Circle Jerk is the best two words that I can use to describe this place. Applied for an auto loan with them since I had heard that they offered lower rates than most banks. Was going to purchase a new 2026 Silverardo that cost $38,000 with $4000 rebates and $10,000 cash down from my hip pocket. The MSRP on the truck was around $44,000. So, this truck was one of the least expensive that you can buy. Have been on a federal government job for 25 plus years, make three figures, lived in the same house with a mortgage for 16 years, no bankruptcy, no tax liens, no charge offs etc. They come back with a rate of 5% which is too high but the rub was that they wanted proof of income. Have financed four vehicle loans in my life and NEVER provided proof of income. I told to stick their loan up their arse. I am not some bog. read more

I called Orion FCU and sat on hold for 21 minutes the first time and 16 minutes the second time, all for her to say she can't access my account "call back in 20 minutes." It's Friday, they close in 40 minutes. So if it isn't fixed, then what? This is really sad. No text, no social media post, nothing to let individuals know if there is an issue. Just refinanced with them but I completely regret my choice. This bank is stuck in 1990s without debut card processing on the web page or app, you'll have to physically call someone every single time you want to pay monthly unless you give them your other banking details to connect. Such an outdated system, either I wait 20min on hold just to ask someone for a link to pay with debit card or I have to give them my other bank details. Santander was WAY EASIER literally just 2 clicks and you're at the payment process. ORION banking needs severe updates. I would highly advise against this bank at all costs. I left because they kept giving my balance out to a tenant who routinely made deposits into my account. I spoke to management at 2 different locations and each time was assured that it would not happen again, yet it continued. The tenant made deposits from different locations and each deposit she would receive a receipt for her deposit with my balance attached. Thankfully she made me aware. TL/DR. Do not use this bank!! The Details. I am retired. Went to open an account with them as they were offering the best interest rate from a local bank (5% on first $10K in your checking account). Wife works and we live off her income. They wanted to know where money coming into the bank would come from and I said my wife's paycheck (a partial allocation of the paycheck) plus deposits from other bank accounts we have. Clerk could not seem to accept that and said she could not approve the account and would leave it to her manager to review. So I said I would wait. About 4 minutes later, clerk says manager is in a meeting and could I come back later. I asked her how long the meeting would last. I don't think the clerk responded. So I said I would wait. CLERK THEN INSTRUCTED THE SECURITY GUARD TO ESCORT ME OUT OF THE BUILDING. No yelling. No profanity. Nothing at all on my part or the teller. No I have never been asked to leave or escorted out of a business. Fortunately, I had spent that 4 minutes chatting with the security guard about tennis shoes and sororities so there was no hostility or bad feelings on my part towards him at all. He was just doing his job. This level of customer service is not substandard. It is below that level. But, rather than assuming there was some animus on the part of the clerk, my initial thought was "is this 5% offer effectively a scam that is only intended from customers who fit a certain profile?" No I am not referring to race or sex but customers who fit a certain financial profile. It could be that my credit score (800+) and other factors made it likely that I would easily meet the minimum requirements each month and earn the 5% rate. That, however, may not be what the bank is looking for. Maybe a call to headquarters would overcome whatever obstacles the bank saw. But even if they changed their mind, is this the type of organization you would want holding your money. My answer is NO!! I don't know of course what is actually going on within the bank but I found this entire interaction illogical and highly suspicious. As a member of Orion Federal Credit Union (formally MATCU) for as long as I have been old enough to have an account, I am EXTREMELY disappointed. A customer should be able to deposit a check, and have it put into their bank account within 48-72 hours (and that is TOO long). It has been FIVE DAYS since I deposited my check, and it has YET to clear. Yesterday, May 9, 2024, I spoke with two representatives who made me feel as if your new check holding policy is now a normal process. This is not normal. I was told we all received information last month. We did not receive any written communication about a new check holding policy; only to not give our PIN numbers out to people and expect them not to steal our money. I was told by a second representative that this is being done as a precaution due to scammers. I thought it was because I did the deposit process with my mobile app, but when I was informed that it wouldn't have mattered how I tried to deposit it, it still wouldn't be cleared, I became very concerned. He said that I could not have even taken the check to your branch in person and have it cashed, because it would still have to be cleared. EVEN if it were written from ANOTHER Orion FCU member. How on earth could it take five days to see if another Orion FCU member had sufficient funds in their account to clear a THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR CHECK. You can cash a check at a broke-down liquor store, but not at Orion FCU? NO authorization process should take an entire business week. I am a teacher and need EVERY dollar in my account WHEN I put it in. Not five days later. I missed a bill payment because of this! And then you had the audacity to charge me an overdraft fee almost a week after my deposit was put in, because you were unable to verify it in an acceptable amount of time. I also did not appreciate being told by the team member that my parents used the "slowest method possible" to give me money and they "SHOULD have just transferred the money electronically." My parents are from an older generation, and they write checks. They are the checks that you distributed to them, and they have that right. They can give me money in ANY way they see fit. I AM YOUR CUSTOMER. Your customers should come BEFORE scammers. This policy you are implementing is punishing people that DEPEND on every penny to pay bills. You are depriving me of my money for something that is out of MY control and is essentially not my problem. YOU are the financial institution. YOU are insured and have policies and procedures for these types of situations. If people are passing bad checks (which they have been doing for decades), then that needs to be dealt with on your end. It should not affect loyal customers. Things that need to be dealt with on MY end are paying the bills and feeding my family. I'm only able to do that if I can access ALL of the money that is put into my account in a timely fashion. I am a very kind, forgiving, and patient person, except for when it comes to my money. Stop playing with my money. Please figure this out and come up with a solution ASAP. Until then, I will be copying this to your public Facebook, Yelp, Google, Corporate, WREG, Action News 5, Fox 13 and literally anyone else who will allow me to do so. Your customers need to FULLY know and understand what you are doing here. Customer Service as a customer at various locations has been poor as a long time customer. I'm in the process of switching for this reason. The CU has repeatedly given tenants my account balance as they've made deposits. I've spoken with various branch managers & it continued over the course of months. The tenant was kind enough to text me my balances. I made changes to my accounts as far as transfers and some took effect & others didn't. The CU corrected with no apologies. I would not recommend Orion to any of my family or friends. read more

Don't do it! I am a teacher and had a membership with this credit union for over 10 years which included a car loan that I paid off. I closed my checking account but left my savings because it was drawing interest. When I went to withdraw the money, Orion said the account had been closed and gave no details as to why or where my money was. Three years later, I was contacted by the state of TN. Orion has tuned my money over to them as "unclaimed funds." Now, I can't get my money because my exhusband was listed as an "authorized user" (not an account holder), and he and I have a no-contact rule. (The state of TN wants him to sign a form giving me all of the money even though the account was only in my name.) So, I lost all of my money in savings because I didn't withdraw any of it for 2 years BECAUSE IT WAS COLLECTING INTEREST TOWARD THE DOWN PAYMENT ON A NEW CAR. These people are terrible. Plus, their online log-in is always having technical difficulties, so you will never have a consistent way to check your account statements. Run! Go to a real bank where your money will be FDIC insured. read more

Approved us for a fair interest rate had us jump through hoops for 5 days dealership in LA. Gave us every document they ask for advised them we were on a tight schedule because we were flying out of town to pickup vehicle. We live in Mississippi buying a vehicle in Louisiana they kept asking us for a title application, per the Mississippi tax assessor the lien is added to the paperwork when the tag is applied for had the finance manager sending all kinds of documents even on the bill of sale stating Orion was the lien holder. We are even putting a large amount down on the vehicle, gave us the run around on the phone with said dealer on the phone for 1.5 hours. I now see why their ratings are horrible, I will definitely go to every social media and rate them horrible. My advice find a more reputable credit union or bank STAY AWAY! read more

This institution is the very example of "bait and switch." I opened my checking account on November 15th, 2019 because Orion advertised a 4% APY on their Premium Checking. They have been advertising this rate for quite some time (I believe for a couple of years). There were two hoops to jump through. Deposit at least $500 a month electronically and use your debit card eight times a month. On December 1st, 2019 I received notice they were dropping the APY to 3%. In February 2020, I received notice that starting on April 1st they will be changing one of the hoops you had to jump through to receive the APY. Instead of eight debit card transactions per month. I now had to spend $500 a month with my debit card or Orion credit card. They also lowered the APY again - from 3% to 1%. That went into affect on March 1st, 2020. However, no notice was received. So, in three and half months they changed the terms three times. read more

This the Arkansas location was a great financial institution when it was the Arkansas employees federal credit union. Unfortunately they were merged or bought out by Orion based in Memphis. With a new company comes a new system and new way of doing things. The service suffered the most. The Memphis based staff were the hardest to deal with. The Arkansas office wasn't as bad cause they retained most of the old employees in the merger but the Orion System is still awful. My personal experience was calling customer service for answers and the person you reach not being able to help me or provide simple information. This along with the numerous times errors were made concerning my accounts proved to be too much. Often customer service would have to have someone call the customer back. It sounded like possibly teenagers or very inexperienced people were the first point of contact. I had way too many assets tied up in the institution for the errors that they made. I would get bad information that was inaccurate. I tried to close an account only to find it was still open. I was denied access to an account my name was on as a joint owner only because the person helping me didn't look thoroughly the first time. And when I cancel all my accounts no one asked me why. They could have cared less really which was surprising. Put your money here at your own peril, the first time you have to call in you will quickly see what I mean. When that happens hopefully you will post as I did and warn others. read more

I have been a member of this credit union for 11 years. Many of my colleagues who mostly are teachers have been members much longer. We have discussions about Orion. Now, I have requested financial literacy information which includes loans, cd's and other financial instruments on NUMEROUS occasions through the years and NO Assistance, no follow up. I believe it is because of the less than knowledgeable people Orion hires to serve customers. When I look at the definition of a credit union, it is a "Member Owned Financial Institution", where fees are lower and profits are in many different ways returned to the membership in the form of lower interest rates. This does not "appear" true. Orion balance sheet and statement of financial position (it's public of course) demonstrates they could do MORE for their members. I see them in our communities at events, which is nice HOWEVER, members are not benefiting and GROWING. It is truly a consumer focused credit union and not producer focused, that is growing their members knowledge, and their members financial accounts that will benefit both the institution and it's members. read more

When i first signed up, it was a 4% interest rate with 8 purchases plus $500 in DD required. Then 3%. Then instead of 8 purchases, it was required to make $500 in purchases. Then 1% (which I understand was during COVID). They provide terrible customer service when calling about the account (including leaving me on hold for an hour and not calling back when they tell you repeatedly that they will). I have been with Orion for many years, and prior to this year, I would have given them a fairly good rating. However, I would tell anyone to run as far away from this credit union as possible! 1. Someone at the CU gave my private account information to my spouse with whom I am going through a divorce, which immediately destroyed what was a perfectly amicable situation. It is now a complete disaster! When I am done with this situation, I am coming for the CU. 2. I went to the CU and withdrew a very large sum of money using a cashier's check. The teller assisting me did NOT ask for my ID, which I had in my hand! She simply requested my account number and then cut the check! When questioned about it, she stated she did not need it! I was simply in disbelief! When I subsequently returned a week or so later to repeat the process, I deliberately chose her to assist me. I immediately asked, "Are you going to request my ID this time?" She then proceeded to lie (while looking around wide-eyed and afraid that I was going to report her) stating, "Oh, we always have to ask for ID." I reminded her that she did not ask for my ID when I withdrew a much larger sum a week ago (realizing that she certainly recognized who I was). She continued to feign ignorance, while I continued to remind her that she knew exactly who I was and exactly what I was talking about. 3. Lastly, they have suddenly begun to send all of my e-statements via snail-mail! There is much more that I can say about how disastrous this credit union has become. In less than two weeks as a member, Orion Federal Credit Union has provided the most frustrating and unacceptable banking experience I have ever had. - Orion requires a minimum of 8 signature-based debit card transactions and $500 in ACH direct deposits per month on their premium interest-bearing checking accounts in order to both waive the monthly maintenance fee *and* accrue any interest. I never use my debit card for anything other than to occasionally withdraw cash (I put every purchase I make on my credit cards) and my previous bank accounts accrued ongoing interest with no such asinine criteria. - Unlike seemingly most other credit unions and local banks in Memphis, Orion imposes third-party ATM withdrawal fees, in addition to any fees imposed by a third-party ATM itself. My old bank, Charles Schwab Bank, is totally free and reimburses all ATM and foreign transaction fees worldwide. - I had a bill payment returned because, apparently, my full Orion checking account number is not the same one that must be used for electronic bank drafts. This was never disclosed to me until I called Orion customer support to ask why the payment was returned when I had more than enough of a balance to cover the amount. - Orion put a hard inquiry on my Equifax credit report without any prior warning or disclosure when I opened my account, which docked my credit score. I never applied for any loan or credit products. Orion should have pulled my ChexSystems report like the rest of the banking industry does. - Orion mailed me three different debit cards, none of which could be activated because PINs are mailed in separate envelopes on different days. - Outdated online and mobile banking interfaces, no Apple Pay support, and no support for instant P2P deposits. - My checking account and debit card were frozen without warning, which I discovered while trying to make an ATM deposit at the Orion White Station branch. According to the Orion phone representative whom I spoke with, my account was locked because they needed more documents to verify my identity. I have already given them my driver's license, SSN, passport, credit report, and proof of address. Now they want me to go into a branch to provide them with a copy of my social security card. Absolutely not. While I don't want to completely rule out credit unions for my future personal banking needs, Orion does the concept of credit unions an immense disservice through nickel-and-diming its members with unnecessary fees, unclear and misleading policies, disorganized business operations, and poor consumer technology. I am now in the process of moving my checking and savings funds back to Charles Schwab Bank and Ally (which offers fee-free savings accounts with 1.15% interest) and will be closing my accounts with Orion FCU. read more

Do not open an account at Orion in general. They pretend to be great at first when you go in. But they are never clean about the account requirements so you don't meet them. And that way they can make money with your money and still change you $5 for monthly fee maintenance. They will never return your call and that's if they answer your phone call. 4% checking is a rip off You will get charged $5 a month on this account if somehow you don't have enough transactions. Magically I had 7, just 1 under the required limit of 8, despite the fact I used the card 12+ times and never entered the pin. Customer service is poor. I emailed them a question regarding this and they directed me to call customer service, where I waited for 20+ min on hold until I gave them my phone to call. Basically it is set up for you to fail. They don't want to pay the 4%. Once you don't hit the requirements you get the $5 fee and 0.01% interest rate. Their website is as antiquated as something from before the year 2000 so don't expect it to be easy to find any answers.  I wish I had listened to the other reviewers on here. read more

According to their website, to qualify for 4% APY, you need to have: 1. Electronic deposits totaling at least $500/mo 2. Perform at least 8 signature-based card transactions It's easy! When using your card, choose the credit option and bypass using your PIN. Some of the transactions I made are online bill pay using my debit card without providing a pin. For some reason, these transactions didn't showed up as "signature-based" transactions. My fault? No. Yet, they used it as an excuse to disqualify me from the 4% APY. Called customer service, they said: bill pay does not qualify... REALLY??? Where does it state in the requirements above that bill pay does not qualify??? I play by the rules, but these people don't. As a bartender for many years, I really debated whether writing a bad review since a lot of them usually come from simple misunderstandings. However, this bank really really earned it. I had a car loan with them for about 3 years. The staff is usually nice but this bank is still in the year 2001. - Terrible online banking website. Clunky and poorly designed. - No direct way to make a payment with a debit/credit card by phone or online. I had to wire money from my other bank into my Orion's checking account and then transfer it into my loan. - When updating my address online failed, I was told there was no other option but to send a fax! Why not a carrier pigeon while we're at it...? - There is no easy way to retrieve you account number unless you go to a branch. I live in west coast now! When I closed my account with them, I did not receive my left over balance. I imagine because they still don't my address. But It is ok, I would gladly give up those $50 to not have to deal with OrionFCU again. I know I sound like the typical lady who asks to "speak with a manager" in a TGI Friday's but this as honest of a review I can leave for this bank. I hope it helps. read more

Orion has some small bank quirks, but at the end of the day they always have the best rates and good customer service. Most folks complaining about the premium checking didn't read/understand the two simple parameters to be met for the higher interest rate. This bank is not for the working person. I would say my biggest frustration is the communication skills. The customer service agents are not helpful and have trouble explaining their fees. Many times I get off the phone more confused than before I called. I have been very frustrated the last few months and find it very hard to trust this banking institute. There are other banking institute that have digital banking and caters more to the working individual who does not get off till 5:00. I have had more positive interactions with other banks around town which is why I slowly transferring account away from them. read more
