The train alone got my attention as we passed by during a business trip. We kept it in the back of our minds for our dinner plans. Since we were coming in for Hibachi, you can't exactly sit in the train, but we did walk through it. I may be simple-minded, but this was a unique experience based solely on the integrity of the train car. I was fascinated by it, but as far as the restaurant as a whole, it was decent. I felt that the hibachi itself was a little under-seasoned but they had this sauce on the side that made up for it. I'm not talking about the small bowl of the ginger concoction either. The food was just middle-of-the-road, but it filled our bellies and we were still able to chat with each other without yelling. read more

We loved the trains! It was so cool how each type of food (Chinese, sushi, habachi) each had their own entrance. We were shocked at how busy it was. My advice is to go early since it was a mad house in the parking lot and really hard to get a spot. We had Chinese food and it was really good. They had more than just the general selections with some good chefs specialties. The crab Rangoon was good and we really loved the green beans in black bean sauce. The favorite part of the meal was the general Tso which had enough heat without being overpowering. We will definitely be back! read more

This place is really delicious and the portion sizes are huge, it's our favorite hibachi spot in atlanta. The only downside is they don't start hibachi when they open, we went as they opened and you could only order sushi or Chinese. We wanted for 40 mins and no one ever came back after asking three different people for a table. I suggest you go after they've been open a hour or two to be sure hibachi is available. I've passed by this place sooooooo many times over the years and I finally tried it Saturday night. I have no clue why it took me so long because it was freakin awesome. My friend and I met up for dinner Saturday night and she chose Orient Express. The parking lot is a little tight, but luckily some customers were leaving and we grabbed their spot. Upon entering the hostess seated up immediately and let me just say this, the customer service was excellent. We decided to sit on the regular side opposed to the sushi or hibachi side. My friend and I ordered several items and split them. I started with egg drop soup and she had the spring rolls. We had shrimp fried rice, beef and broccoli, and General Tso's Chicken. Everything came out hot and perfectly timed. The serving size to me is pretty large and we both had enough for lunch the next day. We simply had a wonderful dinner. Total our meal was around $50 which was pretty good. The next day I heated my left overs up and it was even better. Again, I don't know why I've never been here but I know why I'll be returning. read more

The sushi pangs came on right before lunchtime the other day and I just had to find somewhere close and convenient to my pharmacy to alleviate this. This was my first time Orient Express and I ordered the Rock n' Roll and Spicy Tuna rolls for takeout. Their Rock n' Roll is interesting because they put eel and salmon skin in it instead of eel and avocado, which was fine by me. It was pretty good. However, I've definitely had better spicy tuna rolls and all they did with this one was chop up the tuna and mix is with aioli sauce and stick cucumber (blech) in it. The rolls came with 8 maki pieces each. I consider myself pretty thrifty and really didn't want to spend $19.02 on my lunch but I suppose that's what happens when the sushi monster takes over. Pricey. I'd definitely like to come back here and try some of their fancier rolls and maybe even the hibachi grill. Three stars for now. read more

I stopped going to Orient Express years ago due to cleanliness issues I witnessed, but decided to give it another try. I ordered delivery. They offer delivery (cheaper than using a food delivery service, if you're in their service area). I called to order (no online system). Paid via card. Cost is a little high, like most hibachi. Price was $30 for one plate. Pretty easy order. I ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi. The hibachi, Chinese, and sushi to choose from. The delivery arrived in good time. Delivery person was polite. The food overall was average. The fried rice and shrimp was good. The vegetables weren't as sautéed as I'm used to. You can tell the hibachi sauce was watered down. But the worse was my chicken. It was severely overlooked and tough. And they tried to hide it by putting more sauce on it. It was horrible. I couldn't eat it. Not sure if I'll go back... I say 4 stars b/c it's super close to my office, parking is ok, and.... it's a cute train to eat in! It's literally next door to the railroad. ... I also can only rate the Japanese side of the restaurant. When you walk in, you'll see 2 sides: Chinese & Japanese. The Chinese side looks normal and ok. I feel like the Japanese side is more fun and & cool to eat in. It looks more formal too. (not crazy formal, but a bit more business-y) Parking - I come here usually around 11:45AM on days I feel like coming. Right before Lunch hour. The lot is not THAT big nor THAT small...not too bad. There are other restaurants very close by so you can always park in their lots IF Orient Express's lot is full. Space - this place is huge. Like... wow. I thought it was small, but nope - it's fairly big. Definitely good place to go if it's lunch hour. They could probably seat you if you're at the peak hour. Service is nice. I've never had a problem with it. :D Some of my co workers have had the Chinese food here and it was mediocre. Kind of greasy and meh. I think my consultants I grab lunch with sometimes have said the same thing. Portions are generous, but eh. Quality is not the main goal here. I usually get the Chicken Teriyaki box here. I like it. I get good portions of the Chicken, Rice, Salad, and some slices of Sushi. OH and I get fried dumplings! So awesome. This is the 1st time I've gotten a Bento Box that includes fried dumplings. The Bento Box also comes with Miso Soup. Since my office is 6 mins away, I come here every 2-3 weeks. I'm sometimes just too lazy to drive to Dunwoody. This place has great food an amazing service. I just had a couple of issues on this visit. We came around 7pm and sat outside. The first thing is that I wanted to order a hibachi dinner and I was told there be an hour wait. That's fine, not a big deal. The second thing is that we had several bees/yellow jackets flying around us. Possibly because of the flowers/ garden area, but this is definitely an issue management needs to address or warn customers about. read more

I've tried a few Chinese restaurants here in Atlanta and Orient Express is on top of my list. I've been a regular here for the past 14 years and continue to bring friends and family here. They have a good variety of dishes and their portions are pretty big. Their ingredients are always fresh and I don't have to ask for light sauce since they put the right amount in their dishes. The Mongolian beef and chicken are my favourites and their hot and sour soup is always on point. My fried rice be hmmm hmmmm hmm good with some soy sauce on top if it! For the most part, the food be on point. Service - If I am going to a place for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time, I have to get a feel of when to go. First time I went here on a Friday night, PACKED! I have low tolerance for patience but somehow, I waited it out. The best time for me to go was mid to late afternoon on a Saturday and sat right down, no wait, no problems. The Orient Express features an amazing setting and we loved the concept of it. My husband and I sat in the sushi section of the restaurant. We arrived around 2 or 3 pm on a Wednesday and it was not busy at all. For drinks, I had the Georgia Peach Martini and my husband tried the apple cider local beer. We both enjoyed our drinks and would probably order again. We shared the Vinings special sushi appetizer which was amazing. We also had the north beach sushi roll and the atom bomb sushi. The price for all of that was well worth it and was not as high as I thought it would be. Highly recommend checking this place out! read more

Really liked this place! When I heard that it was an Asian restaurant in a train my first thought was "hmm I bet it won't be any good" and my second thought was "but I still want to go just for the experience!". So of course I had to have dinner here. I had sushi (eel roll and cucumber roll) and the sushi was beautifully rolled sushi and very delicious. There was even this bird carved out of a carrot stick next to our sushi which was quite impressive. The waitresses were nice and prompt with service and the prices were on par with what I would normally pay for sushi in Atlanta (10 for specialty rolls, 6 for smaller rolls like cucumber rolls). Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and would like to come back and visit! Egg drop soup - decent, but this is such a basic dish, so also nothing to brag about. Dumplings - bad. I had to throw the chicken, because I couldn't eat that. It smelled bad too. From the koi pond to the sound of nearby passing trains, it's definitely a neighborhood fave. Service: Ugh... service was a little underwhelming, however, that is not the norm in previous trips to the Orient Express. Decor: Love the buildings clever train theme. Food: 1st up was the Choo Choo Tray - lots of food & everything was delicious! I especially enjoyed chargrilling the ribs tabletop. I ordered the hibachi (reminiscing of my Benihana days) Shrimp & Salmon combo - both cooked perfectly & the order came out quickly, in fact, quicker than the rest of my party's food. I assume that was because we arrived an hour before closing time & the grills were turning off soon. My daughter (vegan) ordered a couple of sushi rolls and had no complaints. However, she warns against ordering the Fried Tofu with Special Sauce. Hubby ordered the Pad Thai which was good but a little too sweet & lacked a bit of savoriness. Bar: Not a huge selections of spirits but the basics are covered. I had a Riesling, poured to the exact 6 ounce mark & hubby drank a Manhattan. Orient Express is an interesting mix of hibachi, sushi, and Chinese cusine. I was craving sushi but some of my friends were craving hot food, so Orient Express seemed like a great wait to please everyone. The first thing I noticed was the staff to diners ratio was relatively high. Unfortunately, this led to poor coordination. Several people asked us what we wanted to drink within minutes of sitting down. No big deal, but then when we were ready to place orders there it seemed like no server claimed our table. We finally placed orders, and go figure someone else came to try to take our orders shortly after the first waiter. Then all the orders came out. Except for mine. Although the waiter remembered my order, the chef did not. Once my sushi combination arrived as everyone else was finishing theirs, it was good and fresh. Some of the freshest I've had in Atlanta. But by then I was so hungry I would eat anything. I'll probably try Orient Express again and see if it's worthy of another star or two. read more

I am seriously getting tired of spending $7-10 on mediocre workday lunches. The meal at Orient Express yesterday really takes the cake so far. It'd been a good number of years since I'd dined at Orient Express, but I remembered liking it just fine. I'd have expected a 3-ish star experience before yesterday. We were headed to Smyrna for the day and stopped for lunch about 2pm. Slow service, maybe because of the "down time" of day, but definitely sub-par. The only thing I ate that was good was the egg drop soup that came with my lunch Moo Goo Gai Pan. Some places have soup that's on the oily side, but OE's was light and brothy like it should be and they have the *good* kind of crunchies, not those hard stick-like ones. Otherwise, my meal was disappointing- undercooked/hard fried rice, and only about two snap peas with the chicken. There were lots of carrots and, of course, watercress, ugh. The chicken was flavorless. My dining companion got the chicken lo mein, and thought it was bland as well, with undercooked rice to go along with slightly greasy noodles. Coming in right at $10 with tip (lunch specials are about $7.95 for most dishes), I'd have been much happier next door at Figo. read more

Really enjoyed my experience here! Sat in the sushi section, ordered the miso soup, the gyoza, the kani sunomomo, and the Toro sashimi. Everything tasted great- the toro was sooo delicious it basically melted in my mouth. (In the photo you'll see that mine was topped with masago- I always add masago to any sushi/sashimi I order but it does not come with it unless you request it). The service was great, I had three or four different employees checking on me frequently. The atmosphere is relaxed and the music is nice and not too loud. When I moved to Atlanta 3 years ago, I drove by Orient express many times, never coming in as it seemed quite tiny from the outside. Don't be fooled! It's huge once you walk in with separate sections for Chinese, sushi, and habachi, and then there is the bar, the "wagon" train seating, and the patio. Now this is a restaurant I frequent quite often. It's close to my apartment, open 7 days a week, they have full bar, and do brown rice sushi (which is still hard to find in the Atlanta area). The service can be spotty, there is this one extremely rude server somehow still employed at this restaurant but my last visit on 7/18 was quite pleasant. We sat outside and had Jo Jo as our waiter who was very attentive, efficient, and polite. We ordered tuna tartare, one of my favorite apps here. The portion is generous and I love the black tobiko and quail egg topping. I usually get a brown rice roll and several sashimi orders to supplement it. They also have specials but they mostly have fried ingredients and I like my sushi raw. One of the best qualities I value the most about Orient express is the fact that they are willing to modify my rolls when I want to substitute or add items. On my many visits here I tried both sushi and habachi and was quite pleased with my dinner 90% of the time. The most frustrating thing is parking. The restaurant is quite busy 7 days a week and you may need to park across the street. read more
