They are highly skilled in mind-fuckery. They move you from room to room for no reason, keep the temp just high enough to not kill, keep information about you from you, and treat you as if you've already been convicted. I'm not sure who sucks more--corrections officers or police officers. And you better not question their authority. If you do, you'll end up all by yourself in a cold room with an extended stay. All this, for a charge that was ultimately dropped. Fuck I hate cops. As for the courthouse, those of us who can, in the courts eyes, afford to hire our own lawyer will waste tons of money because 90% of your court appearances will last no longer than 5 minutes. How much do you think a real lawyer will charge for this? Waste of goddamn time and money. A lawyer once told me that Marion county is the second worst county in Oregon. I believe it.

In Salem for my birthday roadtrip, and wanted to do local things. It's the oldest structure on the Mall, and looks great for its age. The experience did not disappoint! After going through security, I approached the beautiful staircase. Hanging glass sculptures of feathers went up each side, leading to glass wings on the third landing. I peeked into the law library and that's when the education began. Emily, the Lawyer/Librarian who gave me a most excellent behind the scenes tour, made it quite memorable. From the architecture to an intricately carved donated wooden chest, to the women and men making a difference in Oregon's politics, I learned so much. Seeing the handwritten notes inside the Courtroom drawers was a highlight. This visit absolutely made up for missing the tower tour at the Capital Building. I can go back when construction is finished.

I was…read moreprepared to take names this time if ill-treated, but the male supervisor and female clerk I dealt with were efficient, civil and empathetic. I was impressed with the supervisor: he came out to us when we were standing in the queue waiting for the office to open and gave a brief explanation of the protocols, then when we were seated inside, waiting for our numbers to be called, he approached each one of us individually and customized his advice to our reason for being there.

Last month dropped in to register new vehicle, 3 hour wait time. Extremely inefficient.
