Thinner than Mexican-American style churros, less dense, and cooked through. The dipping chocolate really brought the buttery flavor of Churreria Avenida's recipe. Plus whatever oil is used tastes better than the best churro I've ever had in California aka Alto Mexico. The restaurant is in a small neighborhood not too far from Madrid's international airport. Quick friendly 5-minute service and I was jumping in my taxi for actual breakfast. I did my best to speak my rusty Spanish and they helped me the rest of the way. Thank you Avenida.

We didn't know it was a public holiday, so it was pretty overwhelming to consider where to navigate for a quick dinner and avoid the hassle. Because this spot popped up as a vegan option on Google Maps and was only a block away from our hotel, we figured that was enough for us to take a chance and try it. We were wrong. It started with the pretentious name which I believe translates to "Super cool". We weren't aware it portended a trendy menu of small fusion plates. The cafe is up on the second floor where they set it up as a kind of Garden of Eden with faux-trees and flowering branches. Service was a scarce commodity here because no one bothered to seat us or point out the QR code we were supposed to use to order. We eventually figured it out. Jamie went for a couple of items. The 6,9€ Mediterranean Toast was a bland piece of wheat baguette served with prosciutto, arugula, and feta cheese and drizzled with basil oil (Photo 7). The 4,9€ Tortilla Skewer didn't feature a skewer despite the name. Rather it was a thick, unadorned wedge of Spanish omelet placed between two slices of bread (Photo 8). That was it. My order was a little more interesting, at least in concept, the 10,9€ Italian Waffle. It was a rather chewy waffle covered with avocado, burrata, cured ham, mango, and cherry tomatoes (Photo 9). Nothing blew us away, in particular, the service which was practically non-existent. I had to search for a server just to pay our bill. Luckily, our subsequent stay in Madrid yielded some wonderful food and attentive service. Dining directly on the Gran Via can definitely be a dicey proposition. Super cool? More like super ignored. The food was good but it's not a place I would revisit just because the menu seemed limited. Not sure if it changes from lunch to dinner but I expected a lot more for the price. Also have to read the menu carefully if you're a vegan or inform the waiter that you want the vegan version or modify it to make it vegan as they serve dishes that are vegetarian too. Why?…read moreBecause it's stupid delicious, so if you wander out after 10am you may have a challenge on your hand to find a cafe that still has some. After a few clicks and having to walk in the rain we landed here. They have seating outside, I'm guessing for the smokers and a few feet away is the main entrance. My girls first comment after walking through the door was the chocolate smell that wafted in the air. Obviously churro and chocolate for my girl and myself a beer. The place had a few people sitting around but the place is fairly large so I'm sure you can find a seat during the busy hours. I couldn't find the wifi but also I forgot to ask. As usual my girl and I sat at the bar. So if your wandering around Madrid with no real plans stop in for a pint or some yummy churro and chocolate. Btw, my girl noticed a guy in the back making a fresh batch!

The menu is very limited but they have a menu del dia for €14, which is a great price. The beer is quite good and they have about 10 different styles and types. Their Imperial IPA pour is rich with a smooth intake that's slightly sweet followed by a very mild bitter finish. No overbearing piney or earthy taste. Just a superbly balanced beer. I also tried their lager, but I didn't get a second round. The bartenders were excellent and provided good service. To be honest, I enjoyed their Imperial enough to give my compliments to the brewer. Patatas and peanut mix were also a good pair to the beers. Just my thoughts, as someone who has consumed craft beers from across the United States. Check it out!

The espresso was not best, a bit too much water for my taste and lacked aroma, the mini chocolate croissant was just Ok, a bit dry and not soft and fluffy as good pastries should be, but is expectable, the price is cheap which makes it a good place for a quick breakfast or afternoon snack.
