I had a bunch of points that were going to expire, so our two nights were mostly covered. We transferred from our other hotel around 11am and were able to get into our room here right away. The exterior of the hotel is nice, but compared to other hotels the exterior does not have the Haussmann building exterior. Who cares! The inside of our room was compact, with pretty views. The bed was so comfortable with perfect linens. There was a fridge for snacks that we brought back from Le Grand Épicerie. There was a rare freak hail storm that happened while we were taking an afternoon rest, so that was interesting. Nice restaurants and bakeries nearby. A Bon Marché downstairs in case you forgot to pack something and want an inexpensive replacement. There is a small functional elevator. Something to keep in mind if you try to leave near checkout time. This hotel is a short walk to l'Arc de Triomphe and the Champs d'Élysées. We took taxis everywhere, but transit options should be decent.

In France, August=national vacation time so hotels are expensive and fully booked while some shops and restaurants are closed. The hotel is rated 4 stars and we paid €128 with an early booking. The day rate when we got there was €170 per night. The location is fantastic! You have 2 metro station close by,Ternes & l'Etoile, and you're close to the Champs Élysées (5-10 min. walk). If you're arriving by plane you can take the Air France shuttle bus for €12.50 which will drop you at L'Étoile. Situated right next to it is a Monoprix which is similar to Waitrose(UK) in terms of food but they also have clothing and a few items you would find at the drugstore. I think you cannot do better in terms of price and location. The hotel is modern, renovated, and well kept. The staff was lovely and helpful, a smiling face in Paris is a rare! The room was spotless and well organized considering the size. The boyfriend who actually grew up in Paris told me the room was big for Paris standards. If you're coming from North America you might be surprised as it is about half the size of our regular rooms. Don't worry, it doesn't feel small somehow when you're spending time in it. The hotel only serves breakfast for an additional charge if you have a regular room and the price started at €8. I cannot comment on the food as we were always having a croissant on the go somewhere around town. I looked at the menu quickly and it did seem lovely, they even had gluten-free options. The Monoprix next door also had a ton of gluten-free options. If you're coeliac you can easily come here without bringing a bunch of food from home. The only downsides are the single tiny elevator, it fits 2 people with a suitcase at the most and there's only one for 8 floors...typical Paris, and the lack of a shower curtain. To avoid the water from spilling everywhere there's only this glass but it's simply not large enough. Overall a great little hidden gem in Paris.

Unscheduled? This is so third word. Mssr Lorenzi is the manager who failed to give ANY notice of the power outage!! We talked to Charlie (from Malaisia) and Lucy at the front desk and they couldn't do anything about the power being off. They indicated that the management had posted notice in the elevators but we were on the ground floor, never needing the elevator!! The room was cold. The rooms were dark. The night clerks indicated that the manager, Lorenzi, would discuss this with us the next day. Lorenzi never did. This was also unprofessional. Service problems will always happen, but management should lead the way to finding a solution. Other problems. There is wifi in the lobby but not in the rooms (not that they advertise it, but they also don't advertise electricity and didn't deliver that consistently either) The room we had was nice but dated and dark. We had a two level room with a queen bed upstairs. The queen bed was two twins pushed together with a seem in the middle that was hard. The left side was sagging and the right side was firm. This meant that my wife and I slept on the firm side, all squeezed onto one twin. We did not eat in the restaurant because it looked small and run down (and EMPTY). In my opinion, Mssr Lorenzi fails to run a professional hotel. We are due back in Paris next year, and will NOT be returning. The location is good but Lorenzi had nothing to do with that.

The colorful & funky interior and design of this boutique hotel along with the personal touch of breakfast in the common room, a reading lounge and even a garden with outside seating! I also like that it is a local neighborhood hotel and not in the busy madness of some of the more central locations of Paris. There are plenty of cafe's, restaurants, shops, banks, grocery stores, markets all within walking distance along with the train and taxi stand! There is only one small catch and that is there is no air conditioning (may be why it was such a great price). Usually that would not even matter in Paris but when we visited it happen to be almost 90 out every day, the nights were cool though. If you don't mind just leaving the windows open and catching the cool Paris breeze then who gives a crud about the Air Conditioning. ;-) Breakfast is not included with the price but it is offered for a small fee per person (worth it in my opinion). They have a wide selection on goodies for breakfast along with fresh breads and jams (YUMMM). There is NOTHING uppity about this Hotel. This is the type of place I would return over and over to.

I really liked my previous hotel, until I realized what I was missing, the warmth and friendliness of the human touch! Adrian and Didier were both warm and lovely every time I encountered them. They were both genuinely interested in making my stay pleasant and offered help and suggestions if needed. At this point I'd been staying in the area for a week, so I had my routine down, but it was nice to get to chat with some nice locals. My room was a single and I got it at a good rate. Despite being a single room, it was spacious for me. I even had room to do my evening exercise routine. The bathroom was compact but totally functional. The room and the bathroom both had windows overlooking a quiet residential street. Around the corner were several eateries, bakeries and great restaurants. Half a block away was the Pernety station. This area is fantastic because it is so authentic. It is not overloaded with tourists but it is still very convenient. People are friendly and you have your choice of Bakeries every morning on your way to the metro stop. If I was to return to Paris tomorrow, I would most definitely book a room here!

Magenta is a small hotel and on paper, probably nothing to write home about - but the location is fantastic and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. You're about 15 minutes' walk from Gare du Nord, and if you can't be bothered to walk that distance then the hotel is only a few seconds from the Jacques Bonsergeant metro stop. Rooms are a bit on the small side, but clean and well maintained. We had a couple of issues with our room on our most recent visit due to some work going on in the hotel (our curtains were taken down one day and they forgot to put them back up!) but nothing serious. The hotel has breakfast, but we opted to grab food from some of the nearby boulangeries (Mamiche in particular is my recommendation!). Rue de Magenta isn't the classiest street and has quite a few homeless people on it, but you're incredibly close to the canal and can easily get around the city using the aforementioned metro stop, or taking a 10 minute stroll down to Republique and using that one instead. Hotel Magenta 38 isn't fancy, and it isn't perfect. But it's great value, great location and great staff will keep me coming back for more.

This hotel who was operated by Yani at the desk during this early hour and he was the nicest person I've encountered in helping me locate my Airbnb and calling me a taxi. I am beyond grateful for the help and kindness this man showed me during a time of desperation. Yani, if you're reading this, thank you so much again. A little farther from the touristy sites (Louvre, Eiffel Tower), but manageable if you're willing to figure out the bus system. As for the accommodations, we paid for the cheapest rooms and was placed in one on the ground floor next to the stairs, but did not even notice any noise from passing foot traffic. Clean room, full-sized mattress, spacious (a little dated) bathroom with only a shower. One night, we brought back dinner to eat in the ground floor patio, and were pleasantly surprised when the staff offered us proper plates and cutlery for our meal. In summary, Hôtel Relais Montmartre offered a very comfortable and friendly stay in a quaint, less-touristy neighborhood, a great Paris boutique hotel experience. Note: Free Wifi available.
