I hate waiting for breakfast, but it was coincidentally Father's Day so they get a pass and the wait was pretty much right what they quoted. Our server was friendly but flaky and it took a while to flag him down when we were ready to order (although he did put in the order for one of my companion's Dutch Baby when he took the drink order because we requested it start cooking - that thing can take 30 minutes!) But once we ordered, the food came out quickly. The kitchen got our easier meals out with my friend's Dutch Baby and everything was hot and fresh. The bacon was perfectly cooked and the banana brown sugar french toast was pretty good, as was the citrus sauce they provided with it. I do have a grip about the french toast. No one today expects service, prices, or quality to be the same as pre-pandemic, but this place wasn't that outstanding back then. Now it really has even lost the one thing that it had going for it which was reasonable breakfast/lunch food at reasonable prices. Looks like they automatically raised all prices higher by 20% to 30%. One little example is charging an additional $1.99 over the price of 1 regular egg. I think that is taking advantage of the inflation excuse. Considering the Coffee or Tea is never as hot as it should be and the syrup is watered down and the lack of friendliness of some of the servers there's no need to go back. read more

We live locally and went here for the first time. Breakfast was great and we'll definitely go back. We got there at 8.30am on a Saturday morning and we needed to wait about ten minutes for our table. Once we sat down we noticed the restaurant was less than half full, but they're short staffed so they stagger when they seat guests. Our waitress Kim was super attentive and helped us to navigate the large menu. I got the breakfast burrito which was really tasty, the home fries and hash browns were fresh, crispy and delicious. My husband got the eggs and bacon, we shared a French toast which was really good! We had three different pours of hot coffee and left feeling happy and satisfied. My family & I didn't have to wait long to be seated & the place is very spacious considering how many people were there. They have a great menu with a huge variety of foods. I had the steak & eggs, & the wheat pancakes with a cup of coffee. I also ate my family's left overs, the omelette was delicious! They sure hold on to the whipped cream like it's gold here. Never seen a place that won't provide a decent amount of whipped cream in a kids hot cocoa. The server actually said she could loose her job if she gives too big a portion. Sadly, I observed many food handlers with their fingers touching food on the plates (gross) I cut off the portion from mine. Some safe food handling reminders would go a long way here... Despite all this Service was very good and the food was ok. A bit overpriced relative to the portion size. I do think many of the menu items like the crepes and eggs benedict sound awesome; sadly they don't deliver the awesome. The food is relatively satisfying. It's a busy location too. Came here to have breakfast for dinner. Love this place. Their pancakes are rich and delicious. This evening we actually went with their Dutch style pancakes - Dutch baby and Apple baby. They were delicious! Dutch baby is basically a giant popover that is light, eggy, slightly sweet. It comes with powdered sugar and on the side more sugar, whipped butter and fresh lemons. Amazing! Apple baby is the Dutch baby with apples/sugar baked into it (picture apple pie filling). Of course, my daughter got that topped with ice cream. I believe the ice cream was homemade. The Original Pancake House sports a few unique menu options, but fails to deliver on its promises. All the food here comes in big portion sizes, and even then they still add on pancakes. Take the omelets for example, which can take up to 20 minutes to make because of the way they are cooked; they appear quite large and comes with a side of three pancakes for a little over $8. I'm not a fan of the omelets though, as the ratio of egg to whatever else you add in it is too much in favor of the egg, like 80:20. Skip the omelets and stick to one of their other dishes like pancakes or waffles. The eggs are also cooked weird, and the hash browns have no flavor whatsoever. The whipped cream here is made fresh, and excellent, I could just eat that as a meal. The price can be deceiving because almost everything comes with an additional side of pancakes, which boosts the cost. You get a good amount of food for the price, even though any add-ons will be up-charged. Whipped cream is almost always an up-charge, which is a sad way to to make a quick extra buck at the expense of the customer. This place is almost never empty and their is sometimes a bit of a wait here especially on the weekend, but it's usually not that long. As a result of the place being packed, the waitresses are a bit aloof to the needs of the customers. If you need something from your waitress, be sure to ask her when you see her, because you may not see her again. Not to say there service here is bad, but they could check up on the customers a tad bit more. Atmosphere here is also almost nonexistent, as they just have a bunch of booths and tables, and almost nothing on the walls to liven the place up and give it a sense of identity. All the windows add a ton of natural light that is nice, but other than that, there isn't really anything here to catch your eye. I can't say I'm in love with the food they serve here, or really anything here for that matter. Maybe if the prices were cheaper I'd be more inclined to enjoy Original Pancake House, but instead I have just contempt for here. So, problems: the coffee is HORRENDOUS, which is a big problem for a breakfast joint...but those sourdough pancakes are literally perfect, just perfect! Sadly, about 1/2 of the other breakfast items were once again mediocre to, in the case of the eggs florentine, poor. Fresh squeezed OJ gets a bump up... Mixed bag, once again. I am a HUGE fan of Original Pancake House - mostly for their delicious Dutch Baby pancakes. Basically its a puffy (almost like a collapsed soufflé) which you dress with lemons and powdered sugar. It is DELICIOUS although it takes up to 20 minutes to cook. Everything else I have had at this chain (in various locations) has been great. The apple pancake has a delicious caramelized apple crust and is also huge. Service here was good - although for a weekday it took a bit for the waitress to get around to us. It looked like she had WAY too many tables. The decor is 1980's wood paneling although it is not as endearing as the old-school california ones from the 50's. If you ever find yourself in Anaheim you MUST go to the OPH there for the true experience. The do serve dinner on select nights (call for details) which is rare for OPH and they also have a somewhat obnoxious sign at the entrance saying they reserve the right to ask you to leave after you have been seated for an hour on weekends. read more

We had a nice older lady serve us and offered us their freshly squeezed orange juice by pointing out the super cool machine they use. One of us was sold. I ordered the oven baked omelette - this thing is HUGE. I made my own with cheddar and bacon. It was tasty but could have been infused with a little more flavor. My bad though, I should have added grilled onions. My friend had chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon and her boyfriend had a chocolate (could have been nutella, not entirely sure) and strawberries with a side order of bacon. My friend could barely polish off three of her SIX pancakes and the crepe was done within minutes. The food was delicious and reasonably priced; however, the customer service was lacking. The nice older lady serving us was hard to track down and my water glass was always empty (I'm quite thirsty and I definitely need more than 2 midget size glasses of 3/4-filled ice water every meal). -1 star. In my numerous visits over the years, I have to begin with the disclaimer that the the timing of your visit and what you order can make a huge impact of your expectations and overall rating of this restaurant. I went with 4 family members at 7:45am on a Saturday and had no wait at all. However, we have also had experienced much longer wait times, especially as you get closer to 9am on a weekend. I've noticed there are often families with very small children, and the noise carries so it's not typically the quietest place. The overall atmosphere feels like your classic all-American diner. The baked omelette I ate was a unique twist for me (picture posted,) as it fluffs up and doesn't look like what you'd expect. Well cooked and delicious, but it was the only breakfast joint I've been to without Chalula hot sauce, which I usually douse my eggs in, so that was a let down (they do have Tabasco, though.) I've also had chocolate pecan pancakes here which are fantastic, and for years my family's favorite was the Dutch baby-- a unique "thin pancake" you cover with lemon and powdered sugar and won't see on a restaurant elsewhere. I only get the Baby Apple Pancake at the Pancake House, but not often because it is so fattening. Last week I was at the Boca location for lunch with friends and got it. So disappointed. Its middle of summer heat so people all crowding in the lobby to wait for their table. Of course makes sense the would ask some people to please wait outside despite the heat due to health covid precautions. Completely understand that. However instead of asking the people who had come in last to wait outside the host very rudely singled us out and asked no one else to wait outside. This was very strange and we politely asked why we were being singled out. Host did not give a reason and became rude. We decided to leave, no problem. Every time I come here I always love the service I get and food is great. Today I learned about an oven baked omelette. They only used 3 eggs for it but let me tell you it was like nothing I had ever seen. My wife said it was delicious and loved it. Their bacon was so savory, the perfect amount of crunch without being burnt. The Original waffle was so satisfying, crunchy but not over cooked, and still had that fluff you want on the inside of your waffle. The Original Pancake House deserves 5 stars! The three locations I go to are bright, spacious and very clean. The menu is diverse and up to date. I have found the food to always be first rate. The pancakes and waffles are far, far better than any other restaurant. Service has always been attentive, courteous and friendly. Special note: Their coffee is fantastic. I buy a pound of it every other time I visit OPH ($7). Pricing is actually very friendly and provides great value. There are specials for seniors as well.
