I think it's fun exploring and finding new hair dressers because you never know what you'll find, and hair dressers are such fun places to meet people. Setz in Wallasey Village is a great little locally owned business. You can get pretty much anything done here, and you are not likely to pay an arm and a leg like you might at some of the bigger hair dressers or the chains in big towns and cities.

Ok, it can be a little pricey sometimes, but goddammit I think it's worth every penny! The girls in the store in the Met Quarter are really nice, compared to some makeup counters in department stores where you can feel the girls counting your blemishes as they talk to you. There is one girl in particular whose name I don't know, but she is always nice to me and recognises me from my infrequent visits (MAC is a luxury I can only afford twice a year). They have all your details on file and probably a detailed record of every item of makeup I've ever bought, which is a bit scary but comes in useful when you run in all flustered doing last minute holiday shopping and you can't remember what shade of pink your favourite blusher is. They also do makeovers, mini makeovers and just generally help you with face-related things. A couple of years ago I was offered tickets to their new range launch at Christmas, and it was time well spent I reckon (although the models got to wear designer dresses and I was a bit jealous). Yes, I've just written this much about makeup, but if you're a guy the only way you can understand is by thinking about something you use every day and never want it to break or become useless. Like a phone. You want the best phone you can afford, right? Well girls want the best makeup they can afford. And without it we'd look and be a lot more scarier!!

The colours are just unbelievable, and it's a great place to pop into if you're looking for essentials like primer and toner. It's certainly not the cheapest of options, hence its location in the uber posh Met Quarter alongside the likes of Molton Brown and Kurt Geiger, but if you're after a high quality treat for your face then it's definitely a good place to pop into. Plus I've always found that with high end make-up - the likes of Mac, Urban Decay, Benefit - a little goes a long way, thereby it does actually end up being rather good value.

Established in the mid 70s Saks currently has over 100 stores in the UK including this one in Liverpool and claims to be one of the leading names in hair and beauty in the UK today....... Is that so??!!! Oh please..... give me a break, it seems every business these days lays claim to something or another. We were voted this by that.....blablablabla sorry mlove the best vote of confidence you can get is by every single consumer that leaves that door!!! As is the done thing these days the simple art of cutting hair has been dressed up as if it was some sort of a surgery, with a pre cut consultation. As much as the media would report to us all however thank God we don't live in shallow minded image concious times. Thank God capitalism hasn't taken over our lives completely just yet. Thank God people aren't looked down upon because their hair wasn't styled by the right stylist. This by no means is envious banter, sulking at the cost of a hair cut at Saks (£30+ subject to a plethora of different offers they have on) just observation...mere observation. Fact of the matter is given time a dedicated person will always form a niche specialist market in their respective sector. Hairstyling is such a sector. It is totally reasonable and acceptable that while some people like chocolate and some like gadgets, some like hair and styling it in creative ways as a form of expression. I get it!! If you are such a person than Saks is for you, and they are good. I gave it a try and must admit it was a painless experiance. A friend recommended me thus I arrived armed with a £10 voucher. Normally a standard cut and finish will set you back between £30-£40 depending on which stylist you go for. For majority of people especially men it is still bit steep at around the £35 mark. The service is good though and once in a blue moon I'd recommend it otherwise, I suggest you crack open barbershop laugh untill you cry at Tim Story's 2002 master piece avec Ice Cube / Cedric entertainer.... and in the end....go to your own local barber shop!!
