DO NOT take a payday loan from this company. if I could give them ZERO stars I would but in order…read moreto submit this review I have to give them at least one. I work for the postal service and took out an allotment loan for $900 and was required to pay something like $79 a pay period, which was no problem, except that when the postal service updated and made major adjustments to its employee website a little over 4 months after I had taken out the loan it kicked the allotment information entered by employees out of the system and being that they did not notify us and that I received a paper check at that time and didn't really use the website I did not know that this had happened. I also had not been turned over yet and was still considered to be a part time employee (360 days on off 5) and sometimes we worked 5 days a week other times 6 so my pay was not always a consistent amount so i didnt notice that the $79 was no longer being taken out. Fast forward 5 years later I receive a summons delivered by officer to my mother's house to attend court for this issue but there is no clear court date listed on the paperwork. Mind you I have not received any correspondence of any kind notifying me that I still owed this debt and by my calculations I had paid a little over $500 of the $900 I owed on the initial loan so I owed less than $400. Needles to say I missed the court date and missed the court date to try and appeal the ruling which was November 10 because I did not receive the correspondence outlining my options until 6 days after the deadline. So now this company is garnishing my wages to the tune of $400 a pay period for the next 5 months because now I have to pay them $4000 dollars because of all the added on fees when I only owed them less than $400 and now I have to put off plans that I had made with my life because I can no longer afford to do them. I HATE THIS COMPANY DO NOT USE THEM. Jason Horan

I have been an ACU member for 16 years and live in California, even though ACU is based in Chicago…read more Pros: ---The vast ATM network. The Visa debit card works wherever Visa is accepted. I can deposit/withdraw for free at any credit union ATM and many other ATMs. Yes, I can deposit cash and checks via an ATM that is not owned by ACU. I have not even seen an ATM owned by ACU ever. If ACU is not advertising their national ATM network, they should. ---In foreign countries, one can use a foreign ATM to withdraw cash in the foreign currency. I have not been charged fees, and the exchange rate is good. I just find the largest bank in the country. It has always worked well and makes getting a foreign currency simple. If ACU is not advertising their international ATM network, they should. ---The mobile app works smoothly and can handle nearly all my transactions (including check deposits). Depositing/withdrawing cash is handled through an ATM, as mentioned above. ---The desktop website works smoothly. ---Transfers between ACU members are instantaneous. ---Transfers between other banks work smoothly via ACH transfers. ---I opened a checking account for my minor child (joint owned by me), and my child got a debit card labeled in my child's name. When my child is away, sending my child money is as simple as an instant transfer to my child's account. ---I opened a trust membership with accounts owned by the trust. It operates the same as an individual membership. ---The APY on the savings is good (currently 3.1% for balances over $100). ---I cannot recall any big hiccups over the past 16 years in which I have been a member. I have other accounts at 2 banks, and ACU is in constant comparison with them. Cons: ---I heard there are no branches, but maybe there is a branch in Chicago (?). This does not matter to me because I cannot remember the last time I was inside the branch of a bank or credit union. ---The current APY for a checking account is low (currently 0.25% for any balance). To counterbalance that, you can keep money in the higher yield savings and transfer to checking as needed. ---The bad reviews I saw are surprising and the reason I made this review.
