Dale and Honey Bee Anderson, the owners of the gorgeous lake-front property just outside of downtown Juneau, know how to run the perfect B&B. This was my husband's and my first B&B experience, so we were nervous about feeling like we were staying in a stranger's home. This was unnecessary--Dale made us feel like we were a part of the family. He and his extended family run the B&B together, and they really think of everything, from the continental breakfast (Dale was kind enough to even pack us a breakfast/lunch for our day's adventures at our request), down to our room's amenities. They even provide a computer for complimentary Internet access, plus a canoe if you'd like to row out to the middle of the lake for a relaxing picnic! The house is beautiful and very clean. Our room was the gorgeous Lakeside Suite, which afforded us sweeping views of the lake and mountain in the distance. The rate was incredibly reasonable at $135 per night. My husband and I had a fantastic time at the Auke Lake B&B, and we'll certainly be back again!

The venue itself is rich with history, which adds a lot of character to the place. The bartenders were all friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The convenience of the location simply does not outweigh the poor hospitality and lack of customer care we experienced. I normally enjoy supporting small independent businesses like this one, but this stay has made me seriously rethink where I choose to spend my money going forward. Having stayed in both luxury hotels and unique properties with character, I know that basic professionalism and genuine guest care should be standard regardless of price or style. Disliked · Upon our arrival to this property we made our way to our room only to discover it was not the Family Loft with two queen beds we had specifically booked. Instead, we were given a room with one queen bed and a pull-out couch. When I returned to the front desk, I was told the booked room was occupied by a long-term tenant and unavailable. While I understand availability issues can arise, the hotel had been in direct contact with me through the booking platform's messaging system prior to our arrival and never mentioned this problem. It appeared they chose not to inform us, likely to prevent us from canceling. The pull-out couch was in poor condition, making it impossible for our adult family member to get a decent night's sleep. The queen bed was also uncomfortable, with our feet elevated in an awkward position. The window was broken and OPEN at least 2 inches. We did not expect a luxury resort, but we did expect the room type we reserved. Most concerning was the staff's response. Rather than showing empathy or offering solutions, they became defensive, blaming the booking company and stating the room had been unavailable for weeks. Since I booked December 6th, this lack of notification wasted our time and created unnecessary inconvenience. I politely requested compensation for just one night due to the inconvenience, which I believe was more than reasonable. Unfortunately, the hotel made no effort to resolve the situation or make things right despite my several follow-ups. Prospective guests should be aware: while the location may seem convenient, the poor communication, room inaccuracies, and indifferent customer service made this a frustrating experience we would not repeat. To make matters worse, the hotel was crazy loud until 3am due to the bar adjacent to the property, making rest nearly impossible. We will be visiting Juneau several times a year in the coming years with August 2026 being our next stay, sadly we cannot support this small business.

We choose Beachside Villa because of it's great location and awesome views. Our room, the penthouse, had a private porch, which I love for being outside with a glass of wine in the evening. It also had this fabulous tub which 2 people can get in, so that was fun! The tub ended up being a real blessing because we were doing so much every day that we needed to soak sore muscles! There was also lots of nice hot beverages in the room.

The lodge is small but that's what makes it so awesome. No more than 40 people there at a time. Family style dinner served in the lodge offering grilled salmon was delicious. The herb biscuits were wow. Got the recipe to make later. Got a visit from the local bear, Hans. He sat in the tree by the grill patiently waiting until we all went inside and was allowed to climb down. Had a small souvenir shop and a short trail walk if you chose to do so. Lodge overlooked the Taku glacier. Awesome place. Flight back was a little shorter but offered different views and more flyovers of different glaciers. Highly recommend.

Fresh grilled salmon & lots of sides including homemade biscuits & bread. It was very tasty & you could tell they cook with love. I loved there was a fire going & lots to see at the lodge. It was so quiet & relaxing. The lodge workers were so nice & inviting. The pilots were very friendly & they had a nice narrated tour on the way to the lodge & back. Our boat had a total of 6 people and there was plenty of room on the back of the boat for us all to fish. The captain and his mate (a golden retriever named Cyrus) were great. The captain in conjunction with their two other boats in the area did a great job keeping us on the fish. We had a blast and caught 15 halibut between the 3 of us and 31 total on the boat, the biggest being a 32" 15-16lb halibut that we sent home for a few nice dinners. The trip was great and would highly recommend these guys if you are in the area. Just be aware, the fish shipping company (an outside company) is quite expensive to ship fish back home, but they were extremely convenient to use and did provide great customer service.

Allen Marine Tours was fantastic. The boat picked us up directly from the ship as we were leaving Juneau around 1pm, and brought us back around 6pm. That really extended the day in a nice way. The boat moved at a relaxed pace through Stephen's Passage and into the Endicott Arm. The weather was glorious, something money can't buy! The scenery as we passed miles of coniferous rainforest and snow covered peaks was absolutely incredible. So calm and quiet, we never saw a single cabin or human on the shore. I felt so relaxed I napped twice. The guides were energetic and friendly, and very knowledgable. They interacted warmly with the guests, took pictures and answered every single question. They weren't in a hurry. When two bears were spotted, they stopped the boat for several minutes. The onboard snacks were actually -- dare I say it -- inexpensive! The crew provided coffee and hot chocolate free of charge, as well as warm donut holes. We spent a substantial amount of time up close to the glacier, probably close to an hour. We saw it calve several times. It's so massive and gorgeous, you don't understand the scale until you're close to it. Overall, worth every penny. Allen Tours made it special, relaxed, warm and memorable. It was the highlight of our trip.

Easy transport to the Mendenhall Glacier though the entrance was very busy with 6 cruise ships in port that day. Short walk to the visitor center, watch your time closely if doing a hike into the park, we had 4 guests not returning to our bus can only hope they used a related bus at departure time for the transfer to Statter Harbor. Not exactly a retreat into nature because of the crowds but still a nice stop. Not a long drive to Auke Bay, Statter Harbor and our transfer to the Whale Watching Boats. My excursion was on May 5th, weather was dry, and mostly clear. Complimentary warm beverages, and some nibbles were provided, plus other food and beverages for purchase, clean bathrooms, and sheltered seating on decks 1 and 2. Found my insulated jacket, gloves, and binoculars all useful, but even being sheltered it was cold on deck 2. The binoculars were helpful to view the humpbacks that we sighted, but so was the gps of my phone to know where the boat was in relationship to its surroundings, we sailed up the Saginaw Channel. In my opinion the sailing component makes sense if you enjoy the idea of a cruising the channel, with marine sightings as a bonus. Overall a good experience with the crew proving insights into this area of Alaska during Whale Watching component. Got back to my cruise ship post normal dinner service, but the Encore extended buffet hours, and I grabbed some food via the Local / Pub.

The jet boat tour was cut short due to a MAYDAY broadcast and that's totally fine. However, when we got back to the dock, the land crew was not very coordinated or understanding. There were no apologies for the inconvenience. No one guided us to the bus for the glacier portion since we arrived early unexpectedly. One person from our group asked a female bus driver and her response was "If you didn't come with me then I'm not taking you." Not even a "Let me find out" or being helpful. It started well with the boat crew but not with the land crew.
