I had shoulder surgery nearly 5 months ago and I wanted to wait a while before I left my review. I had some unfortunate circumstances - the pain pump that was placed didn't work and I had terrible pain the next day and had to have it removed. I underwent physical therapy for 4-6 weeks before my MRI was scheduled so that after surgery when I needed PT I ran out of benefits. I am waiting for the new year to begin so I can start back with PT since I still have limited range of motion. I had heard only good things from other patients before my surgery but looking back I wonder about my decisions. It seemed the decision for surgery was given to me and they wanted to know right then if I was ready to schedule. Little information was given to me at the time and that didn't satisfy me. I like to think long and hard about decisions that concern me and when I called back to request additional information it was as if I was being aggravating. Looking back I wonder if I would have made the same decisions. I hope I continue to progress because I don't ever want to go through that again! read more

Zero Stars. I had the same exact experience as Dianne, ONLY WORSE! Same thing, I was told it was lunch time and it would be an hour. They have nothing saying they close and reopen. It was 15 til 12 when they went to lunch and I asked could I be seen before they go to lunch. I was told no. They use to care about patients and had to see pt all the way up until time to stop. We would get in huge trouble if we did what she did. She was unpleasant from the moment I walked in. No greeting, nothing. I then began asking about the providers that were there and asked when they made some changes to their operations. She replied in a nasty tone and had a "if looks could kill" look on her face. I informed her of how extremely rude and how nasty her attitude was. She proceeds to tell me I'm the disgusting one, then shouts how she does not care about her job. I told her that it was obvious and apparent and that hopefully she wouldn't have to worry about it when I got done calling on her. She then tells me "Call them, if she is gonna come after me, I'm gonna come after her!!!" This absolutely was a threat to me and my safety, not to mention I was with my granddaughter. I told her me coming at her job was not the same as her saying she is coming after me. Then as I was trying to contact someone in my car in the parking lot. She is leaving for lunch and stares me down all the way to her car with a hateful look. As I start to record, she then waves and grins in a sarcastic attitude. She also stops behind my car as she pulls off, which again was threatening. Apparently they are allowed to act this way because when I asked for the manager, there are none. read more

I went to Ortho Carolina Urgent Care in Gastonia for a problem with my knee. I signed in at 11:30am. After I waited 15 minutes the young lady at reception called me up to the counter and told me all the staff had gone to lunch and for me to return at 1 pm and I would be the first one seen. I returned at 12:45 pm and waited. Young lady called me to the desk to check me in but another staff member told us I wasn't next, I had left so I had lost my place in line and had to wait till after all 5 people that had since signed in. "Move to the back of the line." No consideration for what I had been told and no one used a bit of customer service to deal with this. Of course I left. My experience was not great. The only time I met with Dr. Maitra was when he told me I needed surgery for my knee in April but had surgery in June. I did not see him the day of my surgery, he spoke with my fiancé about what happened during my surgery and not me. My fiancé didn't understand anything he told him. Dr. Maitra had is rude PA meet with me after surgery who was rude and gave no information on what happened with my surgery. I was told to keep my leg locked longer than it sh have been, which created me to lose mobility in my knee. So, now I switched orthopedics to help fix my knee or have them go back in to fix what Dr. Maitra messed up. I will never go back to OrthoCarolina in Gastonia if I can help it. The billing at this location is outrageous and I wonder if other people are aware. If you like corporate medicine and being responsible for large bills without obtaining an actual treatment or diagnosis beyond a 'catch-all', then you can go waste dollars here. In the midst of this healthcare transition in our country, I urge you all not to settle and push for better, more humane business practices. There are patients out there that need more than a people mill and super high bills for a ten minute consult. They are probably raking in the $$$ with the aging population right now. Grosses me out. Times are changing and we do not have to put up with this anymore. read more

I've never met a practitioner as rude as the urgent care PA. He didn't listen to my daughter and cut her off every time she tried to explain her symptoms and pain. His attitude was condescending when I tried to ask the simplest of questions. We left with what is most likely an incorrect diagnosis and no request for further imaging, simply a referral which has no availability for weeks. read more

I went to a physician in Charlotte, and his service was exceptional. However, I was referred to physical therapy here in Gastonia. The operation of this place is amateurish and shows the complete lack of organization in scheduling. The last time I was there, they would hand me a list of directions on how to exercise and walk off. The doctors are great, but stay away from the physical therapist at this location. read more

If I could rate Dr. Prater no star or less, I would. I went first time for pain in hip that was arthritus. He gave me trigger shots which didn't help. Went back again, waited over an hour and he came in,didn't ask why I was back; started saying in a very rude way that I didn't need a hip replacement (last thing I wanted) and jerked my leg around to show me I didn't. Not only did he scare me with the way he acted he hurt me. I left crying. When I complained to office manager about his actions, she seemed to shrug it off saying it didn't sound like him. Went to another group of orthos, saw a PA. He was kind and caring, gave me an antiinflamatory prescription, scheduled a shot in my hip and within three weeks I could walk without pain. So after trusting OC for thirty years, I said goodbye. read more

The first time I went here, I came to the Urgent Care after 530pm. I waited over an hour in the patient room because the after hours doctor was running late. Even though I was "first in line", and was told I would be the first one seen, the Dr went in to see the "second in line" patient first. I was not happy, but what can you do? Made a 9am appointment for a follow up visit 2 weeks later. I arrived at 9am and sat in the waiting room for an hour. At 10am, I got up and walked out the door. Doctors offices need to stop scheduling so many patients that they get this far behind! I wouldn't be expected to wait an hour for my hair appointment. I wouldn't be expected to wait an hour for a restaurant reservation. I wouldn't be expected to wait an hour for any other appointment. Why has it somehow become acceptable to wait an hour (or even more in many cases) for your Dr appointments? This has to stop! read more

I was misinformed about the cost of physical therapy for my daughter. When I received a bill the employee told me to ignore it I did not have to pay, only the copay I was already paying. Now I'm getting red notices and when I called the office I was told they didn't know who told me that but I have to pay the bill. read more

Wonderful experience at OrthoCarolina in Gastonia. Physical therapists Rebecca, Emily, and Phil took great care of me and took away my foot pain. I thought I'd just have to live with the pain, but they worked it out and showed me how to prevent it from coming back. Practice was very organized, people are friendly and listen well. Dr Mehtra was very helpful and listened as well. read more

Worst place ever!!! For 3 mts now I've had severe shoulder pain and have been told by several Dr's that it appears to be a possible torn rotator cuff. So tonight after much pain and days of no sleep I was told about this place by a recommending physician. So I go and I see Dr. McHale, who has to be the rudest, most disrespectful doctor I've ever seen!!!! She actually got mad at me for not allowing her to torture me repeatedly for more than several minutes. I told her I COULD NOT move or lift my arm so she grabs it none to gently and starts pulling on it , without warning. Then has the nerve to tell me I'm crying to much and "acting'" like it's to painful to touch me that I need to take some steroids and come back when I can handle the examination!! Really, that's her bed side manner??? Then proceeds to tell me she can guarantee that its not a torn rotator cuff, that being in my mid 30's I'm to young for that to happen..uhmm alright then, so I ask, what is it then and she says "at this point I don't know." Yep folks that's what she said!! NEVER AGAIN!! Even the receptionist was shaking her head and said please come back and ask specifically for .. then named two other doctors. She said NO ONE likes Dr. McHale and I hope you find out what's wrong with your shoulder!!! read more
