The hybrid shop consisting of female clothing, gifts, jewelry, accessories and home decor has everything you need to make you smile on the day to day. For me, some standouts were the strappy leather sandals on display as you walk into the store. With different varieties of tan, black and brown leather straps all woven in different ways, you could likely find your staple summer shoe among this bunch. I did, but because I didn't have over $100 at my disposal, I had to wink and walk away... making promises to come back (that I hope I can keep). Toward the back of the shop (up the stair, careful not to trip), I found my second little love: Parisian thread bracelets. Made simply out of thick thread and metallic beads and finished with small pompoms, these bracelets are as sweet as they come, and fairly affordable at that. From the outside it looked liked it would just be collections of old tat with prices stuck on them, but everything in here has been carefully and tastefully chosen. The corner devoted to books is certainly a trip down memory lane as it features all those books I deemed to be magical when I was a youngster. Princesses, castles and classic illustrations were all that was needed to set my heart a-flutter. There are even vinyl audiobook versions of some of these old favourites, something I have never seen before! You'll even find a few more grown-up treats such as dainty cookbooks and a box of Penguin bookcover postcards, I've now mentally bookmarked this place for presents for any gal pal with a bit of a romantic-literary streak's up-and-coming Birthday.

Walking into a Peter Alexander store can be an overwhelming experience. The decor is totally OTT, and some of the designs are cloyingly cute. But that's the schtick: it's sweet, silly and oh so comfy. One year there were even Vegemite pjs on offer! For me, an full Peter Alexander pj set would be too much to take. But my friend gave me a delightfully garish pair of leopard/floral print (yes, apparently you can mix them) pants, and they do go awfully well with my simple old singlets.

What I adored about this store was the interior design. Look up and see plastered hands on the ceiling, the inside keys of a piano on the wall (the body acts as a cover for the cash register), quirky bird houses and paper puzzle deer heads and a giant flower peace sign make this a dear little store to wonder around and browse through.
