The mechanics have a million things to do but they'll be happy to tell you about it and Jane Riley might even grace you with her annoying presence. The village has now extended to most of Victoria Square and it is about the only time of the year that the square is actually utilise well. You can get all your merchandise and even whisper a few sweet nothing's in Eddy Merckx's ear.

Every year as the Santos Tour Down Under rolls into town the accompanying Tour Village gets bigger…read moreand bigger. Located opposite the Adelaide Hilton in Victoria Square, the Tour Village is where so much of the action both pre and post race happens and it's always buzzing. The village is open to the public and you can watch the mechanics prepare the bikes for the next day's racing. The village is open on the 1st Sunday (Jan 15) before the city circuit between 9am and 12.30pm and then all day on Monday (Jan 16). This is actually a rest day for the riders but you can be sure there will still be plenty of activity in the village. Its then open from Tuesday Jan 17 to Saturday Jan 21 between 4pm and 7pm and there's never any shortage of activities or entertainment. Watching the teams' mechanics doing their work before and after every race is a huge draw card for cycling enthusiasts. Find an English speaking one and they're always happy to chat or you can try out your Italian, French or Spanish if you're keen. This year the Village will be expanded to include the northern side of the Vic Square where organisers are setting up an interactive bike expo.

This park is up the top end of the River Torrens Linear Reserve, the start of a beautiful scenic…read morewalk, or ride, that can take you along the Torrens all the way into the City or across to West Beach - it'd be a fairly hefty walk right over to the beach from here, but I am reliably told that people do ride all the way over. This little playground is well sheltered, big sails offer shade from the sun, and the equipment is in very good condition. There's a couple of benches for adults to relax while kids rampage on the playground, but otherwise there are no facilities like toilets or bbq's. Both my daughters have learned to ride a bike without training wheels here - there's a nice gentle slope to the hill that let them gain some speed and balance, well removed from vehicles and traffic.

This playground certainly offers equipment for older children unlike what I've seen in other playgrounds. I guess the tennis students would have this playground to occupy themselves while waiting for a game or training? There's also equipment here for the younger children too and even has easy access steps to the slide for the youngsters who can't balance on ladders or chains yet. You certainly don't have to worry about traffic here, this playground is kind of in the middle of streets which is great for road safety but can make parking interesting. In this case, park on Angas and walk through to the tennis courts and playground. Yeah, this place was okay, it was fun when I was a kid, but when I walked past it years later I have to admit that it wasn't all that great. Still, as a playground, it does have some charm, and does bring back some memories.

They have the longest slippery dip in this suburb and that's just not fair for some of us who would like something similar in our backyard. Welcome to adventure land. If you can't make it to St Kilda playground, this is kinda mini (double mini version) of St Kilda. A long slippery dip awaits you and it stretches all the way down. I've seen many parents enjoy a fun ride down the slide with their kids in tow. Huge wooden timber fort awaits you in this slippery dip as you call out your mates to join you here. You'll also find a horse riding swing equipment, fantastic swings, flying fox and wait for it.....a long suspension bridge which will guarantee hours of fun, giggles and a bit of butterflies in your tummy! Plenty of benches and plenty of picnic spots to throw a rug here. The only downside I found was the council should have planted more trees here as it can get pretty hot during summer and you don't want to end up with a toasty butt on your way down the slippery dip! Overall: I heart Dunstan Playground.

Unley Oval has long been the official home of SANFL football team, Sturt known to their supporters…read moreas the Double Blues. Back in the 80s before the advent of the AFL national competition, it was one of those places where football heroes like the Jumbo Prince and Peter Motley took speccy marks, kicked sensational goals and entertained their fans. These days they still play SANFL footy there (in fact Sturt play 7 of their 14 home games at Unley), and they play South Australian Grade Cricket, but its not like it used to be back in the 80's despite the two grandstands and the oval's capacity to hold 15,000 people. Local residents have benefited from this once hallowed turf becoming more of a public space set aside for their use. Plenty of people use the oval for leisure and sporting activities of all kinds and you'll always find someone in private training doing laps around the ground. Dogs are allowed there as well nowadays with on leash and off times being strictly enforced. Refer to the Unley Council's website for specific times.

It's small, but it's new, engaging, colourful and fun. While the children can set about discovering it, the adults can admire the shade sails, or the rubber flooring, or the sheltered table/chair areas which have BBQs beside them. Perhaps I need to stop reviewing playgrounds or perhaps I can say "YAY UNLEY OVAL! It was pretty hot when I was here yesterday and would have been unbearably so if it weren't for all…read morethe shady trees. Lot's of play equipment to keep the kids entertained, I do have a problem with the slide set up though, to get to the top you have to climb up this weird green material that has been fashioned into steps, but you cant really see the steps, very tripsy indeed. I know this because I went down the slide numerous times and the climb up didn't get any easier. There is a kiosk available for drinks and ice-cream etc. you can bring your own picnic though and there are BBQ facilities available. one thing I did notice was a lack of rubbish bins, in fact I didn't see one, but there had to be one because there was no rubbish on the ground. The burnside pool is just across the green if you want to go for a swim, personally I don't like public pools because of how much chlorine they have to pack into them, ever had chlorine induced hazy eye syndrome? It's painful.

The bottom line is, this is GREAT and much more of an adventure park than the Burnside Adventure park. There's sheltered tables for the on-lookers plus some wildly different play equipment. It's the sort of place where children will run from one thing to another. I can't wait to explore this park more with my daughter. There are BBQs on the lawn section just off of the playground area and unfortunately there isn't a lot of shade over there apart from tree shade. If your child is in a wheel chair, there is a mechanical swing for them to use. Lots of fun shall be had at this playground.

Consider this rating to be a slim three stars. Ideally I'd give this playground two and a half…read morestars. There isn't a great deal here and what IS here is dated (as is the case with many City of West Torrens playgrounds). In saying that, there's slightly more to do here than there is on a two star playground. This is not a playground for those who are learning to walk or to climb. The only way to get onto the playground equipment is by climbing; chains, ladders, curved ladders etc so if your child is more confident with solid stairs, this isn't the playground for them. There are of course swings and bouncy things if they want something to do while older children are having a play. There isn't any shade over the playground which makes for some HOT play and lots of Slip, Slop, Slapping. *Dogs allowed* *Drinking fountain*
