I purchased a Matsuda frame from the store at an excellent discount, and the staff were very helpful throughout the process. After Vision Works installed the lenses, the Matsuda frame developed a defect. I returned to the Optitians 3 store, where the frame was replaced under warranty and the lenses were reinserted. I'm still torn about my love for my new Chanel frames, but I did have a positive experience at Opticians 3. I popped in a couple of weeks ago to check out the selection, after being drawn in by a cute pair of Bevel (? never heard of them, but they cost a lot) frames in the window. A few pairs of glasses caught my eye, but nothing screamed my name, so I went on my way. The following week, I continued my search and couldn't find anything I liked anywhere, so I made my way back to this store. (I tried the Newtonville location, fyi, which has a much more low-brow selection.) I returned and decided I had to have a pair of black Chanel frames. A sales woman came over to help me and quoted prices on lenses. I opted for a pair of no-glare and no-scratch, which are really the best part about my new glasses. As I'm alternating obsessively between this pair and my old one trying to decide which shape I like best, these new lenses have the old ones beat by a mile. I can see super clearly. As for the service, which seems to be a hot topic in these reviews, I didn't have a bad experience. I found the first woman who helped me kind of average...she called me the day after I purchased the frames to let me know they were defective and they'd ordered me a brand new pair. I was super disappointed I had to wait--I'm used to the in and out in an hour deal at Lens Crafters. Anyway, I did get a call from another employee there and my glasses were ready two days early, which was only a one-day delay from the time I was originally quoted. When I returned to pick them up, the girl was super nice, complemented me on the frame choice, and adjusted them pretty well. She also gave me an extra case and called me "hon" a lot. Sure, you're paying designer prices, but that's because you're getting designer shades. They have a great selection of sunglasses too. Still beautiful eyewear here. But agree since new ownership it's all about sales. I bought buffalo horn frames close to 2K-(not including lenses) they became dull after a month and scratched. No offers for customer satisfaction or help to trade for new pair. 8 mo later lenses totally scratched asked to have lenses replaced which is why I have been buying here for past 18 years-told frames need to be shipped to GERMANY and will take up to THREE MONTHS!! Are you Kidding me!? I was then asked to buy a back up pair of glasses! Never again shopping here! Will say Optometrist inside store is very good and accurate. I don't work for Opticians 3. Anyone who has read ANY of my reviews knows that I am quite meticulous and am EXTREMELY judicious when writing a review. That said... I have been a patron of Opticians 3 since, 2001! I live in NORTH ANDOVER, work in Seabrook, NH and travel all over the world. I get my eye exam somewhere else, but Opticians 3 is the ONLY business in MA that I rely on to make my spectacles! I am tremendously selective when considering ANY business that receives my permanent support! I vote with my money and my time! Cost is relevant to each individual. As for me, I consider cost a reflection of the service and experience that is rendered. If your service and price are lackluster or not inline with superior service, then I will rate you fervently. If I believe the service/experience that I received outweighs the cost, then you receive Diamonds not stars! Opticians 3, is a 5 Diamond service/experience and cost provider! I would not patronage a service for more than 7 years if they did not exceed my expectations EVERY time I request their services! I am ALWAYS shocked by the stellar level of service and attentiveness of ANY and ALL employees of Opticians 3. Opticians 3 has consistently provided a "Four Season's experience" on every visit to their establishment! All I have to say regarding this company and the owners (brothers) is that if you have shallow pockets and that is all you are concerned with, shop elsewhere! You will spend some $$ in here but the staff is excellent; their offerings are plentiful and they won't let you leave until you're 100% satisfied. This happened to me - I bought some glasses and after wearing them for over 2 weeks, I decided they just weren't right. Zhanna (sp?) and Rich were totally accommodating in helping me figure out a better plan and now I'm just waiting for my replacements to be done. How many places let you return prescription eyeglasses for different ones? I know Warby Parker does but they couldn't get my scrip right nor did they have many options to choose from. This review is for Opticians 3 located in Chestnut Hill. I wear Definity lenses and called to get a price for progressive lenses. I was quoted a price of $800. I commented that I did not remember paying that much when I purchased them before and said I would get back to them. I called several other opticians and not many carry Definity lenses. I finally located another optical shop that does; they quoted a price of $600 for the same Definity progressives made of the same material. It is disgraceful to overcharge by $200.00! I have puchased frames and lenses at Opticians 3 in the Chestnut Hill shop and have brought them customers. I will never shop there again and will tell others about their unethical pricing. I expect there to be price differences between optical shops but not gouging like this. read more

Opticians 3 Watertown is closed... go to Chestnut Hill or Newton. I took my sister to the Newton one and she got really good service and funky glasses. They have a nice selection of you guessed it... funky frames and they really know how to fit them to your face and head... I know it does not sound glamorous, but it's important! There are three owners and they each work one of the shops. At the two shops I've been to they were patient and really helped recommend the best frames for my/my sister's face. I'm going back in a month or two to get this year's new pair. read more

I've bought glasses in NYC, SF, LA, Cambridge, and Singapore. Opticians 3 is the best by far. They did such a great job on my last pair I went back to try to make the exact same pair after my prescription changed. I've never done that. The template didn't exist, but they figured out a solution. There was a glitch in the order but it was handled professionally and courteously. BTW the in-house optometrist is also terrific. She is thorough, knowledgeable, and precise. She's one of those persons that found her calling. You can tell she loves her job. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Opticians three for 12 years. In the past year there was a full turnover of staff and I wasn't sure I'd continue going there until I met Erika Lafontant. I purchased a new frame and upgraded my lenses 2 months ago and was very unhappy with the way the frame set on my nose and the way the frame kept needing adjustment. When I returned a 3rd time for re-adjusting those frames Erika assisted me and after much deliberation we decided a new frame was in order. It was a friendly exchange and the result is a well-suited, comfortable pair of lovely glasses. I've used Opticians 3 ever since I first had to get glasses a few years ago. They are pricey, but I thought they were worth it. When I went in initially, they were wonderful--excellent customer service, great selection of unique frames, and nice atmosphere. I went back last week to have my prescription updated. Unfortunately, my experience with Opticians 3 was not nearly as positive as my experience was a few years ago. The sales people were incredible rude, they completely ignored me. And when I politely tried to get someone to help me, they actually told me "I'm sorry, you'll have to wait". I'd never seen such "tunnel visioned" sales people before who could not multi-task enough to handle more than one customer at a time. It was something as simple as saying to one customer, "Why don't you see how you like these next 8 frames while I check up on this customer..." I also ordered a different shape of lens for my rimless glasses, I drove all the way down from a northern town, and they had cut the wrong shape in the glasses. I asked them to reorder the lenses and do it right (after all, the order form was correctly written for the shape I'd ordered). But the sales person didn't apologize or even offer to do it right. He was like "Well, you had this shape before, why don't just take these..." Overall, I'm really disappointed. I spoke with the owner of Opticians 3 today, but he was only slightly concerned. There was no apology or overwhelming sense of concern. I'm going to pick up my glasses for the second time tonight. They didn't call to tell me that they were ready, so I had to call them... I just needed a new nosepad, but still...Lenscrafters would have charged me a fiver no doubt. The service here is impeccable. I came here with a friend who needed a pair of sunglasses after losing his "I'm-still-in-8th grade" Oakleys at a Red Sox game. They carry Mosley Tribes in the latest styles which is impressive considering very few stores carry that strain of the Oliver People's brand (they made Brad Pitt's sunglasses in Mr. and Mrs. Smith). My friend liked the glasses but wanted different shades so they custom ordered them and since he couldn't seem to part with the idea of his staple Oakleys, he got those as well. They even worked in a little discount considering the large purchase and everyone was happy. I loved how the salesman was so OCD with the lenses of all the sunglasses my friend tried on, each one he'd just perpetually wipe. And pair after pair, he never tired. I have never in written a review on yelp but after this experience I felt I had too. I was in a couple of weeks ago and chose a pair of frames working with two sales associates who were great. Because the store doesn't accept my insurance I went in today to purchase the frames and was planning on having my optician fill them. I understood that they won't guarantee the frames and was told there was no manufacturers warranty on them as soon as I left the store. After a brief conversation where I was trying to make sense of this I was told that the frame and lenses would be completely covered if I bought everything from them. When I said that they didn't really make that option cost effective for me, I was then told how they didn't really need my business. I was then told that the selection of frames is very exclusive and that my business (or business like mine) is not really necessary. Keep in mind, not once did I ask for a discount or anything of that kind. The gentleman I spoke to was arrogant, rude and overall less than charming. I have always thought that Vizio had the corner of the fashion hungry eyeglass frames. But, no. They do not. I was floored when I went into Opticians3 at Chestnut Hill Mall. Marlen waited on me and was as hospitable and customer friendly, knowledgeable and honest as anyone I have dealt with anywhere else. Customer service is outstanding here. Possibly the best of my life. They'll do anything for you, especially a person who's name I think is Rachael. I couldn't really buy from them because they don't work with the eye insurance I had at the time. They knew that but were still happy to help with anything, including ordering frames. Next time, I won't have that insurance and I'll definitely buy from Opticians 3. They also have the best selection of Lindberg frames in the Boston area. This was an amazing shop. Been going there for many years, since it opened and that is a long time. An amazing man had this store and he had a GREAT selection of frames. Service was top notch. The store was always clean and VERY professional. I have at least 5 pairs of glasses I purchased there over that time. Most frames cost 500.00 to 800.00 dollars with lenses. They had quality frames with spring hinges, and well - just quality. IF you look at most of the GOOD reviews here it is when the man owned the store... NOT recent. This store has changed and not for the best ! Now, that said... Dr. Noel is AMAZING !!! She is the BEST ! I have had bad eye exams in the past and originally went to her to correct them. She is just the best. I would HIGHLY recommend her. But, she also has an office in Newton... so I would opt to see her there. Go to see her and then RUN to another place to get your frames. NOW - I was in four months ago and left. The feel was totally different. It was a mess - cluttered, chairs out, frames all over the place - the display cases were dirty as was the floor. The staff, all women, one of whom was the new 'owner manager' - were cold, unfriendly and all business - make the sale. My spouse and I left. Yesterday, Saturday, June 24th I stopped in as I needed a repair to my glasses. Again, frames all over... the staff was disheveled, and just unprofessional. Again, the 'owner manager' was fitting a woman, an older lady with frames and the woman said it was pinching... the 'owner manager' went into the back, heated the arms (which you can see - the door was open) and came out, and the woman still complain. She said that they would relax, but that was the best she could do. She as dismissive and really not attentive. Most of the staff seemed really stressed. All the frames look the same... the look is now homogenized - mostly all plastic or acrylic and few if any had spring hingers on the arms. The cost remains about the same, but the quality and assortment had definitely gone downhill. When I asked about getting my glasses fix, the sales woman said, well, those look older and we don't carry that frame. That was that. We left, again, not to return. When you pay a lot for a frame and lenses you expect politeness, organization, cleanliness, and an assortment equal to the cost - a line of unique frames that are assorted. You also expect professionalism, now that doesn't mean what it used to - I know that. But people should be welcoming and not seemingly bitter or annoyed about doing what they have chosen to do. Take your money and go else-where and get two or three pair from the price of one there. AND be treated respectfully. This is not Chestnut Hill at its best... it is now about pushing the sale and supplying a deteriorating line of quality frames so you can up your profit margins. read more

Opticians 3 used to be our go-to place for prescription glasses. The retailer changed ownership, service is NOT what it used to be. My husband took in a pair of glasses that needed a nose piece replaced. They did not offer a fix, they wanted to sell him a new pair. All together my family has purchased at least 16 glasses from this retailer. NO MORE, looking for a new optician for my business. read more

I decided to look for some cool frames for my transition. This is my first online review. I just had to write a review for Opticians 3 in Newton. Well I can't say enough great things about this place. They took me that day for my exam. Very kind and courteous during the exam. The salesman that assisted me with my glasses was great. He knows his stuff! He fitted me with to great pair of frames (my choice I knew I wanted two different styles/color frames). They fit my face perfectly. I received many compliments. I was told by a friend I could have paid about one hundred less for each pair somewhere else. The service and knowledge at this place was worth every extra dollar. My glasses were ready the next day. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a selection of funky, in style, or designer frames. Amazing service!! read more

Other reviewers are right, the selection and service are great. The problem is they don't stand behind their merchandise. (you'll see various versions of this from some other reviewers). I bought a pair of expensive glasses and after a week the lenses fell out twice. I emailed the store twice and they never responded. I've since learned how to put the lenses back in (they fall out regularly) but the store should have stepped up to the plate instead of ignoring my problem. read more

I had an awful experience there. 2 times. My problem was that I was attracted by variety of frames. First time they sold me an irregular frame and I didn't noticed that first. Then I realized that my glasses didn't look horizontal. I was told that my face is not symmetrical that's why. Then I proved that the frame temples were on a different level. They had to re-order a frame when I insisted. Second problem happened day. I bought a very expensive frame a week ago and was exited to get my new glasses. I got absolutely unsymmetrical different size lenses. Who ever was working on my order he did a very bad job. He ruined my birthday present. I hate this place. I think I even know who did the damage. I am not big on writing reviews (esp negative ones), but after a second bad experience, I am too angry not to. The employees are quite nice but the owner is unethical and a crook. My father recently ordered a pair of frames from this store. They could not fill the lenses fast enough so he had to purchase them and then take the frames elsewhere to get lenses. Optician 3 broke the bridge of frames while the frames were in the store's possession and then told my father they were not under warranty so he was out of luck. They would not fix the frames so my father had to pay $68 to another shop to get them fixed before he could get the lenses made. It was the store's fault and they did nothing about it. I told my father not to go to this shop because the owner is dishonest, but the selection is great so my father didn't listen (and paid the price). My reason for boycotting them is because I had a bad experience when I bought prescription sunglasses there a few years ago. Before buying my sunglasses, I picked a pair that had curved lenses. I asked if I can make them prescription and they said I will have no problems. After everything was paid for and I tried the sunglasses on, I found out that the curved prescription lenses distorted my depth perception. I could not walk or drive with them, because I could not tell how close something was to my face. The owner denied guaranteeing that my lenses would be wearable and refused to refund my money. He offered to give me them as non-prescription glasses, which is worthless to someone like myself who did not wear contacts. I wasted $700 in cash on a pair of sunglasses that were worthless to me. Overall, the selection is great but the store will charge you for their mistakes. read more

I went to Opticians 3 on the recommendation of a friend who barely needs glasses. I have used progressive lenses for about 15 years and never had a problem. Opticians 3 (Felix) made a pair of glasses for me that I could not use. Felix attempted to make another pair for me and I still couldn't see out of them. THen, he had the audacity to sell me another pair of frames claiming that my original frames (which he suggested) weren't big enough. That was a failure too. I ultimately went back to Weston Optical in Wayland and that family owned business had no problem filling my prescription perfectly. DO NOT USE THIS ESTABLISHMENT. As far as I'm concerned Opticians 3 owes me for the glasses that their labs failed to grind properly. read more

I have gone to Opticians 3 in the past and then went elsewhere much to my great disappointment (SEE). Recently I was in a time crunch and needed an eye exam and to get glasses within a short time frame. I went on a Sunday made an appt for eye exams for both my daughter and I for the following Tuesday. Pretty darned quick. I expected somehow to get a crappy eye exam as it was in a mall. No sirree. Dr Noel was terrific. She was thorough and she helped me find contacts that I could wear that actually fit and are comfortable. All a bonus as I had given up on contacts. She is really kind and easy to deal with plus she has a cool machine that doesn't require dilation of your eyes to see inside during the exam. Plus! The selection of frames here is vast and the staff doesn't work on a commission so they are not shoving stuff at you just to get you to buy. They are all very low key and helpful. What more could you possibly ask. read more

I'd have to agree with some of the latest reviews - I bought glasses from the Chestnut Hill location about 4 years ago and had a perfectly fine experience. Went into the store last month to inquire that the anti-scratch/reflection coating on my lenses had started to 'wear' in spots, and was it possible to recoat the lenses. I was greeted with a scoff, and huffy attitude that it wasn't possible - as if I worked there and should have known the answer! Snooty and rude behavior to any potential customer, let alone someone who has done business with them! My impression is that service has gone downhill at this location. read more

BAD SERVICE, BAD TECHNICIAN, AND BAD ATTITUDE! I bought in my glasses for repair. After almost two weeks without getting any notification on whether or not the glasses were ready, I stopped by the store. The glasses were ready. The nice young lady at the front brought them out and ask me to try them on. I say they need a bit of adjustment. She brought in to the older gentlemen to adjust. The repaired frame broke somehow. He came out and angrily saying these are cheap frames they cannot be repaired. I was in shock. My titanium frame was just repaired by your shop and you broke it while adjusting and you came out to insult me and my frame?! Still in shock, I pointed out to him that your shop repaired it. Only then he started to back track about my "cheap" frame, and said the techs did not do a good job, and they would send it back. Not a word of apologizing for the substandard work the shop has done, and the poor customer service they have provided. The whole ordeal took more than 3 week, my payment and insulted by the people I paid. How would you rate this kind of store?! I would not even give one star! read more

The balding fellow is off putting and makes the experience less than what it should be considering the prices. This is a review for Dr. Terry Noel, the optometrist at Opticians 3 in Chestnut Hill. I don't typically write reviews, but want to put my experience on the official record. I am VERY particular about the professionals i deal with (some might even say "picky"!) and also very sensitive to a prescription that is even a little "off". Dr. Terry Noel is a GENIUS - she is the "prescription whisperer" in my book. Part optometrist, part psychologist, figuring out the technical information but, equally as important, knowing who she is dealing with and what their particular sensitivities or peculiarities are. She's also very kind and patient and doesn't even mind tweaking things shortly after you see her for a check-up. I highly recommend her for a newbie to eyeglasses, or for someone who has worn glasses forever and just needs a "tweak". And as a side note, Opticians 3 has great frame selections and the staff is very helpful and experienced (particularly Melanie!). read more
