Ortega's is good but not great. It's a mom and pop owned business that I like to support. However ever since the kids have started working there , I feel like the service has gone down hill . These kids/ young adults would rather chat with each other or their friends instead of taking your order or coming by to check and see if you need anything. I went there for dinner last night. I sat down ordered a Corona but they were out of Coronas . Ok ??? I'll take a Pacifico.... uhhhh were out of that too . A Mexican restaurant no Mexican beer ? Ok , so I order a Sierra Nevada. I sat there 20 /25 min before I finally asked if someone was going to take my order. One of the guys working says yeah I'll be with you in a second. 3/5 minutes go by . I get up pay for my beer and leave . The place was not busy maybe 4 other couples. For now on I'll drive to Redding or Anderson to get Mexican food. I know a lot of my friend and people I know won't go to Ortega's because the service is horrible and it always takes so long . Hopefully the owners can retrain their staff or fire them and get people who will help their businesses and not hurt it. One last thing 10$ for a bean and cheese burrito is a bit ridiculous read more

This is a great little place! I've eaten there about half-a-dozen times. The burritos are great with any of the meats they offer. (plus they've gotten rid of the french fries in the big burrito which the old place used to serve :) Only reason 4 stars, intead of 5 is every time I've been in it seems like the tables are not properly cleaned. I mean, there aren't food particles on them, but there's this film which can be wiped up with a napkin that is just gross. If they would take some windex to all of their tables and add some flavor to their beans & rice I will recant and re-rate as 5 stars. But will definitely go back anyway! read more

Came here on a recommendation from a friend. The food was just meh! Nothing special, nothing horrendously bad either. Just not the flavor we were looking for. There was no spice or flavor to our shrimp cocktails, and tortillas seemed old. The lack of decorations and music was sorta weird. I don't think I would ever try again. read more

Great place. They have my second favorite fish tacos in Shasta County, and I like their salsa bar. Their "hot" salsa is indeed hot but tasty. The last time I was there, I had a basic combination plate: a beef taco and cheese enchilada. Yummy sauce for the enchiladas, tasty rice and beans, and wow, the taco had lots of shredded beef--not your usual tease in a taco. My bride had the enchiladas suizas and thought they were great. She also appreciated that it was cool inside, but not at meat-locker temperature. If you have a yankerin' for good Mexican food, and you feel up for a journey to exotic Palo Cedro, give this place a try. read more

This place is so horrible I remember going there and getting enchiladas my sour cream which was the majority of my plate was completely kernels and smelled disgusting. Also my cheese had gone bad and smelled horrible as well there was no way I was eating it to top it off my boyfriend was eating his and also thought his cheese tasted funny when he pulled three hairs out of his entrée. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but I was rather disappointed in my food. It was served hot but tasteless other than the overly spicy sauce that was poured over my entrees. The rice and beans were nothing special, both needed seasoning. Nothing was seasoned and too much spicy hot sauce on my food. Cost was high for what I received. The service here was their best seller....their food was not. I usually get the same couple items when trying a new Mexican place - a carne asada soft taco and a chicken enchilada. While the food was good, it was far from authentic and definitely "American-ized." read more

Dinner was great! My first time here and all the food was good. We had 5 people order different things and all meals were delicious and generous portions. Enchiladas Suizas was my favorite! The wait staff was attentive and the salsa bar was well stocked with salsa. The kids quesadilla was the perfect size for my 5 year old. Kids meals have a choice of fries (good) or rice and beans. This is a fantastic Mexican place. I got a veggie burrito that was super yummy, and my wife got a salad that was quite satisfying (when she added their wonderful refried beans). Kids also loved the beans. Service was also great. I love the fact that they have a wonderful salsa bar with actual salsa containers, and not the plastic disposable ones. Was looking forward to this place. Heard they had goat tacos and platters. Love goat meat - but my meal was a disappointment. Ordered the goat platter and it was in a rich sauce, but the goat was tough and stringy. The sauce was well reduced for flavor, but too much sauce and not enough meat. Refried beans- not great ; rice - good; could have used something else on the plate - guacamole, or sour cream; Reminded me of tex-mex, not authentic mexican style family cooking with depth and interesting flavors. My companion's dish was a chile relleno and she stated it was tex-mex style, too. Nothing memorable or special. It's family style and the staff is friendly, but nothing made us want to return. This is a great little Mexican restaurant! We had been in search of the best Mexican food around since moving here six months ago and this is the best we have found yet. We have tried several items on the menu and have been really happy with all of them. It is also great that they serve breakfast as so many Mexican restaurants don't. They do have to get 4 stars though rather than 5 because although they are always very nice when we come in, the service is really slow, and sometimes we have to wait a really long time to get drinks, silverware, etc. It does not stop us from coming in; we just don't come here if we are on a time crunch. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Palo Cedro. My sister and I would go here about once a week and the servers were always very nice and would frequently come to your table and ask you how everything is. The food is authentic and is always very large so you're definitely getting what you paid for. The restaurant has a Clean Atmosphere and I will definitely be returning. read more

This food is so delicious. There are so many yummy things to try. I have been here many times and have not had a bad meal.
