We have been going to 135 Prime for several anniversaries and were always impressed. This last time we were seated near the kitchen, after making reservations the day before, 4:30, just started service, noisy kitchen clatter. Why? We ordered drinks. I had the Maple Old Fashioned, like I usually do, the cubes were small so it tasted watered down. No pick for the cherry, no straw, wasn't smoked. What a waste of Whiskey. My wife's agave drink also sad. I had another whiskey cocktail and felt like a waste. I usually get the Rack of Lamb which has always been unbelievably great. Not on the menu anymore. Got the chef's pick which came with several courses. Salad was plain, soup was incredible, fish was ok, I don't remember what the other thing was. Service was great as always but when you spend $175 plus $36 for a tip I expect top level. Next year I would have a hard time going back there for my 42nd anniversary. What a shame. read more

That is what we did, the problem was addressed to our satisfaction, and here I present the outstanding experience we had at this restaurant. Service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and food preparation. The ambience was very pleasant, from drinks on the outside patio to our meal inside. Our party of four ordered a lot, including two steaks, Chilean a la Prime, the Chef's weekly special, asparagus, and more. Going to start this off by saying the service was top notch, our waitress was great and all of the support staff were on top of it. Only reason for 2 stars. That said, I am actually blown away that they are getting away with charging the prices they charge. I mean genuinely shocked. The food is average at best, Luby's at worst. Not the end of the world, it was fine. The part that makes no sense though is that my steak was $70 (not even the most expensive cut), everything else on the menu was $60+ and that didn't even include sides. And all this is in Waco!!! You can go to Dallas, Austin, Houston, Fort Worth, you name it and get a MUCH better meal for half the price. I mean seriously, you guys are charging Dallas prices for Chili's level of food quality. But, either they're putting something in the water in Woodway or someone's been drugging me, because clearly I didn't get the memo. This place was PACKED with people more than happy to drop hundreds of dollars on this very mediocre food. If you're a local and this is your favorite spot, disregard my review. If you're from out of town visiting Waco and looking for a nice steakhouse, go somewhere else. I can't believe the owners charge this much for this quality. I've eaten at this restaurant many times over the years. There was a time, maybe 15 years ago, when it was the best fine dining location in Waco. But those days are over. The decor is dark and dated. Brat pack? Really? The food is fussy and unimaginative. If the menu has changed at all in the past 20 years, it's hard to see how. To be clear, things are well-executed and there are no disasters. But it's old, boring, and the ownership is just coasting along not realizing that what worked 20 years ago in Waco is not sufficient today. The staff is competent. I will say if half stars were available I would give closer to 3.5. This experience lacked an equality to price required. Upon making the reservation, I included we were celebrating a special occasion and our server did not already know that, poor service in my opinion for this establishment and nothing special was done- a missed opportunity. The atmosphere was dark with beautiful chandeliers, tables a bit close- I had to have people scoot up in their chairs when needing to get out between tables to use the bathroom. Food was ok- my filet was delicious and cooked to requested temperature. My baked potato was large but the toppings were few, they did bring more upon request. My husband's ribeye was so thin, but was cooked medium as requested. The crispy Brussels were soggy not crispy. My son enjoyed the lamp chops, nicely seasoned. I just expected better. read more

I wish I had more pictures to post here, was too busy enjoying it all. Let's start out with the service - from the bartender to our server, we were well cared for. We arrived a little earlier so we went to the bar and enjoyed some whiskey (their well whiskey is Buffalo Trace - not a bad choice if this is their base line!) and Riesling. We then went to our table and ordered some oysters from BC (British Columbia) which were fresh and delicious accomplices with horse radish, cocktail sauce and a butter base sauce - all delicious. Then had the calamari with more, excellent sauces. Main course was the 10 oz rib eye (maybe it was 12? I forget) with some sides. Flavor was on point! Maybe a little less quality on the meat choice for the price but still delicious. Overall ambience was great for what it is. I would say atmosphere is the lacking area here. It works, don't get me wrong, but it's not a pampas room or fancy club that you might expect. It's not a dive by any means and it lives up for the price with drinks, food and service!! Such a lovely ambiance and wonderful staff. We started with a charcuterie board that had such a large array of delicious cheese. I only wish each had a little tag with what kind of cheese, so that I can purchase later. I also had a lobster bisque as a starter. Sadly this was nothing special and didn't taste like a traditional lobster bisque. The waiter was very patient with all my menu questions. I couldn't decide what to eat and he said the salmon was popular. I love salmon, but sometimes restaurants can over cook it or it comes out tasteless. THIS salmon honestly was probably the best salmon I have ever had! It was so tender and flavorful. The veggies and rice were perfect as well and paired nicely. One of the top places in Waco for a quiet and intimate ambiance, perfect for date nights or double dates. One of the only places I would trust for raw oysters (the Virginia points were spot on this week) and their steaks and Chilean sea bass never ceases to impress and hit the spot. Between a 4 and a 3 here... service was good and friendly. Indoor ambiance was alright, actually preferred their outdoor patio set up if it's a pleasant day weather wise. More casual but cute. Food wise we did the pecan crusted sea bass which was delicious and my fiancé got the steak which was pretty good quality. They were out of the bottle of wine I ordered and of course the alternate options brought to us were significantly higher priced but good. Desert wise we did the crème brûlée and the turtle cheesecake which had tons of toppings with it. Ordered chateubriand for two - which includes prime tenderloin cut table side, two salads and two sides (not sure if it was because we chose lobster risotto and lobster mac but there was an up charge for both) and crème brûlée for dessert.Accompanied this with a pomegranate martini. Both salads (house and caesar) were great and your average as far as taste. The prime tenderloin was cooked perfectly with a nice peppered/salted crust and served with pickled red wine reduction onions and a béarnaise sauce. It was an okay restaurant. I found it a bit unnerving that the establishment has zero f**ks about dress standards. You had people walk in like they just participated in a rodeo and others looking like they were about to go fishing, caps, flip flops and all. We found the food to be good but not great. We were definitely not aligned with the vision of chef for many of the items we tried. We were disappointed in the crab cakes, it reminded us of the offerings of at HEB. We did enjoy the sauces that accompanied the crab cakes. My waygu NY strip reminded me of Salisbury steak, not terrible but certainly not the flavor profile I anticipated. Lobster Mac was another head scratcher, the dish was all one note. No nuttiness, no complexity , nor creaminess. There was a large amount of lobster pieces which was a pleasant surprise. Brussels sprouts were well seasoned but again, what would have put them in the winner's circle were if they held back in the oven a little longer to develop more caramelization and crispness. Desserts were also good. The bread pudding was on point, the key lime pie was one that I'd prefer less coconut. The coconut infused crust was just effing delicious, but the coconut whip cream and shavings was too much. It strongly over powered anything key lime. The brightest spot was the service from our server Meagan. Who was prompt and courteous and a master of the menu. If someone else were paying I'd return happily...and wear my best jorts and LeBron James jersey. read more

135 Prime Definitely one of best Steakhouse in Waco. I had the Ribeye and was prepared very well. Top notch beef and great dry age prepared. Hawaiian Sea Bass was melt in your mouth tender, we shared with the Ribeye to have turf and surf. Garlic Mashed Potatoes were good but did not wow. Loaded baked Potato was good and complimented the entree. Creme Brulee was on the house for celebrating birthday which was a generous portion AZ and very good. Be prepared to pay for what you get, very expensive but you pay for what you get. Great ambiance, service and overall experience. There is also a private separate area for a Chef's Table experience. The New York Strip, 6 oz filet and 4 oz filet medallions were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Flavor was as good as Killens in Pearland or Perrys(Baybrook, FWD Market). I appreciate they have two salad sizes and a smaller steak so I can enjoy sampling a salad, steak and dessert. Lobster bisque needs more lobster and brussel sprouts needed to be cooked slightly longer. Its a very nice resturaunt and most people dress business casual. I wish the resturaunt would do a better job of clarifying, posting and enforcing a dress code for such a nice resturaunt. I was under the impression the dress code was business casual, but one young adult male was wearing a ball cap. Listing "casual" in your resturaunt description is open for a wide range of interpretation-maybe add smart casual. Resturaunts like this one in Houston enforce dress codes like no baseball caps, gym attire, etc. and the best resturaunts have a manager/owner that comes by the tables to greet the customers and make sure the dining experience is going well.
