The hotel sits right on the water, so if your pocketbook can stand a $1,000/night set back, knock yourself out and get you one of those "sea view" rooms. Since this trip was already hitting my bank account pretty hard, I opted for the more economic alternative - the "city view" room. Still, the hotel was a steal on one of those hotel sites for what you get. The service is impeccable. The staff is very friendly and are all empowered to make guests feel most comfortable. The rooms ... now ... the rooms are another story all together --- WAY beyond impeccable! I seldom have the opportunity to stay in one of those highfalutin hotels here in the states. This place amazed me. By nature (nor profession), I am not a techie geek (contrary to popular belief - my life in IT at the world's largest telecom company is just a facade), but I had the best time with the technology in that room. Everything was operated by a remote - the lights, the television, the iPod dock, the blinds, the alarm, the wake up call - EVERYTHING. Way Cool! The rooms were very large (for Turkey standards), the beds very comfortable with awesome linens (very much my "thing"). The water closet looked like it was straight out of the latest Architectural Digest - all chrome and glass tile. It was gorgeous with the the glass wall looking out into the bedroom (for privacy, they have installed a - again, remote controlled - blind system). We did have an opportunity to taste the dining menu - they had most anything a traveler would want - I opted for the peppercorn steak, which was well prepared, and served with a side of veggies and couscous. Great stay in an awesome hotel. If you find yourself in Izmir, I highly recommend the Key Hotel (Key Otel) - Go ahead ... splurge for the "sea view room" - you know you want to!!

The menu said it was 35 lira per person and the fee on our room charge was waaaaayyyy more than that (45 euro). Maybe skip the breakfast if it's not included in your room fee, and then just pay for it when you get there instead.

Here's why:…read more 1) Service is wonderful - very welcoming, friendly and willing to assist - we had multiple interactions with the front desk staff, valet parking and housekeepers - all were very helpful and nice! 2) AC! I realize now that air conditioning is a coveted luxury abroad and I happily welcomed our stay here even more so for the cool rooms in the 100-degree Izmir heat! 3) Location is prime!! Right on the waterfront, close to lots of bars, restaurants and sites. The paved paths near the water made it nice to walk, sit and watch the sunset. 4) Continental breakfast - that's superior to others! We made our way down an hour after start time and although packed, there were many options allowing for our party of 4 to have what we wished. The food was replenished fairly quickly, which was nice! 5) Pricing was very reasonable - for the location, size and likeness of the rooms. Our rooms were huge - mine featuring a king bed and nice sitting area, along with a massive bathroom. I felt comfortable and slept well in my room on the top floor! :) When in Izmir, I'd easily stay here again!

Not the hotel's fault per say, but just a drag to get to. When we arrived, I asked the front desk attendant to please give us a room that was quiet since we were so tired and could hear the construction from outside all around us. I was a little hesitant that we would get the worst room since we made the reservation on Expedia, a 3rd party site. Don't know why I would think that, but I did. Sometimes I feel like this when I go on those types of sites, but Expedia is so convenient since it is a one stop shop for flights, hotel, rent a car that it seems silly not to use it, right? We were given a room on the 2nd level. when we entered, we were appalled. The bathroom was dirty and the towels were thin and worn and some of the fixtures were so wobbly that they fell off, the carpet stained and dirty, the view, forget about it--might as well be in a cave, and the door didn't even lock properly. It was awful and I couldn't believe that for the DOUBLETREE, that a room like that could even be released for occupancy! We felt like we had no choice as we were tired and just wanted to hang our hats. We asked for a different room, but they denied us and said that that was what they had. Of course, I didn't believe it. My husband complained again because the electricity went out in the room. The next day we told them that this was unacceptable and that we would not take that room. We left and continued our vacationing at a different hotel in a different town for the 5th. The hotel later called us and told us they would move us to the 6th floor and when we returned on the 6th (Sunday) late evening, we had a much better room, but still no 4 stars, in my opinion. The staff was very nice that evening and I think they tried to make up for some of the inconvenience, but still...this hotel should not be a 4 star rated hotel....truly. I can't give it more than 2 stars. Also the "free" wifi was useless. I couldn't get on it to use it.

It's a beautiful country with amazing people and so much history you can fill a book (duh!). Secondly, security is not an issue here. 24/7 security on duty w/ guards manning the entrance to the facility as well as the beach. Now on to the good stuff. Stayed here end of May/beginning of June 2017 w/my family for 1 week. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by the staff checked in promptly and offered some fresh lemonade. We were escorted to our room on the 2nd floor. It was a 1 bedroom suite with the separate "living room" that converts two sofas to beds. Separate full bathroom for anyone staying in that room as well. The main bedroom was spacious and had an ensuite bathroom. Both were very nicely decorated. Both rooms had walk out balconies that overlooked the pool/bar deck patio and the Aegean. Next time we may splurge for the terrace rooms perhaps...however most times were spent on the beach or poolside so it wasn't a huge deal breaker for us. The hotel property was really well maintained and the staff that took care of everything were very (very) friendly. Selo- Usually can catch him walking the hotel grounds checking on guests and signing up people for the hair dresser. Everyday I ran into him we chatted for a while. Mustafa- 99% of the time we sat in his area of the dining room. Very attentive and a pleasure to talk to. Ada, Tuana & Sevim-Kids club animators. These ladies were very good with the kids! My son was reluctant at first to do the Kids Club but he was all about it after the first day. Thank you for your efforts. Cenk- One of the main entertainment guys. Tremendous help for the hotel as he got me & other guests up to play punishment darts (so much fun...you must try for yourself! & archery (which I hadn't tried before). Hasan- One of the main bar guys & handled the sheesha (nargile/hubbly bubbly) duties. Very helpful as well. Baise & Yusuf- Piano bar coffee staff (I hope you both read this review) you 2 were AWESOME & deserve a commendation from management! Yusuf always had nice things to say, knows his drinks in & out...and all around nice guy! Even made my son 'Chocolate Milk on the rocks'. Treat yourself to a mojito or a frozen drink in the evening & you will get to know him as well. Baise always had a smile on her face and made some wonderful coffee for us that we enjoyed while lounging around the lobby or the patio deck. If you're a coffee person, stop by and see her. All the other staff that worked behind the scenes to make the hotel what it is should be praised as well. The chefs, the cleaning staff (always smiling) & the grounds/maintenance staff did such an amazing job. "Kolay gelsin" to you all ! The main pool is HUGE and virtually wraps almost all the way around the hotel. Big enough that you can float around or do laps and not interfere with anyone else. Perfect! There's a kiddie pool with a little slide for the little ones. There's also another pool with bigger slides opposite the kiddie pool. Love this as the main pool was more for the adults The beach is just the perfect size for the hotel. Enough parasols and loungers for everyone. There's even a 'silence zone' on the pier. There you can go and lay out in the sunshine and not be bothered by splashing or any loud noises. Just the waves breaking against the pier and the bartender on site setting you up with an ice cold beer from the tap. Water was crystal clear and shallow enough to wade out very far out. To the right of the main beach (next to the pier) there's a coral reef and a steep drop off that you can snorkel if you wish (just mind the sea urchins). It's the Aegean and there's all types of wildlife...crabs, fish, starfish & of course the odd octopus here and there. Met some wonderful folks on holiday there & hopefully will see them sometime on a return trip in the future. Visit this hotel, you won't be disappointed. Even during Ramadan when 99% of the locals don't eat, drink or smoke from sunrise to sunset, NO ONE on the staff batted an eye to assist us whenever we made a request. Incredible!
