read age appropriate books and has learned basic math principles including multiplication (I would have never thought to teach multiplication to a five year old). The Montessori environment has also presented the opportunity to learn leadership skills as they grow to be the older children in the classroom. My family participates in Nada's lunch program which includes fresh cooked/prepared lunch daily. Somehow Nada's veggies taste better than mine because they eat the bell peppers at school ‍. We are only leaving because we want to start preschool. The whole time, even through the challenging time of COVID, this daycare has been excellent. The teachers are thoughtful, loving, and great teachers. They really got her on a easy schedule of naps throughout her life - first two naps and now down to 1 nap or just 'resting'. They cook lunch for her each day! One thing we really appreciated as two working adults - the daycare never had to close unexpectedly because there are multiple teachers. I want to emphasize that this was true even during COVID. Our daughter has developed into a polite, curious girl, interested in nature and books, mostly potty trained (still the occasional accident), and most amazingly of all - can speak Chinese. We really could not have asked for more. I think this daycare is above and beyond and we will certainly send our next child there.

They are very warm but also good at teaching and my son has grown up and learned so much with them. He went from zero mandarin to being pretty fluent. He's also become more responsible from learning from the teachers and the Montessori environment. It's mixed ages and he's an older kid in the class so I wish he has more older kids to play with, but I also appreciate that this helped him be a good big brother to his little sister and how to be a leader. I also appreciate that the teachers are much more modern and have a broader perspective. My old school Chinese teachers I had growing up were either too strict or had much the do or because I said so approach versus explaining things so kids can actually learn. I really appreciate that MBL are all about teaching the kids with logic and openness. With the parents, the teachers were always very responsive over text and very helpful in the parent teacher conferences. Also as a busy working parent, I really appreciate that they provide lunch as part of the tuition fee, so all we had to pack was a water bottle. Any cons? It's a home based daycare so it's not a fancy big school facility. (I think reading books about going to school initially got my kid all hyped about a fancy big playground and school campus). But they keep it very clean and for the time was there my son never got Covid from the school, there was never a Covid closure, and he rarely got sick (maybe 2x over 2 years). I think this was s both because they do a good job cleaning and because of the small class size and high teacher to student ratio.
