The organizers happily rip off the vendors. Vendors in the smallest booths pay $3000 plus booth structure fees for the 11 day sale. That means every day they need to sell $300 (plus plus) of product to pay the organizers. Another $200 to pay themselves to man the booth. Another x amount to pay for that first $600 of product that covered overhead of the show.... so... how much more to sell to cover all that product that paid for the booth and that paid for your day to run the booth? Mininally, you are giving away yes GIVING AWAY the first $500 of product sold at the show EVERY DAY. That is 5500 of sold product at the show before you BEGIN to make any money whatsoever. Are you okay with that? Instead just rent a chunk of space in your favourite retail store ? And because of the extraordinary overhead visitors get no price breaks. This was my first winter One Of A Kind show ever. It is located in the Enercare Centre on the Exhibition Grounds. It's super convenient to get there if you take the GO or TTC. There's a covered walkway that takes you directly to the doors so you won't get blasted by rain or snow. The tickets are kind of expensive since you're getting access to ashow to buy stuff. They're $18 for adults but I think the bundle with the GO tickets might get you some savings. The show is kind of organized by types of crafts. Notably there was a gallery alley for arts and a section for food. Everything else was mixed in together. You'll find things like hand carved stone and wood goods, ceramics, clothes made from leather and wool, etc. It's great to look for gifts for everyone of all ages and any sort of ailments. A few of things I picked up: - Handmade dainty silver studs that were $30 each or 3 for $70 - Wooden magnetic bookmarks that wrap around the page you were last at that came in a lot of different designs including lots of dog breeds, food related ones like boba and pho - A framed print of a map with a string heart over a featured city It's really well timed event as it's a great place to find gifts for the holidays. There were a lot of amazing things but at the end of the day, it was kind of cost prohibitive to be able to support all the different artists there. read more

The winter show is an annual tradition for my friends and me. It's absolutely the best place to knock off your Christmas shopping list. Unique pieces made my local artists, perfect snacks for stocking stuffers. Even though I say that, I'm starting to find that most of the stuff I'm buying is actually for myself. Oops! Hosted at the giant Enercare centre, there are hundreds of vendors there selling anything from food, to art, to clothing. It's really THE local artisan's market. While some aisles are dedicated to a certain type of vendor (Aisles A-C seem to have the food, one aisle down the middle seems to have all the paintings), most of the aisles have an assortment of sellers. There are a couple vendors I always look forward to seeing. It's mandatory for me to get a couple jars of flavoured honey from Heritage Bee Co This year, I stocked up on their new flavours: Matcha and Pumpkin Spice. I also can't resist the cute cards and magnets at I Know It When I See It that uses Asian-Canadian humour. If you get there early enough, the last few years had a Cricut station where you can get some free swag like tote bags and Santa hats. Tickets are $15 but there are lots of giveaways on Instagram so it's possible to snag a few tickets there. I recommend springing for the underground parking as you can leave all your jackets in the car and head straight up to the convention centre. And bring food and water! You're likely going to be there for 3-4 hours minimum. They do have a section of food trucks there but they're a bit pricey. I haven't been back to the One Of A Kind show in years, but quickly purchased a ticket when I realized some of my favourites would be there again. If you're a CAA member, you can get a discount on their website, which came out to $15/person ($18 regular price) with eligible re-entry throughout the entire show period. Underground parking was $21 flat rate and coat check is an additional $4 per item. Overall, a pricey entrance for #OOAK2023. We arrived around 4:45PM on a Saturday and it took us until closing (8PM) to walk through every aisle (A-X) without getting a chance to watch any of their main stage events. So, be sure to allocate the day for this and definitely bring a water bottle because all the walking will tire you out. There are also benches interspersed if you need a break. The area was decorated for the holiday season and I think they spaced out the aisles well so it didn't feel too crowded - even in Flavours where there's always a frenzy for samples. Almost half of our time was spent in Flavours because that has always been our favourite area. Each stall has plenty of samples so you're able to taste before you buy, so don't come on a full stomach. There were also food and drink vendors/trucks on the north side of Flavours and beside Aisle A in case you prefer a full meal. Notable mentions: - Little Shop of Lobsters Inc: lobster & crab dips - Coach House Shortbread Co: unique sweet and savoury shortbread cookies (e.g. gorgonzola & pistachio, orange & cardamom, etc.) - Abokichi: miso sauces that have become a refrigerator staple - BobAli Foods: unique hummus flavours (e.g. roasted garlic & truffle, thai green coconut curry, etc.) Outside of the amazing food, I also bought some beautiful jewelry, witty greeting cards, essential oil-infused shower steamers, and beeswax wraps. Welcome to the One Of A Kind Show, in Toronto Canada! What a great jam-packed weekend event it was! You buy a ticket and you can revisit anytime, just get your hand stamped with a blue star! Afraid to park or want to save on parking? Park for free at select Go Train station that offer free parking options! I live in Mississauga, less than 50 kilometers away, so I conveniently parked at the Port Credit free Go Train parking (there is room for about 200 cars or so) and bought my ticket. It took 20 minutes to arrive at the Exhibition place. From there, a nice little 10 minute walk from the station to the Enercare Centre. There is a Starbucks near by, but outside the Centre, just south of the building, otherwise you can buy your coffee or beverage of choice inside the event. The patrons were very helpful answering all questions. I found the event was carefully well planned and organized. Lots of food options and many washrooms so you don't need to worry about those little details. Yes, there are PLENTY of visitors, and it makes sense. If you don't like big crowds (like me), plan ahead and prepare yourself accordingly. They serve alcohol at the bar in the center of the event if you want to make the time more bearable. This even is well worth the extra crowd anxiety. You can also come by yourself and be free to schmooze with the artisans there. Every artisan, new or seasoned were quite knowledgeable and took the time to answer any questions. About 80% of the artisans came from Ontario, and the rest from Québec (Montréal mostly) Lots of awesome newcomers this year with fantastic creative ideas and products on display for all to see. The Mobile Gramophone kiosk was my favorite exhibit as I thought it was the most original thing there. Do bring cash and credit cards. 99% accept credit cards. Several take only cash. Free water station. Security present. Line up for Coffee in effect. 99% of the displays accept pictures taken, but as a courtesy to them, please ask them first. I only found ONE in the entire event who asked not to take pictures, but aside from that, it is extra publicity for their craft. Many candle options. Many clothing options. Many food options. Many Body product options (lotions, soaps, cream) Many neat creations. Many original ideas. Many artisanal creations. There is virtually a kiosk for every taste! One Of A Kind - Todays favourite piece - Arts & Crafts Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

If there ever was a polarizing event on different days... it would be this one. The premise is simple... bring an opportunity for Canada's artisan to showcase their handmade arts to the masses in an easy one stop. Reality is ... shoppers hope to heck you're going on a lower volume day or experience possibly the most crazy frenzy and patient draining day... in addition to draining your wallet. As for me, I always try to go on off days and super early (or late) to avoid the mayhem and I LOVE LOVE LOVE meeting the artist to pick up wonderful gifts and support Canadian art scene. I'm one of those people who love supporting my fellow Canadians so this show is totally me. Plus there's food here... with lots of samples. Food! Food! GREAT tasting samples! Throw in a cub and red panda... it's nirvana for me. Anyhow, as most people have mentioned, it's insanely crowded. On Saturdays afternoon, it possibly looks like those terrible black Friday videos you see at Walmart. Except most people are wearing yoga pants, have big strollers, and Canada Goose parkas. It costs $15 per person and then parking which is another $16 ... so before you even buy anything, it's already $31. The busiest section is the flavour (aka free samples). I kid you not... they fit about 1000 people in a tiny spot. Ok maybe not but it feels that way cause a lot of people just want to eat 200 samples and not buy anything so they hog the front spot. "Hey you... the bearded gentleman who the red jacket... yes you. This isn't Costco." As for the vendors... just... awesome. Most artists are eager to share their love and passion. I have to admit, it is pricey!! $44 for the cutest hand painted nightlight... cute but ouch. $280 for a gorgeous fur felt hat... so chic but another ouch. That being said, there are many items under $25 as well. It's just finding that perfect niche to fit your interests. My highlights Flavour section - This is where I buy the most presents (for me). I love finding artists who have a passion for delivering the best quality food. Sure it more expensive but where are you going to find amazung Umami bombs of spicy chilli miso sauce (Okazu) or Maple nut toffee that just buttery and melts in your mouth (Sweet Truth) or the most truest and boldest chai you can find (Chaiwala)! Art - There are some serious talents in Canada. I saw so many glorious paintings that I want to put on my wall. I just need $5000 for it and a wall space. Hats - It seems Canada has an endearing love for all things hats. To be fair, it gets cold here. You will find everything from slim beanies to toques to the perfect Coachella hats. Some are reasonably priced seeing how they're hand made and made with fur felt. Leather goods - There was one Montreal artist who just blew me away with her details and quality. Flecher was the store name and if I'm ever looking for any goods, I know where to go. I know there's a lot of hate but a venue that brings an opportunity for Canadian Artists an audience and a spotlight gets my love. The One of a Kind Show is a great show to go to. The Vendors there are truly "one of a kind". From body creams to soy candles to cute baby towels and clothes, to ladies fashion pieces, to unique jewellery pieces. There is something for everyone. Jam, honey, spreads candies and so much more. This Show is truly organized well from their online advanced ticket purchases/packages to just going to the kiosks and buying your ticket at the venue. Everything seems to be seamless. We took our time and browsed through the many isles from A to Z. In the Center is their main stage and food section. A private area to go to to recharge for those advanced ticket holders. I understand there is over a 1000 vendors, some of which are there for 5 days and then a new group come in. My only disappointment was the Apple Pay pad machines at a few of the kiosks I was interested in purchasing where not working properly. That's ok I got business cards and websites where I can order on line. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Look forward to next year and purchasing tickets ahead. read more

So much to see (and taste)! There were tons of local artisans; it feels great to show your support! Plan to be here for about 4 hours to see everything. The entrance fee is $15 which isn't great. $10 would be perfect. Water bottles are $4 but don't do it: there's a water station at the end of the main stage/isle N (You're welcome). I bought two nougat bars from La Nougaterie Quebec. They were kind enough to let me try many of their flavours. I went with blueberry and maple - delicious! Also bought some toffee from Sweet Tooth - Canadian Gourmet Candy Co. They're based in Winnipeg and have an online store. Their toffee is absolutely delicious! My favourites were original, maple, and white chocolate cashew cranberry. Went with the white chocolate cashew cranberry - so good! I'd definitely recommend you try (and buy) their toffee. Came to about $12 taxes in for a small tin of 90 g. Pricey but worth it! I had a great time here and would definitely come back! read more

I had a great time at the one of a kind show. However, the entrance fee could be less than $15. I tried getting the $2 discount with a promotion code I found online but it was not allowing me to buy the tickets. I got a ride there, otherwise I would be paying another $15 for parking. It does become expensive when you add up everything. So make sure to eat and bring your water bottle. Onto the vendors. There was a lot of food spices and teas along with jewelry and clothing. Some health beauty booths, and arts booths. Not to much for the men but there were some unique booths that had beard oils, wooden or leather bow ties, and one that carried watches. My purchases; Earth to body - they are all natural and use lots of Emu oil in their products. I bought the revitalizing eye oil and the lip balm. Lee's tea - specializing in Tulsi and mint tea along with turmeric and cardamom. They also provide some different flavored ghee. What I really like about this brand is that 10% of proceeds goes to helping the elephants. My purchase was the Gold Rush for aiding in digestion, and the Original for stressful times. Lemo - original lemonade syrup all natural. Delicious and refreshing. What I love about this is that you put 1:7 Lemo to water ratio. I thought, "this is excellent to keep at work". This way I don't have to lug around a big container. I just fill it up at work. I know my co workers will want some. ;) Soulful sister - based out of BC I came across what could potentially help out with my mom's arthritis pain and my uncomfortable flying on planes issues. This company is all natural and it was nice speaking to the owner of the brand. I purchased the "Smooth Joints", for my mom's pain, and the "Keep Calm" for myself when traveling. I'm all set now for my next vacation :) Incredible Spread'Em - ahhh!!! Too delicious!!!! It's all natural, vegetarian, cholesterol free, gluten free, lactose free, no msg, sugar free and nut free. It's a great garlic spread without all the chemicals. This comes in the sizes. Can't wait to make garlic bread!!! My last stop before closing was the NaturaPure - they specialize in 100% wool dryer balls. Great replacement for your synthetic dryer sheets and fabric softeners. I also got a scented natural oil to go along with it. Can't wait to do laundry!!! Needless to say there were plenty of other great vendors and I applaud them for following their dreams. They came from all over Canada with an area dedicated to Quebec. As I exited, (because 2 hrs was not enough) they gave me a free reentry for the remainder of the event. TIP: Bring a water bottle and some snacks/a sandwich 'cause you'll need it! This was my first year attending, so I cannot compare this year to previous years. If I wrote this article within the first few minutes, I would've given it 5*s, but this "sale" ain't cheap. Entrance alone is $14-15*, parking another $14, & this is only for the experience and food samples. HOWEVER, you can get a ticket to re-enter the show, but if you drive, you'll be paying for parking...again. (Re-entry is somewhat necessary because after a few hours, you're #OOAK showed out! You no longer want to bite any brittles, taste any chutneys, or see any soap stands. You just wanna gtfo! I didn't eat/drink anything 'cause I wasn't ok with paying $3 for a small (probably crappy!) coffee, $6 for a lemonade (do you know how many lemons you can buy with that $$$??!!), so for me, there isn't too much to drink/eat. There are food stands and substandard looking coffee carts, but again, they're overpriced!) There are soo many exhibitors that you reach a point where everything starts looking/tasting the same and nothing stands out. So that's when you either leave or take a break. Obviously, they'll be a bunch of booths that won't suit your tastes. The good thing is that the exhibits are somewhat organised into Food, Baby Stuff, & the Arts stuff is nicely distributed so there aren't a bunch of pottery booths right next to each other. I've been attending the One of a Kind Christmas show for 3 years in a row now. While the selections and vendors remain abundant and friendly, I feel it has lost a bit of a touch this year. This year I noticed instead of being a "one of a kind" show, it was more of a "15 of a kind" show. I saw many duplicates of similar items, such as paintings, photos, handbags, and probably the biggest culprit being clothing. In addition, the flavours section, which is usually the highlight of the show for most people, disappointed me somewhat. I attended this show and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair last month, and I felt the winter fair had better food selections. Nevertheless, we still managed to spend a total of 4.5 hours here and visited every single aisle. Similar to the past 2 years, I did purchase some gifts here that would be Christmas worthy. Guys, if you wanna impress your significant other or wife, check out the jewellery places throughout the show; they're definitely worth looking upon. read more

I want to give this a 4, but it's just not there. Firstly, it's $15 to park and $15 to get in. For $30 just to get a crack at buying stuff, you need to wow me. WOW me. St. Jacobs wows me more than this and there's no charge for parking or entry. Also, I agree with other reviewers that the baby strollers are a problem. There seemed to be 20 baby strollers in each and every aisle at any given time. It was unbelievable. I lost count of how many ladies rammed their strollers into me or my friend. A OOAK show just for baby stuff would be a great idea. I agree with another reviewer that the hot food options sucked. Pizza Pizza? That's not OOAK. That's chain food crap. Why not have unique food trucks/carts that people actually want to try. None of the hot food options were appealing. Not a one. There were some good vendors, but there were also some duds. So your mileage may vary. Not sure whether it's worth my spending $30 bucks again next year, to be honest. read more

Few products and items can be a little expensive but majority of these artists create the products from their bare hands and/or with local materials. Majority of these artists and vendors are from Toronto and Quebec, few are from Ottawa. The show is always well organized and not too crowded. First time going to the OOAKS and it was great. I went on Easter Sunday which ended up being the best day as the vendors were saying how Good Friday and Saturday were super busy and packed. I liked having the space to be able to wander around and look without having to seemingly push your way through to just see what's at the booth. Some vendors were also having 'end of show' sales so it was kind of an extra perk! Parking was also free because of the stat holiday which was awesome! Look for street parking and remember you don't have to pay. Also was told of the DeSerres promo code and got $5 off entry! Double bonus. I was interested to see what trends were happening and to speak with vendors from the East and West coasts of Canada! We have such talented folks all around. So many tasty treats to try as well. I was happy to sample the adult beverages offered strategically in the middle of the floor.. I bought a wonderful cocktail mix from Split Tree Cocktail Co. which was featured on Dragon's Den (the demo guy at the booth was amazing btw!) and a few other items. I've been going to the show for 3 years and it's amazing! So much effort put into the organisation and it shows with quality of products, visual aesthetic and coordination. They even offer cheaper tickets on some days. Reentry with your ticket as well. There's so much to see and do (workshops). You could easily spend the day there. There's something for everyone - food, fashion, jewellery, accessories, home, garden. And what's great is it's all Canadian things! read more

Visited the Christmas show on Friday November 25, 2011. It took us 2.5 hours to see the entire show. The admission cost to adults is $14.00. for one day. Type Of Merchandise: The majority of the shops were women's clothing, the sorts of things you'd find at Winners. Lots of children's shops. One entire aisle devoted to food, mostly jams and sauces and nuts, sort of like what you'd expect to see at outdoor fairs. Originality of Shops & Merchandise: Most of the shops had merchandise that was popular 5 or 10 years ago. There was very little innovative or new merchandise. There were some vendors that sold merchandise that was obviously not original or even made in Canada or not even remotely hand made. Price of Merchandise: Fair to overpriced. Most vendors were between 5-10 dollars too expensive. Type of Shoppers: Mostly female, lots of strollers and mostly out-of-towners, and lots of the blue rinse crowd. Booth Rentals: A vendor told me she paid $3500. for her small booth rental space only. It didn't include her display stands and lighting which she estimated cost her another $1000. Overall I think the show organizers are the ones making the money here. I got a free ticket to get in and would never pay the $14.00 they are asking. Overall I think the show is a bust. read more

This is my review on the 2012 Christmas OOAK show. As my rating shows, "Meh. I've experienced better." - better being the past summer show. Everything at the Christmas show just seemed incredibly overpriced and everyone was selling similar items. All the dresses, jackets, leather goods, jewellery, screen prints, paper craft seemed like rehashed versions of everything else. Nothing overly unique. My friend and I managed to get through the whole show in around 2 hours - while the summer show, we were thoroughly enticed for an entire afternoon. I must note that the Christmas show is geared more for gift giving, so the items are a bit more... indulgent and kitchy (??? - not sure the best way to say "priced to impress" and something to give someone who has everything). The shining point, like always, were the food aisles! There was a decent array of different food artisans. Cookies, jams, tapenades, spreads, caked, OH MY! My friend and I had a dinner's worth of food just sampling the different vendors. Highlights were Mad Hatter Bakers (http://www.madbatterbakers.com/) who make some of the best gingerbread I've had and Monkey Butter gourmet peanut butter (http://www.monkeybutterpb.com/ or http://www.yelp.ca/biz/monkey-butter-peanut-butter-vancouver) - both of which I made my only purchases of the day at. I love this semi-annual show and sale. I only realized that it's meant to be a 'craft' show, with original artisans with their products and most of them are useful and decorative 'art'. But yet, it's so much more than that. Everything is or should be one of a kind. their criteria is that you can't find it anywhere else within a certian radius of the city. In addition, you can sample food from all over the country, there are clothes, baby gifts, things for your house. I found the show especially usefull when I just moved out and I needed to spice up the place with some original artwork/chairs/mugs. It's also a great mother/sister/girlfriend bonding experience. i also love the soy bean ladies :) Anf for fellow yelpers that like to reveiw and give opinions, OOAK has a circle one group that changes every year, which lets your meet and convene and discuss feedback and suggestions for the show. AND you get incredible perks like 4 free tickets to each show, $100 to spend at each show, free parking, $25 for food and other things! They'll probably be looking for a new panel next year for the spring show, so get on it! read more

One of a Kind Craft Show and Sale is overwhelming. A friend of mine gets her ticket stamped for re-entry and goes all week. This is a great idea. One afternoon is not enough at the show, but was just about all my wallet could handle. The Show is expensive but for the most part worth the money that ends up flying out of your wallet. I like to walk around and say 'I could make that', but that isn't the point is it - I haven't made it and am not selling it - and I would never make it even if I can. I just need to buy the pretty things and stop deluding myself into some sort of craft room grandeur. The holiday season Show is a great place to pick up unique presents at every price point. read more

The fair was enormous and took hours to walk around, and I was tired by the end, but I felt I had to see it all since we had to pay to get in. The food and drinks were ridiculously priced, as well. Awesome show! So many finds for yourself or for gifts! Not to mention the food! You can make a meal out of sampling here, and everything is gourmet. I bought some incredibly delicious pear flavoured balsamic vinegar that will be fantastic in salad dressings. The show is huge so I would suggest taking a look through the map and vendor lists before you head off in a certain direction. I was there on a weekday evening and it was comfortably busy, not overly crowded. Definitely recommend going - I will be back next year! read more

This is my third year at the One of a Kind Show. The first year was fantastic, the second year was ok but this year I wasn't feeling it. There are several reasons for my lack of enthusiasm. Firstly - in order to find anything (unless you specifically know the name of the vendor) you have to walk through the entire show, there doesn't seem to be any system of classification. Secondly - the website doesn't really give you a sense of what type of products are being offered. It would be great if you could go online, see examples of each of the vendors work so that when you go you know which vendors you want to see Thirdly - if you remember a product from a previous year but not the vendors name good luck finding them! Again there is no good 'search' tool. I think if there was a better directory that would make the show more enjoyable - you could still wander, but would be able to do so without worrying that you were going to miss the vendors you were interested in. I also noticed that it seems to be the same vendors year after year and the products really don't change this much. All that being said it is still a fun day of shopping and I usually end up pickup up a few things. I particularly like the new and upcoming artisans section. read more

This is the third OOAK Show that I've went to. I absolutely LOVE everything about shows like these, you get to see local flavour & talent, along with meeting all of these lovely creative people. My only problem with the show would be the amount of merchandise catered to moms & stay-at-home wives. I am a total homebody, but I just can't bring myself to enjoy rows upon rows of kids clothes and mom-wear. I understand that that is where the market for these companies is, but it would be much more interesting to everybody if there was more diversity! More food wouldn't hurt either! ;) That being said, this is a fantastic event to bring your significant other and enjoy a couple hours' worth of browsing hand-made and one of a kind items. read more

I was invited by new friends to check out the One-of-a-Kind Craft show. I'm not usually a huge fan of too many people checking out an exhibition of small stores since it's usually over-hyped and disappointing...but i have to say this show was very different. The stores were unique (in a GOOD way) and there were lots of really fun, cute, ecletic, beautiful and tasty items...from modern contemporary and clean jewelry to yummy macarons and shortbread and pretty much everything under the sun. There were lots of cute baby and toddler clothes too. The exhibit hall is huge but NOT centrally located and the streetcars decided NOT to work yesterday from Union Stn, so it was an ordeal to get there. They need better public transportation to that convention center. read more

Ah-mazing. This show is the best show around. Wonderful art, jewelry and clothes from one of a kind makers. I also picked up some amazing food stuffs like vegan garlic spread, citrus oil and the most amazing shortbread I've ever had in my life. Be prepared to bring lots of money. Many vendors do not accept credit, cash is your preferred tender. It's not a bad place but I wouldn't spend too much here. I come here for the food and even then you get suckered in because the free samples make you feel somewhat oblige to buy. Not a bad idea but really really expensive! read more

I love, love, love the OOAK. I was introduced to it by my highschool art teacher & I've loved it since then. How much it's grown & how glitzy its become! But I love learning about different Canadian artisans & supporting them so OOAK is right up my alley! This year I got some lovely gifts for my loved ones & of course for myself! LOL. read more

This year was my first show and I brought the BF here and surprisingly he wasn't bored or complaining during the entire outing, so that tells me a few things - there is something here for everyone and for every budget. I managed to pick up stuff for the women on my Christmas list this year, plus eyed some prospectives for the guys. The most crowded areas are the food section, which I think is due to the sampling that are being offered. I would probably recommend that you go earlier rather than later, since there are some artisans that are not local, so if they run out of stock - you might be out of luck. Crowd wise - I thought it was going to be a logjam, but it wasn't My picks for Favourite booths - Lilliput hats - I've known they've had a retail store around College and Spadina, but it's hard for me to get to their store. Finally replaced my lost Enfield cap that I lost 5 years ago at an office Christmas party and my new one is identical to the one I lost. Plus found some other hats that I might purchase at a later date. Tresnormal - for the BF, but they didn't have the size I wanted; which is what I meant about going closer to the show start rather than the end - because they ran out of sizes in the design I wanted. read more

Lovely. It's like Etsy, come face-to-face, interactive. I spent hours here today. Clothes, jewelery, art, soaps, handmade edible treats, pottery, woodwork, fine arts,... Every vendor at the show produces their own art, they must to have a booth there. I wish I had more $$ to support these artisans, etc... So many pretty things, eye candy for sure. I was able to find some classy gifts that will be fun to give, for the Holiday season. Not only the vendors in good spirits, even fellow shoppers were friendly and helpful. Free re-entry. Admission is $14; $12 if you purchase online. Everyone that I met was based in Canada. ~~~ *stroller-friendly, there's also a change room and feeding room for your convenience; *free child care, for up to 1.5 hours, for certain age groups (starting at 2 years). ~~ Parking is yuck, at a $14 flat rate. I went to the One of a Kind Show yesterday and wanted to provide an update for the reader's about this year's exhibit. Firstly, if you have the chance, or the day off, to go during the week, I highly recommend it! During the week you will have much more breathing room and less elbowing to do as you make your way through the alphabet-labeled aisles. Mind you, it took me and a group of friends 4 hours to get from Z to R, and A to H. All very good aisles, but I can't report on I to Q. There is just way too much to look through! The ideal way to peruse through this very large show is to have a game plan. Go on their website and download one of the show maps. It outlines all of the exhibitors and artisans and where they are on the floor. If you want fashion, stick to the fashion section. If you crave paintings, photography or mixed media, go with the visual arts section. If you are hungry, check out the bistro section; the samples alone will fill you up! This Christmas One of a Kind Sale had plenty of holiday ornaments and decor to purchase, which sets it apart from the show they have in the spring. Many artists have returned from last years show, but there are a number of new ones I found and enjoyed (or missed last year). My favourite was the Old Stamp Company which sold hundreds upon hundreds of ink stamps (not the ones you put on envelopes for mail). The stamps come in all different shapes and sizes and there is neat demo that shows you how to make truly unique gift cards, tags or bookmarks-a great gift for a kid or any artist! There were a lot of fun kid-friendly toys and games being sold as well, and you'll find hordes of holiday gift ideas. The One of a Kind Show is on until Sunday this week! read more

First of all, leave the kids at home. The strollers are ridiculous, plus incredibly boring for kids. The aisles don't accommodate with the amount of people. The organizers should invest in a secondary building, throw the kid crap and food in that one. The parking is a 'crime'; $15-17. Overall a test in patience, lots of cool vendors, too bad it's so challenging getting to them. LOSE THE STROLLERS! Kids free day! read more

The One of a Kind Show is a vast celebration of unique ideas, talent, and imagination, the kind of event that reaffirms my faith in humanity despite an age of box malls and conformity. If you love shopping at Wal*Mart or Target or the like, please, stay away from One of a Kind... you probably won't get it, and you definitely aren't deserving. Ranging from quaint, sentimental throw-backs (crochet, handmade christmas ornaments, etc) to cutting-edge graphic design (laser-cut steel wall hangings), there's really something here for anyone who appreciates craft and artistry. And while I would guess I was indifferent towards roughly 75% of the shops on hand, 20% were exceedingly interesting and 5% blew me away. The great part is that these percentages will differ for everyone, and the content thereof will differ too. I may not care for hand-carved tree-faces, but maybe you'll find them delightful! My three complaints are relatively minor, but I think they bear mentioning: 1) There is a distinct lack of comfortable seating in the venue itself. This place is vast -- I spent 7 hours there -- and being able to sit and take a load off in the venue itself would be most welcome. Especially if, like me, you've had knee surgery 5 days prior. 2) The food court is pretty crap, and Pizza Pizza dominates. This is the One of a Kind Show... offer me some One of a Kind food, please! 3) Also on food, it seemed that a lot of the people selling their homemade sauces/vinegars/whatever were not particularly knowledgeable about ingredients or source. I was turned off quite a few such vendors when they couldn't tell me where their ingredients came from, whether they were organic, etc. I just don't trust your spicy vinegar if you don't know the age or origin of your balsamic, let alone exactly what type of hot pepper your'e using. This may be more a staffing issue than anything. I'll leave you with some highlights: The Peppermaster www.pepperfire.ca/ This man makes some of the best hot sauces I've ever tried, maintaining flavour while offering some killer heat. His hottest sauce, made with the famed Butch T Scorpion pepper (one of, if not THE, hottest peppers on the planet) is killer good. He's also a genuinely very nice guy. Getz Glass alyssagetz.com and tommycudmore.com Some seriously inspired glass work. I particularly love Tommy's "steam walkers", robot-ish walkers with huge, creepy glass eyeballs. Charlevoix Pure Laine Wool charlevoixpurelaine.ca Simple, well-crafted 100% wool outerwear and socks. Charlevoix is trying to re-ignite the wool industry in Quebec after it died decades ago. Currently, the vast majority of quebec wool ends up in landfill. Thankfully, I can now wear some of it on my head. Gosia gosia.ca/ Gosia is a gifted illustrator who also incorporates clay and 3d elements into some of her art. At times melancholy, often whimsical, I just plain loved her work. Muma Fine Woodworking muma.ca Made from wind-fallen and salvaged wood, Wayne Muma's furniture is stunning. He had a cabinet he built from an applewood tree that had fallen on his property; he air-dried it for three years. That's dedication to craft! NicoNico www.niconico.ca Nico has devised unique, hand-made wooden parlour games the likes of which I've never seen. His website is under construction, but if you're reading this review post January 2012, check the link. His betting/racing game, Hadz, is brilliant. That just scratches the surface... I completely LOVE this art show and sale. I'm been coming to the Christmas (Dec) show for 5-6 years and always leave inspired, happy, tired and broke. I'm now smarter and start saving for my shopping spree earlier in the year. There are a few artists I visit year after year. I highly recommend this show for people who like to support local artisans and who want to wear original clothes and accessories. There is a Spring show around May and a Winter show (Nov-Dec). Haven't been in years and so happy to be here. Brought my kid on a Friday, PA day, and we are having a great time. We started in the middle since we didn't get here until 11AM. Halfway done and we have crystal jewelery, velvet choker and a fridge magnet of a lamb with two heads! Pizza and water and then we go to the real start to end off at the middle. read more

This show seems to have lost some charm. It's still a great shopping opportunity for the well-off, discerning buyer, but probably not for an average craft loving shopper. Tea, soap, scarves, bags, jewelry all seem about 2 or 3 times more expensive than you'd find at smaller shows. It's $15 just to get in and then even water is mandated to be sold for over $4 per bottle! (My husband called this "criminal") There are no drinking fountains to be found either. I guess there's a place for this sort of show but the organizers have let me know there is no place for shoppers like me. Won't be back. read more

My daughter and I love coming to the One of a Kind Show every year. The show this year was fabulous and we had a great time until we went to visit a vendor that we have visited in the past and have purchased quite a few pieces from. The booth I am speaking of is "Daniel Pollack" Fashion Jewelry, he was extremely rude to us, he asked us if we knew of his product, my daughter started to answer and he abruptly turned his back and ignored us. I continued to look at the product with my daughter standing next to me. He suddenly rushed out and accused my daughter of stealing. Very insistently he said " I think something fell into your bag, let me look in our bag". We were shocked and opened the bag, he then walked over to the area where we had been looking to check his product. I am writing this as I hope he reads this and understands that he should not treat customers or anyone this rudely. I do not think that this is the type of vendor the One of a Kind show wants representing them. read more
