There were also dozens of places to take photos with Halloween wooden cutouts. The animals were all friendly and we took a ton of photos. We especially loved the petting zoo as the animals wanted to be pet. The kids did an archeological "dig" and enjoyed the roaming peacocks. There was a lot to do there and we spent several hours enjoying our trip. Here are a few of our photos.

We wandered around mostly watching the peacock. Apparently there was an incident with the big cats, so they were...no longer with us. The "petting" area was lackluster and downright confusing, although the goats were so sweet. Loved seeing the orangutans and spider monkeys, poor things. The splash pad was also down the day we were there.

Driving from Fort Collins to Rapid City, my family was fortunate to add this Oregon Trail stop on…read morethe way. The park rangers at this monument are awesome and truly care about its history. If you can add this in with your travels, you won't be upset. I wouldn't go way out of my way to visit, but if you can add it to your itinerary with a less than annoying drive deviation, it is fantastic. Side note, it was raining the day I went. I drove up to the top but couldn't see the view due to the weather. But, I could tell, on a nice day, it would be amazing. Lots of history here. Enjoy!

Call Your Bluff…read more Protected National Monument site that's over 3k-acres and is situated west of Gering, Nebraska. We visited here almost eight years ago on our epic road trip across the US, and I can't believe I forgot to review this place. The Good: *The bluff is an important landmark on the Oregon Trail and there's an Oregon Trail Museum at the base of the bluff. *There's a windy 1.6-mile drive up the Summit Rd to get to the top of Scotts Bluff. There were quite a few cars (the park draws in 100k visitors a year) in front of us, if I remember correctly. But I don't think it took that long to get to the top, because even if it did there some superb views along the way up. *Leashed pets are OK on trails *Free! The Meh: *Only four miles of hikable trails The Ugly: *I wish we had more time to explore and hike the trails, but we had a schedule to keep. Next time, Gadget! Conclusion: Great park that's worth a 1hr detour if you're headed along on this stretch of 80.

Visually, this is an incredibly beautiful place. And it was once a very quiet/peaceful/relatively…read morenatural one too. That's until the geniuses at Nebraska Game & Parks decide to install an ugly, noisy, multi-station "shooting range" in this once-beautiful park. Now, most times it's pleasant enough for visitors to want to find a little peace and quiet and enjoy some nature, you'll be treated instead to loud volleys of gunfire echoing through the the Wildcat Hills (including nearby public land parcels Buffalo Creek and Montz Ranch). The Nature Center was expanded at the same time as the "shooting complex" was installed, which is fortunate, since that is likely the only place you'll see much "nature" amidst the noise. The "shooting range" is only several hundred *feet* from the Nature Center, so have fun enjoying the "natural" noise as you take in the views. Big ugly berms now block views to the south from the park road...presumably to prevent stray gunfire from hitting vehicles. Thinking of enjoying some nice peaceful camping? The prevailing winds and sound-amplifying effects of the Hills means you'll be "enjoying" the gunfire from any of the park's designated camping areas. So put on some noise-canceling headphones, maybe with an app that plays some "natural" sounds, and enjoy your visit. Or keep driving and spend your tourist dollars on a place where the interests of a few (but very noisy) "shooters" don't outweigh those of the many.

I take medication for arthritis, but find yoga is as effective for relieving stiffness, pain, and mobility problems. Lisa is a wonderful instructor. She encourages each person to not compare themselves with other people or the younger version of themselves. She offers guidance on how to achieve the correct pose. She also offers ways to modify the pose depending upon your skill level. While this is a beginner class, I feel people of all skill levels would find it worthwhile. Lisa's classes are truly worth attending.
