My boyfriend and I stopped into Ortho Mattress about an hour before closing last night and were kindly greeted by Mark. We discussed what we were looking for in terms of comfort and budget and Mark was extremely knowledgeable about which beds were compatible for our wants/needs. We ordered a mattress with an adjustable incline base. They delivered and everything was working well. 10 mnts later, the base wasn't working so I called the place and Wendy Garcia answered. I asked her if the guys could come back to fix the issue and she told me that I was messing with the controller and that's why It wasn't working. I told her that I was not messing with anything, I was trying the product that I bought. And she kept insinuating that we were playing with the controller like we are a couple of kids. I felt very offended because she was mean to me. The product has a warranty anyway. After a few minutes, another girl called Linda called my husband and reviewed the issue. She was super nice. My English is not the best and I definitely felt that Wendy Garcia didn't take me serious. Just got a mattress for our guest room and Mark McFarland was awesome with his help and options in this decision. No pressure from him, he showed us all models and everything we wanted to consider. Even when we picked a bed he entertained me by showing me a cheaper model so I could see what more value we were getting with what we ultimately ended up purchasing. Their delivery schedules are really flexible and you can pay a little more for same day delivery. My mom wanted a new mattress for herself and for my dad. I came with her to help her pick a mattress. Mark was very helpful when we walked in, he answered any questions we had and gave us mattress recommendations. He was very patient and informative. My mom wanted a split king since she likes a softer bed, while my father wants something firmer for his scoliosis. While I was testing out the beds, Mark made sure I kept my dad in mind every time I tested a firm bed. I really appreciated that because he wanted me to make sure I get the right bed for my dad. We ended up purchasing a split king and it arrived about a week and a half later. The delivery and installation was fast, the men that did the delivery and installation were also very helpful and they moved quickly. We headed to "Mattress Row" on Jackson yesterday expecting a hard sell that would make car buying look low pressure. I have to say, even the chain that advertises NONSTOP on the radio was pretty low-key (though the sales guy did limit the mattresses he showed us to the Cadillacs in the front row.) I found a nice, firm one I liked, but it would have cost $2,300 plus tax after their $200 off discount, so we headed up the hill to Ortho. Bruce Valk greeted us politely, and just let us wander around until we decided we wanted some information. When I told him I needed a FIRM bed, he showed me options from the front row of the store to the back ... not just the Caddies. Bruce knows his mattresses, tells you the pros and the cons, and doesn't try to upsell you out of your price range. In fact, he really does everything he can to get you the best deal they can make. I know I sound gullible, but I am actually quite a cynic (especially with regard to people who quite likely work on commission), but, no, he really did make the effort. He didn't push the add-ons, either ... mentioned, yes; pushed, no. This weekend (Labor Day) the store is having 50% off and we-pay-your-tax promotions. We walked out last night with a new bed set to arrive Wednesday -- and we paid less than half what we would have for an equivalent set at Snooze Locomotive. Ortho does charge $59 for delivery/setup/old bed removal, which is free at the other place, but that really wasn't a deal-breaker considering how much better the price was for the set. AND, though the deal was done, Bruce called back this morning because he'd found a way to save us a bit more. WHEN DOES THAT HAPPEN?!? My tips: Keep an eye on the newspaper inserts for one of Ortho's frequent specials, go in at a slow time of day, and make sure you talk to Bruce. He's good people. read more
