Also, on Brick Lane its one of the only shops thats 1. new clothing (not "vintage") and 2. not crazy ridiculously expensive/all black. There's something to be said for this. I like the one in Angel and I like this one, too. The prices are very reasonable and if you are young enough (or short enough) to pull off their general hem lengths, you'll be in heaven with the dress selection (almost 90 percent of the store). My partner in crime had the best of luck straight away; he'd bought a great three-piece suit and blazer within minutes of us starting the shopping excursion, but I had a harder time. At the cute little boutiques and vintage shops around Brick Lane, I didn't tend to be entirely satisfied, mostly because the quality of the fabric used on the dresses wasn't up to par. Joy was recommended to me, and I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, some of the items had the same sheen and polyester material as I had seem elsewhere, but some of them were of great quality and cut, and at very, very reasonable prices. As it was January, they had some great sales on, and I made the best of it. The nice thing about Joy is that it's reminiscent of Urban Outfitters, but reduced in quantity and upped in quality. It's a better selection of actually wearable clothing, with some extra fun pieces tossed in, but without the loads and loads of clothes that no one actually wants to wear. And it's not nearly so messy or destroyed, either. The range of dresses was great, and I got a coat that has made waves on both sides of the ocean.

Prior to your visit I'd keep your expectations low on the quality as most everything is plastic and inexpensive fast fashion items, but for a quick stop while you're in town, it's not too bad and they have fitting rooms so you can try things on. We did not love the UK law where although Primark opens at 11:30am on Sundays, you can't purchase anything until 12pm, so if you visit on a Sunday from out of town, it's just something to be aware of. All in all, the honey liked his £7 swimsuit and we were able to use self-checkout, so overall we'd definitely come back.

We visited on a Saturday while the market was in full swing so the store was crammed with people. The Mister was taken with their men's messenger bags and settled on a very stylish model that was waxed so it's rain resistant. At under £40, it was reasonably priced and it's good quality too. Kelly couldn't resist a smaller purse - again, stylish, sturdy and a great souvenir! The staff, despite being so busy, was lovely and gave us some good recommends for local places to grab a bite. Worth a stop!

So don't be surprised if you get a rude response to any attemps at haggling, they're not bulk buying the stuff and they don't like it. Good for costume jewellery, scarfs, wooden toys and games, and even hand printed ties. The decor could definatly do with improvment and looks decidedly dingy compared to the well lit and decorated Apple Market, but there is some good stuff in there if you get past some of tattier stalls that have crept in, in recent years.
