it's funny to think the day started with questionable navigation and the very real possibility of…read moreending up in surrey. fortunately, a perfectly timed, well executed uturn changed our fate. instead, we found ourselves at westminster pier park, and what a happy accident that turned out to be. nestled along the fraser river, the park offers a beautiful waterfront walk with sweeping river views, wide boardwalks, landscaped gardens, and plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. it's hard to believe that much of the park was devastated by a major fire in 2020 and later rebuilt. today, it feels fresh, vibrant, and full of energy, with thoughtful design that blends play spaces, green spaces, and the waterfront into one inviting destination. the walk itself was lovely. we strolled along the boardwalk in the warm sunshine, spotted a blue heron near the water, and watched city workers planting colourful garden beds that added even more life to the scenery. between the passing tugboats, river traffic, and ever changing views, there was always something to catch our attention. the playground was an unexpected highlight. what started as a quick look quickly turned into a full blown play session. we lounged in the hammocks, laughed at how difficult they were to get out of, climbed into the twirly spinning round bucket that propel ourselves around using nothing but our body weight, and bounced on the spring loaded seesaws like a couple of kids who had completely forgotten about acting their age. the playground is thoughtfully designed for all kinds of play, making it just as enjoyable for adults rediscovering their inner child as it is for the kids it was built for. we got free parking, a great lunch, beautiful views, lots of laughs, and a reminder that sometimes the best days are the ones you never planned. all in all, it turned out to be a much better adventure than the one the gps seemed to have planned for us.

This is a man made park that was built for residence of New West. I don't come to New West often…read morebut am surprised that this park existed and I don't know about it. Its a mirror of the downtown coal harbour seawalk. It has a pretty nice stretch from one end to the other. So what's interesting here: -There are hammocks set up for people to relax -There are sun loungers that flip from one end to the other depending where you want to face -Volleyball courts for small gatherings -A nice green area for people who just want to sit in the sun -A kids play area -A nice path for walkers like me. This is a very well laid and thought through park. Lots of design ideas has been put into it. I am impressed.

Parking is available in a few spots throughout the park, but most lots (such as the SE one by the football fields) is not free. However there are a pile of free spots on the side streets a short walk away This review is more for the eastern 1/3, as PNE and Playland each have their own reviews already. The park used to be a large football (soccer) stadium for the Whitecaps while they were renovating BC Place for the 2010 Olympics, but that is all gone now and replaced with a 2 really nice football fields. There is a 4 lane running track around the fields (I think 600m length total?) which is great for walks. On the SE side is a secret hidden skateboard park (literally underneath Hastings) that I think is actually a converted cancelled portion of the Cassiar connector. The N side has a small bike terrain park with jumps, and the W side has a "slidey slide" park and a playground for kids. There are also washroom and shower facilities. Fun historical fact - this was the site where 2 people (Roger Bannister and John Landy) broke the 4 minute mile (aka the Miracle Mile) in the same race for the first time in 1954. There is a statue here (as well as one at the PNE entrance on the SW side, as well as at BC Place) commemorating the event. There is also a large wall mural plate on the NE corner.

I had socially distant picnics and also came here to hang out by myself and read. They also had Salty's Lobster Shack posted up here so I could treat myself to some lobster rolls while I enjoyed the sunshine. There is plenty of trimmed grass to lay your blanket on, benches, and shaded areas if it gets too hot. There's also a community garden, a skate park, playground, and basketball court close by. Additionally, there is plenty of street parking if needed. I love me some Mount Pleasant and I love me some Mount Pleasant park!

Mount Pleasant Park seamlessly checks off all three. It's as if the park planners thought as they were laying this out, "Nah, let's not scatter things around to the other parks in the area, let's just jam all the rad stuff into this one particular space." It has... Picnic seating. A basketball court. A playground (with a bubbly approved web climbing apparatus). A community garden. A skatepark (that is a bit noisy, but not in an overly obnoxious way). Part One We arrived and parked within the main parking lot…read moredirectly in front of the area by the Pier, just before 9:30 am yesterday. A first-time experience for my lady and I to the Park - the daughter had been there a couple of times before, but a good while ago. Daughter and I had plans to walk the Park's walkaways and trails, and Mom to stay behind, to take in the views near the pier and surrounding areas, waterfowl activities, and generally to enjoy her time outside in the warm sunshine and fresh air of the beautiful morning we had on the go. A visit to the 'Recreational Pier' was first on the walking agenda. The walk out on the structure offered views of the pier itself (lined from one end to the other, with colourful flowered-planters, and benches to sit and take in sights), and views of the water and mudflats below (with lots of waterfowl resting and feeding), several boats, the boat launching area, and full extent views of both sides of Burrard Inlet as seen at this location. A splendid start to our morning walks. Second on the walking agenda was the walkway along the shoreline, to the start of the 'Shoreline Trail'. We did not make any stop in between -- at the 'Playgrounds', or picnic lunching areas -- just caught some rather distant views, we had forested-trails on our minds. The walkway itself though, offered a very plesant, well-treed walk, with several good viewing spots of the Inlet along the route. We walked with no stops other than enough time along the way to view, catch, and capture some of the natural sights. Part Two Walking the 'Shoreline Trail'. We continued our walk, and when we reached the entrance(s) to the 'Shoreline Trail' we headed left into the route closest to the actual shoreline. This took us into a well-groomed dirt, walking only trail. The route to the right was a paved roadway, and much more popular with family groups, and such. The route taken was definitely 'the' right one for us, and we sure enjoyed it. Heavily-forested, mostly flat, with only a couple of 'stair walks' up slopes, some interesting boardwalks over wet areas, and several lookout spots to stand or sit, and view the sights of the inlet along the way. We walked as far as a smaller trail off the main trail that took us inland, up and into the 'Noons Creek Hatchery' site. After an interesting stop and visit there (review forthcomcoming), we returned to the main trail, and walked back to Rock Point. Next on the walking agenda -- Part Three - walking to the end of 'Shoreline Trail' (soon, I hope!).

There's many spots where there is benches to sit and some picnic tables as well so it's a nice spot to go during the summer time to hang out. It's not overly busy compared to some other parks so that's really nice. They do have a small playground for anyone with young children. Plus ample parking around (either street parking or actually small parking lots). The also have small bridges or platforms (not sure if this is the correct term) that go out in to the water that people can walk on to. Just be aware of all the geese and birds though. There's a ton of them here. They won't bother you if you just leave them alone as well.
