After a long search, my wife and I prayed about it, and God led us to North Metro. We've been a part of this church for 3+ years now. The greatest thing is that they seek to glorify God, teach and live the good news of Jesus Christ, and have a humble leadership team that listens to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. From a consumeristic side, yes, great facilities, organized worship, relevant teaching, great children's care, outreach, and pastoral services. But, the main thing is that they actually worship God first, then serve people second. This is rare among churches these days. May God bless us on our journey, being conformed into the image of Christ.

I must say that the pipe organ at the church is most impressive, sadly moreso than Pastor Hall's surmon. Here's why (not in order of importance): 1. Beautiful campus, esp., the main worship room. I've visited a lot of churches in my life: both old and new. Many old churches lack functionality/practicality. The modern ones, on the other hand, simply lack depth and theology of what a church building should be (and yes, there is theology of church building, or at least the main worship room). What's interesting about the main worship room at MPC is that it is a new building, yet feels old (in a wonderful sense). In fact, the church has a pamphlet to explain in details why they built the way they did. And that was very impressive. 2. The people who serve voluntarily. They all seemed to love the Lord, his church, and their minister. That's a sign of a healthy church. 3. Their senior minister, David Hall. It's a precious and rare commodity to find ministers that are pastor-scholar. That is perhaps one of the best gifts a church can have. Dr. Hall has written many valuable books, not only for the PCA but those of us that are outside of the denomination. His writing ministry has influenced beyond the walls of MPC, which I am a testimony. He truly exemplifies what a church statesman should look like. Not only Dr. Hall is a fine scholar and a statesman, but a personable pastor. And it's rare to find a man who can be a scholar and a personable pastor at the same time. I was impressed how he took time to meet everyone at the conference. That seldom happens at a conference, let alone at a big church. Hence, that shows that Dr. Hall cares for people, and he doesn't simply sit at the ivory tower that people can't reach. There are many other reasons, but due to time I must stop here. If you're looking for a church that genuinely wants to glorify God and to enjoy him forever, visit this church - not just once or twice (because you can't really judge a church based on a few visits). But spend time getting to know the church. If I live in the vicinity, I would do so in a heartbeat. But that's a bit difficult since I live in California. Besides, I have a group of God's people to shepherd.

They had a very favorable reviews, so I decided to try it out and it was the best decision I could've made. The preaching is the best I've had. The people are wonderful and if you're looking for a community to explore your spiritual growth or seeking to find out more spiritual growth come check it out. And if you wanna meet somebody, I'll be there greeting you at least there every other week if not every week.

I have never felt so many warm and loving people in a church body. Yes it's a large church- you must get involved in a group study to begin to feel a part of the "church body". But even if you don't get involved- God is in this place. We had to move to another state and visited many churches in the past 8 years. I have moved back now and am thankful for all of the pastors at FBA and for a loving body of believers. No one is perfect- that's why we need Jesus- but you are loved and accepted at FBA just the way you are.

Leading a congregation without an opinion is unrealistic, so this isn't a bad thing. Nothing here is remotely comparable to the intense racial, socioeconomic, or political narratives pushed in many predominantly Black churches in the Atlanta metro area. They are conservatives at First Baptist Atlanta, take it or leave it. The Experience: Friendly and accommodating. It features blue screens, spotlights, and a lecture style. They don't use screens and lighting the way Gen Z churches do--don't expect flashing lights or vibrant backgrounds.* Congregation: Very mindful, very demure. Think: "I'll take my tea in the sunroom." * Dress Code: Modest and reserved. Sundresses for women, suits for men.* Demographics: 80% Caucasian, 10% Asian, 7% people of color, 3% other.* Socioeconomic: ~80% upper 1% to upper-middle class.* Optics: Beautiful, large, well-landscaped campus. No one actually sits by the fountain; it is strictly for decoration. * Parking: Plenty of parking with extremely smooth exiting. Very impressive for a church this size. *Tip: The campus is huge, so keep a pair of flats handy if you wear heels.*Worship Experience: Fabulous orchestra and solid choir. However, the same four praise team members sing all the songs. The musical style is traditional, CCM, country, bluegrass, and purist. The Pastor has noted, "If you want to hear something different, listen to it in your car." It felt culturally insensitive and laced with an unsettling undertone, likely indicating a resistance to needed change. Leadership & Staff: Institutionalized monoculture and homosocial reproduction. Baby boomers make up over 80% of the demographic. Millennials are rising but lack representation and mostly end up leaving. Family & Children: Children and college students are separated into their own ministries away from the general congregation. You rarely see them outside of designated "Family Night" outings. It feels like a 55+ community where you never see the kids or parents. I have never seen a single child held by a parent during the main service.Pastor: Friendly, patient, and a good listener (or a great actor). He is feisty from the pulpit with sound Biblical teaching, though leadership limitations and a lack of authority are noticeable at times.Areas of Concern: All groups with clergy of color are placed in low-visibility areas. Sunday ministers, guests, and performers are never people of color. Furthermore, it seems no one outside of fellow Mississippians gets new staff positions, which is puzzling given Mississippi's reputation regarding racial disparity. The same three "favorites" always stand in for the pastor. Why is there no rotation among so many qualified individuals? "Rick" (the guy always walking around with his blonde wife) can really preach, and Donna is the chef's kiss! Atlanta is full of gifted, anointed people from all walks of life. If heaven looks like all of us, why doesn't it look and sound like that here? Dr. Stanley found a way to balance diversity in this congregation. It is unclear how or why that came undone, but comparing old videos of the congregation to now is very telling.

Facing the Sanctuary there are designated handicap parking spaces, but facing Lower Roswell there is a blue curb that states Handicap parking only Wednesday and Sunday. I have noticed on Sunday morning vehicles with no handicap plates or placard in both of these spaces which leaves no parking for those who do have the handicap symbols. I have seen choir members and others run out to their car then back inside. This isn't very nice or Christian to those who need these parking spaces. Before Covid these parking places were checked. A note was placed on vehicles that didn't have handicap plates or placards on the mirror even if forgotten. People should be honest about where they park especially if they are going to church. Don't you think?

I have never really been a church-going person. I have attended a few places before and have…read moreoccasionally even enjoyed it, but nowhere that I really found to be "home". Many years ago, when I was a kid, I used to come to Emerson. At the time, they were in a little white church building over off of Holly Springs Road. I don't remember much of what all I did there, but I do have vivid memories of a May Pole one spring and easter egg hunts and other assorted fun times over there. But before too many years had gone by, my family stopped going. Fast forward to about 4.5 years ago, shortly after my wife got pregnant with our daughter. A friend of hers wanted us to come join her at her church, and I wasn't overly opposed, so we went. On our way there, we drove down the same roads that I remembered as a kid to that same little white church. I was floored! I knew this place! I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I agreed to go in and try it out. We headed in and were immediately welcomed by my wife's friend and quickly introduced to a new group of what would later become good friends themselves. Four years later, following a move of the church itself, we now call home a large white building on Canton Road just a little south of Shallowford. My family could not be happier with our church and friends therein. As a church, we collectively believe that "We need not think alike to love alike". We believe in the inherent worth of all people and in the need to protect our world. There's a lot more of this than I can say here, but I recommend that you not take my word for it. Come on out and say hi one Sunday. Come join us and find out why I love our vibrant community of individuals.

I started attending services and then the Men's group, and now it's become a big part of my life. All are welcome at Emerson. You can be who you are and believe what you believe. There's a wonderful choir, book group, Buddhist group, men's group, a variety of social justice groups, and listening circles-- the thriving small group ministry, so there are lots of things to do beyond the Sunday service.
