Chicken with cashews had tasteless sauce, burnt cashews and celery with what looked like frozen peas and carrots. Ordered Chicken with Cashews and fried dumplings but what I got was boiled chicken slices with undercooked veggies, no sauce, no cashews. The fried pork dumplings were completely raw on the inside and burnt on the outside. I placed the order around 6:10pm, told itd be ready in 30-40minutes. Pleasantly surprised by this place. I hadn't had American Chinese in years so I tried this out. It's a full step above the other American Chinese places in the area. It's also a great deal. The combination plates are massive and enough for two people. Kung Pao was great, and the egg roll was surprisingly good with a thinner lightly fried wonton wrap. The food is great, except for the time there was actual metal in our dumplings -- apparently, we were the SECOND (!!!) people to call that night with metal in their food! WHAT?! After that, we stopped eating there for about a year. But, I've yet to find another local option that does chicken & broccoli or chef special fried rice as them, so I broke down. Now, we order from them every other month or so, and the food is consistently good. Anticipate orders taking 5-15 minutes longer than they quote... and, avoid the dumplings. read more

The food is horrible. Don't waste your time or money. We ordered the cashew chicken (zero seasoning, burned cashews) and the pupu platter that was a pile of deep fried garbage. I was told it came with rice but it did not. $40 later the 2 of us are still hungry and 90% of our order is in the compost bin. read more

This place wasn't terrible, I had Singapore noodle, egg rolls, and the teriyaki beef skewers. Singapore noodle was ok, nowhere near the best I've had, the egg rolls sucked, and beef skewers were pretty good, but nothing amazing. The reason this place got 2 stars instead of 3 was because the shrimp weren't deveined and made for a gritty experience I really didn't enjoy. My advice is you may want to look elsewhere. read more

Mr Customer Watch your Payment method. If you pay with Plastic and decide not to tip for say bad service, or attitude, or for any reason, clerk will automatically add a tip as I noticed account when checking on computer after I got home. Also Egg Roll has gone down to bad quality, Rice is not really good fried pork rice missing some ingredient's like , bean sprout, green onion, and a few other seasoning's. Sometimes wait times are excessive of course depends on how busy they are. This not real important but no lid if you want a cup of tea to go. I used to go to other Chinese Restaurant's and for some reason after a while they sem to cut corners and serve cheaper grades of foods. read more

I love Oriental Wok for that occasional " I don't want to cook tonight" dinner. My usual is Gen Tao's Chicken , fried rice, and an order of Crab Rangoon. Usually I can get dinner within an hour, and then re- portion to get three more dinners out of the order, around $18.00 for all that. It's economical and very good. When I'm in town and want Chineese, I usually visit Joyce's. However, a friend of mine insisted that we try Oriental Wok, so I relented and we placed an order. The menu was fairly typical for a Chineese Take-Out location, but I'm one of those that prefers consistency. I ordered Shrimp & Snow Peas and a side of Crab Rangoon. When we picked up our order and got home, I was plesantly suprised with the portion sizes and the quality of the food. The S&SP was bulging a large to-go container, the shrimp were large and plentiful, and the veggies were fresh and crisp. Also, the container of white rice that my meal came with was actually very tender and fluffy, instead of the compressed brick I've come to expect from take-out. They also included the fortune cookie, which many places don't do anymore. My only possible gripe (and quite minor) was the lack of chopsticks either in the bag or available at the counter. All in all, I was pleased with what I had recieved, and found the prices to be a little less than average. I will definitely be ordering from here again in the future. read more

Here is the low down on Oriental Wok. Their food is good, like really good for the fast food Chinese in the area. Their time estimate and their customer service? Awful. And I feel bad for the poor girl at the register because I'm sure she is lying to customers due to the owners telling her to. We have been going here for years and have always been really satisfied with the quality of the food. It isn't too oily or greasy, the portions are generous and it (used to be) always ready when we arrived or it was just a matter of minutes' wait. However, it seems that as they have gotten busier, they have not been increasing their number of employees or streamlined their system/process for orders, so now ordering take out from here is an absolute joke. For example (and mind you, this is about the 3rd or 4th consecutive time this has happened to us...) my husband or myself will call and place a take out order. They will tell us a time (sometimes 45 mins to an hour, which is fine, we understand they're popular). However, when we arrive, we pay before getting our food, but then the cashier says "it will be a couple minutes...we're just finishing your order" it is an absolute bold-faced lie. Consistently since this summer, after we have paid, it has taken at least another 45 minutes to an hour to get our order. This specifically happened to me and I believe multiple other people this past Sunday evening. The place was packed and everyone was waiting for a solid 30+ minutes from what I could tell. I asked as calmly as I could, what is the best way to order from here? Obviously, when we are given a time over the phone, it is not accurate. They didn't even pull our order to start working on it until I got there and paid for it (no lie, I watched her pull it for them to start it). I was told that maybe when we call we should tell them when we are going to be there to pick it up. I was infuriated as we have done this before and run into the same problem. So in the end, the food is good but ordering take out is an absolute joke. My family and I could have driven downtown, eaten at Single Pebble and come back to Essex in the 2 hours that it took for us to get a "take out" order from O. Wok. Shit, we could have just gone and sat down at Joyce's across the street and been home with time to spare. I don't believe there will be a next time for us with O.Wok, which is sad because we have really enjoyed the food. Again, the quality of the food has been good. We have had some mix ups with the orders lately (not this week) but we weren't missing meals, just wrong sides or rice, so it wasn't a deal breaker. But the joke of saying you're a take out place when it takes 2 full hours to get an order is the silliest thing I have ever heard. If you order from here, you are absolutely doing so at your own risk unless you have hours of your life to spare. Plan ahead before you get hangry. read more

This place is just meh, its chinese food, nothing special, nothing terrible. I went there on a whim and ordered a combo plate one evening. I waited 32 minutes for them to make a simple chicken finger, chicken wing & fried rice plate, totally unacceptable. The pork fried rice was very bland & kind of dry. There was not much flavor at all. The chicken wings were very well done and almost burnt and the chicken fingers were decent. The amount rice was mind boggling, it was 80% of the container! For the amount of food and price its okay. The staff was very nice and the place was clean, but given the very long wait time and bland food, I don't think I'll go back. read more

Excellent!! By far one of the best Chinese restaurants in Essex. Chinese is one of our favorite take-out options for a relaxing evening at home and this place always wins. We have been to every other Chinese restaurant in Essex and hands down this is the best. Sometimes the wait is a little longer than quoted but totally fresh food is worth the wait. After ordering food at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, I was told it would be ready for pickup in 20 minutes... though I gave it a half-hour, since they're notoriously bad with their "OK, that will be __ minutes" estimates. After 50 minutes, I asked at the counter if she knew how much longer it would be, and I was told (without apology) "The food will be ready when it's ready, sir!" After 55 minutes, I finally had my food (still without any kind of apology for being, at that point, 35 minutes late) and said goodbye to Oriental Wok for the last time. If, AT ANY POINT, the person at the register had said, "I'm very sorry. We got slammed unexpectedly. It's coming up now." or "I apologize, we had misplaced your order slip, and we're so sorry it's late!", I would have been fine. Of, better yet, if they had told me "It'll be ready in anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour for pickup", fine. Ironically, the woman at the counter had a t-shirt that said "Gratitude is always on trend." Had she shown any gratitude for the people who pay her paycheck, Oriental Wok wouldn't have lost a customer. read more

For Vermont it's not bad. Coming from Boston it's hard to find decent ethnic foods. These guys aren't bad at all.

Average. Definitely not the best and not the worst. I had the Hunan chicken combo. The roast pork fried rice was the best part of the dish which normally isn't saying much about the food but the fried rice was actually a 5/5 and the chicken just so so, thus the 3 star review evened out. I would opt to take out as the decor is pretty bad; they must put on the air conditioning! It's hot in there! Where are the really good Chinese restaurants in this area?!?! read more
