Don't expect top quality food here - we mostly come for the soup/salad bar, the cheesy bread, and the views. So we went to the Orange County Mining Company after other people told us how good it is and I was very impressed with the quality of the food and the service on the dinner side of the restaurant. We sat for about 5 minutes on the bar side looking at the Happy Hour menu and after being totally ignored and it wasn't busy so we went over to the dinner side and im really happy we did cause dinner was excellent. Been twice in the past month--once for dinner, and again for Sunday brunch. For the dinner, the soup and salad bars are more extensive than that for the brunch. To be fair, much more variety is available for the brunch--from the salad bars, to roast beef, ham, omelette bar, seafood bar and finally the dessert bar. For the dinner, the steaks were cooked perfectly for medium rare. Service both times was outstanding. You would be hard pressed to find a better view, particularly at night. read more

We had an event here early this week and it was fantastic! Service - the wait team really made this event great. They were attentive to every guest on refilling drinks, asking how the food was tasting and taking away the empty plates. They were also so nice and patient while guests were mingling and talking. Food - the price was so reasonable and the food tasted yummmmmmmy. I got the one pound prime rib and it was sooooo tasty. I had so much leftover that it was enough for lunch and dinner the next day. They also had an unlimited salad and soup bar which is so rare to have these days. Check out the pictures I took...trust me when I say it's delicious. Ambiance - the whole restaurant really blended well with their theme. The table that we sat at was repurposed from a tree and it was one piece and sat all 20 of us comfortably. Price: $46.99 adult and $19.99 child On this visit my aunt left her wallet and didn't notice until the next day. The salad bar is a nice touch. It's a salad bar you would find at soup plantation but the real stars are the soups. French Onion, Meat Chili, and Clam Chowder. All 3 piping hot and fresh. The prime rib is nothing to write home about. It's a serving you might find at Outback Steakhouse or Black Angus. The service left something to be desired as well. I sat down for a drink at the bar before my party was seated. I saw that it was happy hour so I asked for Jim Beam on the rocks. The bartender got me Jim Beam Black. It was a double pour but the price was $17. We sat on the patio. The waitress said we could head over to the self serve salad bar. It's awkward when you have to carry your bowl of hot soup through the restaurant and also open the door to the patio. The waitress was friendly but she really only took our order and then went MIA for most of the meal. It would have been nice if she offered to get us another drink or even refill our drinks. She came after we were done eating and offered desert and then I got a whiskey sour. The whiskey sour was the same price as the Jim Beam Black on the rocks. Would I come back here again? Yes. The food and service leave something to be desired but the overall value of the food is decent. I would not take a date or have an anniversary here but if you want to have a lowkey birthday dinner or relaxing meal with the family, this place is pretty good. read more

I recently stopped by OCMC for a date night after hearing good things about the food and location in general. First off the location is up this winding road which is VERY sketchy when there is more than one car. Take your time! Upon arriving the location hits all the marks with ambiance and we were welcomed by the staff before being taken to our table. The service was prompt and pleasant which of course is very nice. We ordered drinks, apps and our main. One thing I thought was very thoughtful was as I said we ordered apps and steaks for our mains. The apps were delivered and after some time the waiter came back and asked if we were ready for the to "fire" our steaks so they would be cooked right before they were brought to us. Very thoughtful. The food was delicious and we both were very happy with the experience overall. No doubt we will be back and recommending OMCM to all who ask. read more

Amazing Sunday brunch buffet!! Orange County Mining is our first buffet experience post pandemic. We made reservations for 4 people at 10am. We arrived around 9:50am as the parking lot was already filling up. We did see a valet stand but there wasn't anyone present so we parked our car ourselves. Upon checking in, we were able to tell the host which table we wanted which was outdoors with a view. We were immediately guided to a table in a secluded corner overlooking the OC and also beside the buffet door. We couldn't have asked for a better spot to be seated. The view was stunning and buffet access was the best. We immediately placed our drink orders and headed straight to the buffet to see their offerings. The main buffet room had crab legs, shrimp cocktail, waffles, bacon, sausage, ribs, pasta, Benedicts, chicken tenders, cold cuts, assorted cheese, smoked salmon, salads, and even a small dessert bar. I believe mimosas and champagne were unlimited, but I only went for orange juice. As for the buffet room on the other end of the restaurant, is the omelette and carving station. I ended up going to the omelette and carving station first. They offered prime rib at the carving station. The carver was extra generous and cut a thick slice of the prime rib. They had condiments on the side to pair with the prime rib. I went for the au jus. I also got an order of my omelette loaded with veggies, bacon and cheese. The omelette does take awhile to make so make sure to stand in line early if you want to have your omelette made. Some of my favorite items from the main buffet were the crab legs. They had clarified butter to go with it, but the crab legs were honestly salty enough on their own. I also really enjoyed the Benedict and the battered fries that sat with the chicken steak. I went for seconds for the prime rib and a couple of rounds for the crab legs. The prime rib was better the first time as it dried out a bit towards my second rounds. As for the desserts, the cream puffs and the chocolate fudge were absolutely delicious. I love that the desserts are bite-sized to keep you from overindulging. Also, the staff here are great. Everyone was very friendly and attentive towards us. Our drinks were always being refilled and our used plates were taken away swiftly after we finished. We couldn't have asked for a better brunch buffet experience. What's even better is that they offer a $5 discount per person if you dine before 10:30am! How cool is that? They have everything from crab legs, salads, hot breakfast foods, to Prime Rib and Omelet station. They have these stations spread out within two rooms so you do have to toggle between both. Unlimited mimosas - yes please! They do open at 10am. Suggest you make a reservation as it could get packed! Server was attentive and checked on us often. OCM has an amazing view of Orange. It sits high up on the side of the hill where one almost forgets the day to day grind while enjoying the evening with a cocktail in hand. The workers there are friendly and attentive. Same feeling as my first time going to OCM pre-Covid. The prime rib was delicious. Ordered medium-rare, And they brought it out perfectly medium-rare. There's many things I want to say but the big kicker is just that the ribeyes half our table ordered were a sore disappointment. They seemed cooked to order correctly but in no way even appeared to be a ribeye. One of our group, a butcher at a grocer half a decade ago was certain we were eating London broil or a top sirloin. Definitely no marbling nor tender cuts of meat. Everyone complained the ribeye was chewy regardless of how they ordered it (rare to medium well done). We had high hopes for Easter brunch here, but unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. To start, the tone was set at the door when we were directed--rather abruptly--to wait on the terrace. When it came time to be seated, we were brought to an outdoor table, despite having requested an indoor reservation. When I politely mentioned this, the host dismissed it with a curt, "We don't guarantee requests." Service from our actual waiter was the one bright spot--he was kind and tried his best--but the food and management decisions were a mess. The buffet food was cold and clearly low in quality. My omelet was completely raw in the middle. When I returned for another and asked that it be cooked more thoroughly, the chef responded with a sarcastic "You don't want it?"--not exactly the service you'd expect at a $50+ brunch. Trying to salvage the experience, I asked if I could order over-easy eggs. Our waiter kindly offered to check and came back to let us know eggs Benedict could be made to order instead. After waiting 45 minutes, he returned to inform us that management said they weren't making them after all--and the ones we were told were at the buffet weren't actually part of the brunch. It was a frustrating back-and-forth that made it clear there was zero communication between the kitchen and the front-of-house. Ironically, the best part of the brunch was the fruit and donuts--which we later learned were brought in from a donut shop down the street. Unfortunately, this brunch felt more like a disorganized cafeteria than a special holiday experience. We won't be returning. read more

Celebrating our one year marriage anniversary, we decided to go to dinner at a place that came highly recommended. Not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised by the total experience we had. The staff was friendly and attentive; congratulating us on our anniversary and going out of their way to make our evening even more special. The food and drinks were heavenly; and I don't use those words very often. Every piece of food, every drink we have felt and tasted like it was hand crafted especially for us lol. The ambience was perfect as we sat out on the patio so we could see the sunset in Northern Tustin. This review is for Christin, the event planner, and Alfredo who was my point person the day of our daughter's reception. My husband and I had our reception here 25 years ago, so I was familiar with the packages. I wasn't ready for Christin's attention to detail and her insistence on making our daughter's reception beyond perfect. We didn't have a wedding planner at the reception, but I quickly found out that we didn't need one. Alfredo was with me (wedding planner in name only) every step of the way! He was constantly checking on me and always available whenever I had questions or needed help...and we needed LOTS of help! Before the reception, I saw my brother and Alfredo chatting and they seemed to know each other. Turns out Alfredo worked at a restaurant back in the day, that my brother and his colleagues used to frequent. It just goes to show how Alfredo left a huge impression on my brother, and rightly so. He is so genuine and thoughtful. We had a delicious buffet, with carved prime rib and an open bar. If you don't want to incur a $3000 bar tab, I suggest beer and wine...but what fun is that??? If you're looking for a place to have your reception, with packages that have their recommended vendors (cake, flowers, photographer, dj, photobooth, etc...) I highly recommend Christin and Alfredo! Heard about the Orange County Mining Company for 1000 years and finally made it up here: really nice, really fun and has a bit of a Knotts Berry Farm feel to it, but that's OK.
