This consisted of a choice of 4 crepes, chocolate covered strawberries and a milkshake, tea or coffee. I had the salted caramel and banana crepe with salted caramel icecream. It was delicious but very rich. I also had the mint milkshake which was tasty. My partner had the chocolate and strawberry crepe but he wasn't overly impressed. They also have savoury options and high tea experiences. We tried the Raspberry and Rose High Tea. It was a lovely experience, service was great, but it was not the best high tea I have been to. They're probably most famous for their smoothies and smoothie bowls, but I go there for their vegan wraps (they have 2) -- one that's a spicy enchilada kidney bean wrap, and one that's a ghanna dahl wrap, both clearly labelled as vegan. Their salads can probably be veganized quite easily as well -- I haven't tried. Vegans and lactose intolerant should be aware they put dairy in most of their smoothies. This place is a hole in the wall, with mostly outdoor seating and a smattering of bar stools inside, so people generally do take-away unless the weather's nice and you want to sit outside. Price-wise, they're pretty reasonable. I think the food and smoothies are OK but not exceptional. Service is always very friendly, which is nice.

LuxBite is a medium-sized cafe that has successfully creates a charming and homey atmosphere with a touch of class from the high ceiling, modern design and marble table top. I walked in at around 3:30 p.m., and already they ran out of 50% of their selections, also missed the opportunity to try their MasterChef famous Lolly bag cake *sad* My pick of treats: Kuma - A wonderful play of strawberry and banana cream flavor on top of a chocolate tart pastry. The presentation was insanely adorable, but taste-wise, it was too sweet and heavy for my liking. The chocolate decorations was not delicate and the tart based pastry was a tad too hard. With each cake costing $8-9 each, expensive for what basically amounts to a few bites. Be My Love - Again, the presentation was so darn cute, almost too beautiful to be eaten. However, it was just as forgettable as the previous. A milk chocolate mousse with raspberry jelly in the middle- it has that combination taste of sweet and sour that was a little too overpowering for my palate. The best part about my trip to LuxBite however, has got to be sipping their Rose lychee latte. Mildly infused Rose-lychee flavor latte garnished with raspberry bits. Quite creative, delicious and slightly bitter - a perfect remedy to tone down the richness and sweetness of the cake. Short to say, LuxBite was just an alright experience for me, but I would say it's still worth the try - the taste might not be anything too special, but the cake artistry here is superb and the staffs are full of smiles. Yes, that's right, you can now get Vegie Bar food to go -- no more waiting endlessly for a table, no more surly hipster waiters, no more practically sitting in your neighbor's lap as you crane to reach your plate -- just the good ol' Vegie Bar food you know and love in a fraction of the time and to be eaten in the comfort of your own home. (Or wherever.) Just pop in to Girls & Boys and go to the Vegie Bar takeaway window to your left. But let's talk about the Girls & Boys desserts, as this place is primarily a dessert shop. They have a variety of gorgeous, artfully created desserts -- puddings and little cakes and tarts and things like that -- that rival the likes of Brunetti (but without the cruelty of eggs and dairy!) A lot of them are also gluten-free or free from refined sugar. I will add there's not a HUGE amount of selection, but what they do have is beautiful. Personally, I was in the mood for gelato so I sampled the blood orange gelato (yum) but ended up going with chocolate hazelnut because it's hard to find vegan chocolate hazelnut gelato in this world! (probably a good thing for my waistline). While it wasn't the most amazing gelato on the planet, it was really really good, tasted exactly like a dairy chocolate hazelnut gelato would, and I would happily order it again. They also do soft-serve (including choc-tops!), smoothies (some healthier than others), and coffee (including your usual trendy stuff like turmeric and matcha lattes). They offer the whole variety of non-dairy milks for your coffees, including macadamia nut milk, which is unusual and pretty cool. The place doesn't really have any seating, so it's more of a grab-and-go kind of place. Service was friendly. Price is reasonable -- along the lines of other speciality dessert-type places. Even if you're not vegan, this is a great place to go if you have a dairy or gluten allergy, and a great place to get fancy little cakes and things for those special treat-yourself occasions as well. But even if you have ZERO dietary restrictions, this place is worth a visit -- don't miss it.

Of course, the phrase could be applied to pretty much any cafe worth its salt in Melbourne, but as it was uttered here I feel it should be attributed accurately. He ordered a big fryup, I ordered my usual coffee. His came laden with bacon, hash brown, spinach, mushroom, eggs, toast. You know, the fry up. I cursed myself that I'd already eaten (this cafe has the other three word phrase that lightens up my day: "Gluten Free Available") and I watched his orangey egg yolks dribble all over the plate drooling a little. There's a nice trend I'm noticing in cafes at the moment to make sure that any coffee (especially if it's a weird request) comes looking as aesthetically pleasing as it tastes. Actually, sometimes it looks far better than it tastes, but this isn't the point right now. Good coffee, nicely presented. Place looks good too, there's a huge cartoon map of Ashburton on the wall that's fun to look at whilst waiting for food.
