This was a fun find and part of an art installation of 5 throughout WA and one in Portland. This is on Maury Island, connected to Vashon Island if you're doing some island hopping while in WA. You'll find Oscar next to the parking lot for the light house, another amazing attraction done by the beach. Before walking down to the beach, head to the left side and follow the path to the troll. Once you find him, you'll need to wait patiently as others will be taking lots of pictures with this art installation. While waiting, you can walk around and follow the path. Again, this is just one of six art installations in our family is looking forward to our next visit in visiting all the other trolls. Highly recommend as this is free other than the ferry ride to the island. The family especially the kids are going to love this little adventure. read more

Oscar the Bird King is probably my favorite troll that I have visited so far. It is a bit of an adventure to see him. I took the car ferry from Point Defiance to Vashon Island and a 20 minute drive later I finally got to see him. He is not far from the parking lot and just a short walk to get to him. He is whimsical and magical. Sitting on his throne and reaching out to touch those that come to visit him. I sat on the benches in his courtyard and was just in awe of Oscar. He is a King indeed. read more

Oscar The Bird King is a wooden troll statue made by troll maker Thomas Dambo. This was the last of the trolls I wanted to see that is tucked away here in the Pacific Northwest. It's a cool one too! With his authoritative pointing and a crown with bird houses in it and a wisened beard this is one of my favorites of the trolls that I have seen. To get to the troll all you need to do is go to Point Robinson Park. Probably the biggest challenge is locating the troll but finding parking and the small crowd that is often present with these trolls. If you don't mind a few strangers in your pictures then that's cool. If you want it to look like you're alone with the troll... well good luck with that. It might be awhile before seeing another troll. At this point the closest ones is one near Jackson, WY and two in Colorado. read more

I was at the grocery store and after cashing out I saw the free brochure rack and picked up the Vashon 2025-2026 visitor guide. On page 9, I saw a write up on Oscar the Bird King. We actually visited him this past spring. I usually catch the Fauntleroy/Vashon run whenever I take a day trip out here. I had never taken the Point Defiance/Tahlequah run so we chose this south end route instead. We left early in the morning because we know the ferry lines can get backed up and we weren't sure what the parking situation was going to be like once we got to the park. I guess everyone on the ferry wanted to visit Oscar. We pretty much followed the convoy of cars ahead of us along with more cars driving behind us. Once we parked it was pretty easy to get to Oscar. You don't have to work for it, unlike the trek to Bruun Idun. You should still visit her despite the moderate decline and hike back up. After visiting Oscar, we took the trail down to the Point Robinson Lighthouse and walked along the shore. Wear good shoes if you decide to do this. read more
