Been coming here for YEARS! Our favorite Mexican place in MA (or the east coast in general). I could drink the salsa. We always order the shrimp enchiladas, and mole enchiladas. sometimes we switch it up with a combo plate and add a shredded beef flauta. So good! Fajitas are also very good! The bartenders were very rude. One of them during a Halloween party, I was walking around the bar and we kind of bumped into each other as she was walking out of the bar and she says, "Watch it bozo" in a very unfriendly manner. Also, without getting into too much detail, They like to play favorites and involve themselves in the patrons personal lives. at a place of business you shouldn't be judging the customers or taking sides in arguments that have nothing to do with you. To do that is just unprofessional. That's why it has a very dark, dive bar type of vibe to it. which is unfortunate because it could be so much more than what it is. read more

I ordered a fajita salad which is shown on the menu as chicken, steak or shrimp sautéed with peppers and onions, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, refried beans, sour cream, and guacamole on a crispy shell... What they gave me, was a container of grilled chicken strips, 2 slices of tomato, lettuce and raw peppers and onions! No beans, No sour cream, No guacamole, nothing sautéed, NO CHEESE OR SHELL!! This may be the third time I've written about Oscar's Pinata since I first discovered the place back in early 2008. I still like the place and was very pleased that Oscar has added an outside dining area under an open tent -- something that's very nice to have in this time of coronavirus. On a beautiful July afternoon, my friend and I had a very pleasant lunch consisting of Oscar's Nachos a la Casa for me and Fish Tacos for my friend. As usual, I found the food to be well prepared and the waitress who served us to be efficient and friendly. After months of only getting take-out food from restaurants, this was my first time to sit down, relax, and enjoy a meal served to me by someone. It felt very, very good. read more

Not sure what happened perhaps they changed the owner, but this place used to be the go-to spot for Mexican food. The food and presentation completely lost its quality. It was embarrassing to recommend this place to a friend as our dinner destination on a Saturday night. The disappointment on his face. The quesadilla was more like a melt, I could've done a better job making it myself at home. I spent $75 dollars on a tasteless undercooked Carne fajita and a half ass shrimp quesadilla. Good Mexican food! I stopped by Oscar's Piñatas recently on a Monday night. The place was not busy and the dining room was empty. I headed to the back room, which has the bar area. The bar area was a bit dark and the music was blasting over the speakers from the jukebox. The most of the other bar patrons were in their 20s and enjoying their drinks and singing along to the tunes blasting including "Thank U, Next" by Ariana Grande. Anyways, I took a seat at the bar and the bartender gave me a menu to look at. I also had an Entertainment Book BOGO Free Entree coupon, which the bartender accepted. I ordered two entrees including the Seafood Burrito ($13.95) served with rice & beans and the California Burrito ($12.95) with Shrimp served with rice & beans. Both entrees arrived together, nice and hot. The California Burrito was not messy and was filled with tender shrimp, peppers, onions, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. The Seafood Burrito was filled with tender shrimp and scallops, topped with red sauce and cheese. The Mexican rice was firm and on the wet side. The refried beans were firm and not mushy. There was a lot of food and I could only finish one entree and sampled the second entree. The bartender gave me a to go box for the extra food. The discounted check total for two dinners was $14.82 with tax and before tip, a very good deal! Overall, the food I had was solid good. The bar atmosphere seemed loud and a bit divey, but all I cared about was enjoying tasty Mexican food at good prices. read more

My second time here and it was as great as the first, maybe even better.. App - Boneless Buffalo Tenders: they were the best buffalo tenders I've ever tried. Okay I get it, they look weird but they're made with a different type of batter and they taste AMAZING. I could literally order these alone as a meal. Entrees - Carne Asada: The size of the flank steak was a big portion and pretty thick for the type of cut it is. It was so juicy and flavorful. Rice and beans were great and freshly made. Mexican Combo: A decent sized portion of Carne Asada and 5 huge pieces of batter-fried shrimp. It came with sauce with peppers and onions on top, which my boyfriend wasn't too happy about. He enjoyed the meal, just would have enjoyed it better without the sauce. It kind of overpowered the taste of the steak and shrimp. Other than that no complaints. They have a Groupon available, $20 for a $40 dinner for 2. We had no problem using ours. The waitress was kind and very quick to serve us. We'll definitely be back again! read more

Our waiter was very rude took very long just to bring us some water, and chips she was on her phone often, and she was being rude to a dasher who was just doing his job. I was surprised to learn Oscars no longer accepts credit cards. I had just enough cash to pay my bill and leave a tip. There was no sign on the door or I would have gone somewhere else. If I can give these guys zero stars I would. Maybe something changed after the pandemic but this restaurant couldn't spell customer service if their life depended on it. I've been ordering from Oscar's for years. Even during the pandemic, we would order almost every week and chat it up with the owner as to how it's been tough for a lot of businesses. I gifted cards to friends for this place as the food is awesome. BUT, lately their attitude can use a little bit of adjustment. It was my father in laws birthday today and both he and his wife are vegetarian. So we call and customized orders for them. I don't eat rice and beans, I'm literally allergic to beans (yes at a Mexican joint) but they serve everything. So I personally ordered the stuffed chicken with shrimps with veggies instead of rice and beans. The wife and kid ordered their usual chimichangas. This used to come in their "special Oscar sauce". To our surprise when we came home with the food the chimichangas were dry as fried tortillas. My chicken and shrimp were smothered with rice and beans. When we called to complain, they said the chimichangas never came with sauce. For the chicken and shrimp dish which was the most expensive on our bill, they suggested to scrape the rice and beans off!!!! When I said that's not acceptable they offered sauce for the chimichangas but we'd have to come and pick it up. We live 40 minutes away!!! We only ordered from this place because we thought we liked it. I agreed to come if they fixed the chicken dish. When my wife got there they suggested they wouldn't give a replacement unless we brought the other one back. Lololol. They made the mistake!!! See the image below. I've been here a few times with my husband for some drinks. The owner seems nice from what I can tell. I've had food here once. Never again. It was over priced for the plain bland dish. I never put salt on my food but this time I had to. Anyways, We usually go to the bar there and all the times that we go they never ever have Jose Cuervo Silver Tequila. Dispute the many times I have request it. Please tell me why a Mexican restaurant wouldn't have many different types of Tequila. The only brand the female bartender "Megan" could offer is 1800 and old dusty Patron bottle. It feels like they are taking cheap Tequila and putting it in the old bottle of Patron. I am going to personally speak with the owner regarding the services, drinks, and especially the lazy bartender "Megan" that constantly is sitting with her friends talking. This place has the best Carne Asada I've had in the North East and I frequent Mexico. They desperately need to remodel the bathrooms and the the sewage smell is horrendous! Absolutely terrible service. I have been going to this restaurant for many years with great experiences. Today, it's all over. This is the second time I have ordered and received terrible service over the phone the last two times ordering. The previous time the person in the restaurant was in super nice and corrected the issue. This time two people doubled down refused to acknowledge their mistake and charged us $20 more than needed and put the charged under "custom item". Although I heard Oscars pinata could be hit or miss, we went in hoping this would be a hit. I'll just comment on the food and the service because there really isn't much in the way of an atmosphere in this place. I ordered the chicken burrito, my wife ordered the fish tacos and an order of chips and guacamole as an appetizer. We are immediately informed that and there was no guacamole. Our server asked if chips and salsa would be acceptable, and we were fine with that. The chips are unremarkable, however the salsa had the consistency of ragu spaghetti sauce with maybe a little cilantro thrown in. Our main courses arrived quickly, and were plated with the care of a kitchen staff that doesn't. There were two fish tacos on the taco plate with what looked to be about 4 oz of overdone white fish between the two store-bought tortillas. My wife took one bite of the fish, and asked me if she was crazy or was she wrong to think they were overdone. She was neither. We sent the plate back and my wife just asked for another order of chips (no salsa this time) which never arrived. When I say that I've had better frozen burritos, I speak the truth. The only redeeming thing about this burrito was there was a lot of it. But a lot of something lousy just means you've got more lousy. No cheese that I could find, a very mild sauce on the outside. if you've ever had shredded chicken that comes from a can, you know what it tastes like. I've had the unfortunate luck of having tasted it before. I tasted it again tonight. I highly recommend this place be knocked down and replaced with a strip mall karate studio. This was not my first visit here. But it is my first visit in quite a while. Arrived around 6:45 on a Saturday evening. The parking lot was relatively empty. That deterred me for a split second, and then I realize maybe more local people or larger groups were there. When we arrived in someone sat us, and we were in a booth like atmosphere but they were hard wooden chairs to sit on and a table of four. It smelled a little musty in the building as well, maybe they had had some damage during the last winter storm. I don't know. The waitress came and offered us water, and asked if we wanted anything like chips and salsa to which he replied yes. The salsa seemed like it was not homemade, and the chips clearly were not but were warm. In any event, we added extra hot sauce and Dug in. We actually got a second round of chips and salsa because our food was not ready after we had ordered it. We had ordered a chicken avocado soup and a cup, tacos, and a chimichanga. When the Soup arrived my mate noticed that there really wasn't any chicken in it, only a few shreds, and it was labeled as chicken avocado soup. He believed it probably would have been something more like an avocado purée, but this was like a chicken broth with zucchini a little shredded chicken in it and avocados put on top. He said it tasted OK, a little spicy, but where was the chicken? Shredded beef tacos and shredded beef chimichanga we're OK. Nothing to write home about but nothing to say complaints about either. Very routine. The rice that we had was colorful, but tasted very bland. Almost as if it was a made in a large batch, and that they don't let out until it is gone. Meaning, maybe it was made yesterday. But I don't know. The refried beans tasted like they could have come from a can. I like the weather there homemade or not, but they do Taste good. All in all I can say that there a better Mexican restaurants in the area. I have been to a few. If you'd like routine stuff that's a step above chilies, this is your place to go. It would be nice if the waitresses paid attention to the patrons a little more as well. I felt like they really were more concerned about getting things cleaned up in the dining room then making sure we had water to drink or if patrons nearby us needed something cleaned up after spill read more

I have been here to the bar, for dinner for two, and with a crowd at the last minute. The food is always very tasty, and the staff is kind and courteous. I love the fact that they offer corned beef specials on Saint Patrick's Day! I know a lot of people who just come in for chips, guacamole and salsa with a beer or margarita on their way home from work, but the food is awesome. Most of the time I'll drive by on my way to Grande Mexico in Haverhill (15 miles north) as the food, drinks & service is so much better. So my girlfriend and I strolled up here on a weeknight because we found it in our Entertainment Book. Now, the point of the E-book is to get you to try NEW places and hopefully become a repeat customer due to them losing a menu sale for the coupon. Well, I have to painfully admit that we won't be back to Oscar's anytime soon. First off, we walked into the dining area and it was super quiet, only one other couple was dining with us. That's fine, but it's not ok to have the bartendress look you in the eye THREE times while walking towards the kitchen and be completely ignored. A nice, "someone will be right with you" would have been suffice, but we got absolutely no feedback. I wish I was exaggerating when I say it took us 15 minutes to be noticed by anyone but her. We were 30 seconds from leaving when a waitress magically appeared to seat us. Strike one. We were sat but it felt like at least another 10 minutes before our drink order was taken by this same waitress. Granted, there were only about five people in the bar and as mentioned before, we were one of only two couples in the dining room so it's not like she was busy with other things. Strike two. The last straw was when our food took over 20 minutes to arrive. I said to my g/f, "this is ridiculous, why is our food taking so long??" to see our waitress rise out of the booth RIGHT BEHIND ME where she was working on the books after I said that and she goes and grabs our food. Granted, I was a tad embarassed by this happening but a waitress should never have to be reminded to do so! Strike three. The food was meh and nothing overwhelming. The tortilla soup for an appetizer was decent and at least not cold for how long it took to be served. My g/f had a chimichanga and I had a chicken enchilada, both were very large portions and tasty. In fact, the food was good enough where I would go back again but not with the way we were treated overall. I've driven by here a number of times and decided to use a Groupon to give it a try. I won't go back. On a fairly quiet night, we were seated promptly, but waited a very long time - after three later arrivals were seated and served their chips, salsa, and water - to get the same. The chips were bland - the salsa over chilled and did not taste homemade. The waitress was sweet, but either very new or just not very good at her job. It took a very long time to get our appetizer - just so-so queso and an even longer time to get our meals. The food was OK, not notable, but OK. Nothing you'd go back for. The specifics of my combo plate weren't quite right - my wife's fish tacos were good. On arrival, there was Mexican music piped into the dining room. About 20 minutes later, very loud rock music from another room started competing with and overpowering the music in our room. The ambience is kind of sterile - nothing like a number of other nearby Mexican establishments. So - not very good service, very long wait times, ordinary food, bland atmosphere. I was craving authentic Mexican cuisine on a Saturday evening and decided on Oscar's because of the location and alright reviews online. When we arrived, we were very confused about why many of the guests were staring at us while we waited to be seated. We later realized they were most likely trying to tell us to turn around and try to save our Saturday night with a longer drive for better food. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce with some dried cilantro. The chips were stale and flavorless. The guacamole was identical to Yucatan brand store-bought guacamole. Her chicken enchiladas were clearly frozen and simply reheated before being served (the chicken and tortillas had the same mushy texture) My chicken with cilantro sauce was extremely bland, the pieces of chicken were tiny, and the sauce was lacking cilantro. Our drinks were mixed up when the waitress brought them to the table-- which ended up not making a difference as my Sprite tasted like water and lacked carbonation. The inside has some lovely decor, but if you are craving authentic Mexican cuisine, seek it elsewhere. read more

Unfortunately they took it to new lows and I am forced to call them out on it. I was sat quickly. Then comes the problem. 20 minutes later, no hello, no chips and no anything. After the best laid plans to grab martinis at that new bar in Lowell went astray, my girls and I decide to do exactly what we have been warned against our entire lives-walk right into that bright yellow wooden building and order a drink. "You ain't from around here are ya?" Bear in mind I've pretty such spent my entire life less than a stones throw away from good ol' Oscar's, No matter. This is place is for the locals, and no matter what my local was, is, or will be, I will never be a local. No matter. Make no mistake of it, Pinatas the bar is dark, seedy, and dirty. The ghost of Gallagher played the bass in the band. (Yes, I know Gallagher is not dead. Dude still looked like a) a ghost and b) Gallagher) No matter. Gallagher may suck, ghosts may suck, the ghost of Gallagher plays some kick ass music. Pinatas offers a ton of fun music and my old preschool classmates make great dance partners, who knew? So I'm really sad that Pinatas gets such a bad rap, and was basically the candy coated cottage in the woods I was told to avoid, because it is actually a really fun place with really cheap margaritas! Pinatas the restaurant is an entirely different story. Brightly lit and decorated with, well, the entire pinata section of Iparty, it offers some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. As a child I was also warned against Mexican food, so good thing I'm a rebel. In conclusion, ghost of Gallagher, cheap margaritas, and excellent enchiladas all within stumbling distance from my the homestead, and I never knew.. Take a chance! read more
