This is a beautiful retreat and spa. I say "retreat" because it's surrounded by beautiful gardens and a forest of old bamboo. The spa itself is in an old home that's been re-purposed. It was a warren of little rooms. The smell of the cedar footbaths was really strong, but the foot bath was kinda fun, so I guess you have to get used to the smell. The enzymes inside the cedar mulch were hot so it was very nice to dig your tootsies into it. I had a brief, 10-minute chair massage (a little too hard for my preference) and as mentioned above, a foot bath in their cedar mulch that is naturally warm/hot depending on how deep you put your feet. Very unusual. Not sure of the benefits, but it was definitely enjoyable! Osmosis is located out in the country and it's very quiet and tranquil. Their tranquility garden was very, very beautiful. It's an "aww" moment when you step inside the property. Not sure I would come here again, as it's pretty far away, but I really enjoyed this unique spa. I've been going to Osmosis occasionally for many, many years but every step, beginning with the check-in, felt performative rather than the offering of a real experience. There was no sense of welcome and the bath attendant must have said "perfect" and "no worries" 40 times. The time in the bath felt shorter than before and there had always been--at least since Osmosis was in Occidental--time after the bath wrapped in a blanket with music playing. But not this time. The gardens however were a real experience and absolutely gorgeous--beautifully maintained and alive. Just seems like a huge amount of money to spend to get to enjoy the gardens. read more

My friend surprised me with some treatments here and it couldn't have been a better experience. The setting is so zen, and I immediately felt relaxed upon entering. We did the cedar enzyme bath which was really interesting and also had the aromatherapy massage. I've had tons of massages over the years with countless massage therapists and Dieter was definitely top 3 of all time. He really knew my body and was able to get into knotted areas while also being so relaxing. I actually fell asleep towards the end because I was so calm. The grounds are beautiful and there are countless areas in the mediation garden to be quiet and listen to the trickling fountains. Wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back! read more

The only update that I have is that Osmosis now makes tips mandatory. By definition, this is not a tip or gratuity. When asked, it was about some foreigners not used to the typical 15-20% gratuity. I honestly would just rather them increase their prices and let US decided...do I want to tip 10, 15, 20 or more for my tip? Their hour massage (70min) is $175 -$195 which isn't chump change. I LOVE Osmosis day spa and their staff, but I DON'T like someone making a judgement on what they think is appropriate for people to tip. I hope this trend doesn't continue in Sonoma County. read more

This place is a joke. I called to schedule a Warmth of Love package and talked with the booking girl for what seemed ever to have her not even book the right date. When we got there and realized she booked the wrong date, the only time they could offer us was hours after. Oh. My. Goodness. How is this little piece of heaven hiding so well in Sonoma County? From the outside, it looks like a modest house with a pretty front yard. Once you experience it, there is nothing but awesomeness in there! From the tea room, overlooking a postcard perfect Japanese garden where you relax and prepare for your spa treatments to the stunning meditation gardens in the back, this place has something amazing around every corner. The cedar enzyme bath is so unique. It is a little bit like a mud bath, in that you are cozied up in a big tub of organic material, but it is also so different. The heat comes from the organic material (cedar, bran, water and fir, I think) and it generates the most soothing deep warmth. You can wiggle around to get warmer. It is not slimy or wet- more like damp soft fine wood chips. (They are really fine, more like sand but softer... hard to describe but feels great!) The massages are also amazing-- very clean well appointed rooms with nice windows for some light. Nice therapists who greet you warmly and do good healing work. Their massages are 75 minutes, too - so no wishing you could have just a few more minutes. You get them! Make time for the gardens!! There is a hammock garden-- you can sway in hammocks overlooking the creek and just bliss out. The meditation garden is beautiful (pics attached - so pretty!) and has a platform with meditation cushions. I wanted to roll out my yoga mat and stay all day! The raked sand and the stepping stones just make it so conducive to just letting go of the real world for just a little while. (No cell service made that a reality for me!). There are pagodas behind the gardens in a private area -- little wooden screened rooms right out of a film set for massages. Gonna have to try that! They offer packages with a box lunch-- TOTALLY worth it. Organic, delicious, and just perfect food. Of course Wild flour bakery and Freestone artisan cheese are just down the road... make it a day of food, too :-) Fun for couples, groups of friends (wish I had known this for my birthday!), and as a treat to yourself. read more

I love this place! My husband and I did the 1hr massage with the 20min cedar bath and it was one of the best spa experiences. I had Sue as my masseuse and she put so much care into the massage. She made sure I was comfortable at all times and also gave me a little heavenly head massage. The cedar bath was a one of kind experience. I didn't know what to expect but it was so relaxing! I forgot the lady who was attending to us but she came back every 5ish min to put some cool towel on our heads and offer us water. Last but not least, the grounds are so peaceful. One of the best experiences I've had (spa or otherwise)! I'm not typically a spa person-I find them pricey and impractical and I'd rather go for a hike or take a spin class and have a good sweat session to relieve stress. Came here with a girlfriend who is getting married later this year for a day of pampering. We both did the transformation package and got the pagoda massages as well. Started off with a tea ceremony then we went to the cedar baths and finally finished with the massages. The cedar enzyme bath was really cool and nothing like I've ever done before. You basically are submerged in a pit full of very finely ground wood/cedar and the enzymes in the cedar give off heat naturally. It definitely got hot but our attendant provided water periodically. The view from the cedar bath was also very nice. After the cedar bath, they give you brushes to clean off and there are showers right outside. We then put back on our robes and were led on a quick tour of the meditation garden/grounds before separately heading to our pagodas for massages. The pagodas are private and strewn about the grounds. Mine was a bit of a walk and close to the creek. My massage therapist was fantastic and the quality of the massage was great! The 75 minutes was the perfect amount of time to relax into a light sleep (I'm pretty sure I dozed off). After our massages we hung out in the meditation garden for a while. It's a beautiful space and you can stay as long as you like as part of the treatment. There are changing rooms and lockers in the main building. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. Only suggestion I would make is to clearly explain the flow of the treatment and expectations to newbies. When we first got to the tea room we sat for about 10 min wondering what was supposed to be happening. Everything you need (robe, towels, slippers, toiletries) are provided. Just bring a change of clothes. It's is $$$$ but I may try to come here at least once a year. Nice hustle, but it just ain't all that. My hour massage was more like high 30s or 40-something minutes due to all the filler time they incorporate into the massage set up and tear down activities. No pun intended. Privacy was lacking, my outdoor massage temple table was visible from other areas, and visa versa. I felt uneasy and on display. (The grounds simply are not as spacious as the images in advertising show- hard to truly relax.) Further, my masseuse was in a hurry. My wife was nearby at another station and she felt rushed too. We have no desire to return at any price, let alone pay their hefty price tag. The only thing that could have been worse is if it were cold outside. That would be miserable. I think it may be novel for people from a loud and crowded city, yet for those of us who live in some amount of nature, the bar is set too low. Good con. Absolutely beautiful retreat, wouldn't recommend the cedar enzyme bath if you have even slightly reactive sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and it was extremely itchy and unpleasant almost to thee point where I didn't want to follow up with a massage. My skin broke out in hives, my hands and feet were itchy including the palms of my hands and it was excruciating. When I went to the massage portion of the package, everything changed, my skin began to calm down and I received the best massage of my life. The therapist was very pregnant but I didn't find that it was an issue given the potent pressure of my deep tissue massage. Highly recommend the massage, I really wish they had an alternative to the itchy cedar enzyme bath. Even just a sauna or mud bath with cedar essential oil would be great, sitting in saw dust is not my jam. Great location, really feels like a getaway destination even if you're a Sonoma county resident. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I went here hoping for a nice relaxing spa day and booked one of their package called "rejuvenating package" but it turns out to be the complete opposite of this which was a stressful & aggravating experience. From the moment I checked in and got out, I was disappointed with the overall service. As our first time here, my daughter and I will never go back. This place deserves zero star. Customer service is extremely poor. Front desk is disorganized and does not seem to care about the customers. I had to wait for a long time for the massage therapist in the cold patio after the bath with wet hair and robe. I got tired waiting, so I went back and the therapist finally spotted me. The same therapist - Daisy - who kept walking past me several times out in the patio which never acknowledged me until at least 30 minutes or so with me waiting. Then check out process was a nightmare. Vanessa R. who was working there lacked courtesy and was very rude and non accommodating. Both Vanessa and Michael could not reconcile the payment that we had previously paid because one of their staff who took our payment left the day already, instead they made us wait while they called the lady that did the transaction (my daughter did not get her name she had a bright green sweater that day and she had pink color dyed hair). We waited for at least another 10 minutes for them to figure out their check register reconciliation issue. I was in a hurry because we had a two hour drive back. I realized after looking at my receipt that I overpaid as Vanessa charged me one service I did not even receive. I have been in many amazing spa all over the Valley. Osmosis day spa is hardly a spa nor a sanctuary. I will never go back. read more

It was raining this day which added to the enclosed, remote and elemental feeling this [more than a spa] already had. The sound of pitter patter of rain on bamboo, trickling water in the Zen garden, and a light wind were tugging at my soul. My wife and I spent a half day at Osmosis while on vacation this past November, and chose it based on the location and positive reviews. Starting with a ceder bath, we were expecting a bath in a cedar tub.. Not the case! Haha, we found the earthy cedar enzyme bath both interesting and relaxing. After tea, I got the longest, most thorough facial in my life, although only my second. Very reviving. More tea. Before heading outside to small alcove for a nice salad lunch, I was waiting for my wife's massage to finish, and began studying woodblock prints on the wall. I didn't know the works of Kawase Hasui before then, but now I have them in my home. My massage was generally great, I felt very relaxed in the pagoda. The wooded outdoors experience kept with Osmosis' theme, and I felt a lot of tension removed from my muscles. Lastly the meditation garden is ridiculously well done. There is so much detail, balance and flow you could easily spend loads of time here, getting lost [or found] in your thoughts. read more

I enjoyed the relaxation of the cedar bath treatment and the meditation garden. However, the facility itself is definitely in need of a facelift. The pictures online make the place look so much more pristine and expansive. I received good direction from my attendant from the tea room, cedar bath, and shower. However, I was instructed to leave my slippers outside of the cedar bath area as I would be going directly from the cedar bath room to the shower, but I wish I brought the slippers in with me as I wanted them in the shower. One of the shower heads was almost completely black where the water came out. Thankfully, there was another, cleaner one on the other wall which I used. Then there was the sound meditation room which just felt like a sterile bedroom with 2 twin beds. I was told the sound/music would end in about 30 minutes, but I didn't know whether to just get up and go or wait for my attendant after the music ended. I waited awhile but felt I was forgotten, so I went back down and tried to find the dressing room to get changed. I wonder if anyone would have come to get me if I had fallen asleep. I had to ask directions of an attendant who just stepped out of one of the treatment rooms as I also wanted to walk the mediation garden but didn't know if I was supposed to get dressed and check out first and then do the mediation garden. Better follow through would have been appreciated. read more

I sustained a serious injury to my lower spine as a result of my massage with Robert over a month ago, from which I'm still in pain and recovering. I don't know what compels a masseuse to press all his body weight into someone's lower spine but that is exactly what he did. I should have listened to my gut from the very beginning of the massage, when he was running all around the table to give me a massage (who the hell does that?!). Beware: you may be sold on this hippy place of healing, but clearly these people do not know what they're doing. I have done a lot of massage over the past several years (used to go monthly before covid to someone I trusted in the city) and I can tell you right now that at least Robert is a total quack. By the way, I emailed the spa a couple days later to inform them. Standard apology, still paid the over $300 for my package. All I got for that money is a hell of a lot of pain, missed work, and an uncertain future of my spine health. read more

This will always be one of my Northern Ca happy places. A lot of upgrades have been made: since my last visit this year: new lockers, robes, amenities, etc. Unfortunately, my last visit wasn't as enjoyable as usual due to an unexpected turn of events. Our enzyme bath attendant, Danielle had little personality and assumed we knew that the blanket wrap after the bath wasn't included due to the holiday (day after Thanksgiving??). I was unaware of this when I booked the appointments. Had I known this was not going to be included, I may not have booked for the day. These rooms are also used for massage appointments. I appreciated that she was able to allow us to have the blanket wrap. Prices have increased by $20. I still feel the 20 minute enzyme bath is worth it, but not without a blanket wrap after to further extend the relaxation process. read more

Wonderful experience and beautiful scenery! This is an amazing place we have here in Sonoma County. I got the Transformation Spa package, which I reserved by phone. It begins with sipping tea in a beautiful garden and I felt so relaxed. Then had the cedar enzyme bath, ending with the most wonderful massage. This was the most relaxing experience I've had in a long time. When I got home I was amazed at how flexible and loose I felt, and regenerated. The entire day was beautiful, from the drive to Freestone, walking the mediation garden, and the treatment. And all of the staff are so friendly, attentive and professional. I've gone to osmosis many times over the past 20 years. I always have a good experience in general, though the prices are quite high. My complaint about the last time was at checkout, when I was told that they expect a 20% gratuity. I'm not opposed to a 20% gratuity. But I am opposed to being told they expect that from me. Gratuities are important, but they should be a welcomed and valued offering from the patron, not an expectation of a certain amount (presumably to compensate for low pay) at a place that charges high end prices. Had I asked what amount was typical, then telling me 20% would have been fine. I have not experienced this here or elsewhere, and it felt tacky. I had a good experience with my assistant, but she was on her cell phone and didn't see me come out, so I had to find her texting in the break room. I would still have tipped, and did, but that experience added to my resentment with being told there was an expectation of a certain amount of tip at checkout. read more

Me and my boyfriend enjoyed our time here. We didn't really know what to expect when we went over here since I just stumble upon this hidden gem through a website that has a list of sonoma spas. We did the warmth of love for two which has the cedar enzyme bath and a massage. The waiting room is amazing. They will give you a couple of minutes to hang out in the waiting room alone (not with other stranger guests). We had tea and chilled there with a relaxing view. Then we were sent to do our bath first. Which was something very unique and fun experience. We enjoyed it a lot. There was no view to enjoy this one so you are kinda just stuck to closing your eyes since there's nothing to see. The massage is amazing! Staff are all friendly as well. The entrance is unassuming, however inside is a warm welcome and a hidden gem of a spa and several acres of beautiful, zen gardens. The enzyme cedar bath was wonderful. Do expect the air to be sauna-like . I didn't imagine it to be that hot. Our attendant, Abby, was a doll and put a straw to our mouths, so we could sip cold water. I felt like royalty! Kumi is an amazing, skillful masseuse! My body felt extremely good for at least a week later. She listened to my requests, as to the areas that needed most attention. Many techniques were used, which kept the massage interesting, aside from the amazing feel. I've never been big on facials, as I feel I could easily do my own at home, however this experience changed my mind. The treatments were very relaxing-except for the extractions, of course. My face was glowing afterwards! Also, the Aesthetician, Azja, left a few samples with a sweet note for me at the front desk, which was a nice touch. The reason for the lack of 5 stars is because, though I called ahead of time and informed them I wanted a shiatsu style massage, I had to request it at the time of my massage. (No big deal really, since my request was met). Also, my husband called to pay for my treatments as a surprise and it did not happen, so the missing star is because of some lack of communication. That said when my husband called them about the matter they were genuinely apologetic. One word of caution, the road to the spa is rather winding, so you might want to schedule your treatments to ensure you are done before the sun goes down, if you do not want to drive on a winding road in the dark. I was stuck between 2 stars and 3 but here it goes : I will be 23 in May, and have been wanting to come here since I was 16 years old. Back then, I couldn't afford it and never made it around until now where I forced myself to make the time. I decided to book a "spa day" for my hubby and I. We are expecting our first Baby in June so this was his birthday gift / baby moon treat for us. Well, I definitely want to start by saying I had way too high of expectations for this place. Maybe when I was 16 it looked like the coolest place ever so I always kept it in my mind as a magical place that I NEED to visit and experience. Well, I've since worked in many spas throughout the Napa Valley including Indian Springs in Calistoga, Meadowood in Saint.Helena , and a few more. So maybe my high expectations definitely come from experiencing high end, wonderful facilities. Osmosis puts on a good front on the website that's for sure! The pictures make it look so magical which don't get me wrong , the OUTSIDE and what nature has to offer is incredible and breath taking. However, the facility itself is just overall disappointing. Coming during COVID probably has a lot to do with it, but even without COVID I wonder, would my experience be that much different? I don't think so. Don't expect a pretty spa smell like most spas- the cedar is over powering. I guess because of COVID no spa robes are provided and we weren't offered any spa shoes, which was super weird to me. Because I mentioned multiple times when booking that we want to enjoy and lounge after our massages. Just because someone isn't receiving a bath, doesn't mean we shouldn't be offered spa shoes. It makes no sense to me! Anyway , we were guided to the spa room which I felt super rushed from the moment we were greeted. We got a couples massage and it was pretty overwhelming with both therapist talking super loud and fast explaining everything before leaving the room for us to change and get under the sheet. It seemed like they just stepped out to let us change and then they knocked- I had to tell them we weren't undressed yet. Again, felt super rushed. I was overwhelmed too because I was receiving a pregnancy massage and my therapist had to set up the pillow for me before I undressed and it was just a lot going on at once. I am used to sitting and being consulted very calmly.. but there was nothing calm about this intro. Anyway, after they came in our treatment began and the therapist were both nice don't get me wrong, it was a good massage, I'm just used to FORBES standards. So it was just very different... For the price I paid I expected a lot more from the facility. There are no amenities to enjoy. I was SUPER excited for this day and when I realized I had to change back into my normal clothes and put on my wedges again (because I was not offered spa shoes) I was just discouraged. We walked out to the meditation area after I had to ask for a cup of tea.. which was luke warm when given to me and by the time we made our way down the long path outside to enjoy the LITTLE cup of tea , it was cold. So we sat their with our iced tea, on a wooden hard bench because the meditation cushions were dirty and did not make me want to sit on them. I was super surprised how dirty they were .. again, for the price they charge here. I figured there would be a spa attendant to maybe clean up tea cups , offer tea. But no. There wasn't even a station to refill your tea. Who's going to want to walk all the way back up the long path to the front desk every time they want more tea? Makes no sense. When booking my reservation the lady I spoke with made it sound like "oh yeah you can enjoy as much tea, lay back and relax" WHERE? Where is there to lay back and relax? WHAT TEA? I had to ask to get a small cold cup and forget it if I wanted a refill. And the only way to enjoy their "tea garden" is to book a bath or something like that. DO NOT go during this annoying COVID time, especially if you're claustrophobic. You have to wear your mask and when you're face down without your mask you're breathing into this weird bag thing that makes you feel like you can't breathe. Just a strange disappointing experience. Very nice experience! My husband and I stopped in here to help celebrate our second wedding anniversary. We wanted to try out the cedar bath and also get a massage together. We got the Rejuvenation package 2 1/2 hours $239 each. We were able to book the cedar bath together and it was very interesting it spelled a little strange at first but we were only in there for about 20-30 minutes and I got used to it after a while. It's like being buried in wet sand, very heavy on your body. We were not able to book a couples massage but that was ok. We both got the Swedish Esalen Massage. Very nice she asked me if I had any sports injuries or places to focus on or not touch, very nice 75 minutes! In between the bath and massage we took a shower and before the bath we sat and drank some tea in our own private garden. Great experience, pricey but great. Will hopefully go back. read more

Disappointing experience and will not return! I have visited Osmosis over the years with spa gift cards from my husband marking special occasions. My husband a retired Viet Nam vet was diagnosed with 4th stage cancer 3 years ago - many complications and treatments. Yet, he managed to arrange for a Rejuvenation spa card. Due to COVID restrictions, his multiple treatments and my heavy caregiving we were not able to return. Last week we had some free time and I called to ask if spa card could be honored at the value he purchased given all the out of control circumstances. Kristen, the manager said the prices for service had gone up and "they just couldn't honor it at its purchase value because Osmosis would not make money". Her manner was very condescending and syrupy. Even reminding her that I have supported Osmosis over the years made no difference! Clearly Osmosis has changed it orientation to a Money Maker goal and less of a service to help people. The Rejuvenation spa package took me into the cedar bath which in this visi I experienced a lot of flys buzzing around my face. When I mentioned it to the attendant she just agreed. It was very annoying and not relaxing. The massage was ok and she was at least more attentive to my massage. I am in sympathy with service-industry businesses but found Osmosis to be less sympathetic to its clients and keeping people safe in this COVID climate. Osmosis received $463,690 as a PPP loan during COVID. And Osmosis continued to offer massage with a Doctor's letter during COVID. Your word is your honor in business and many other services oriented people I have come across view that we are all in these hard times together (COVID, inflation, price hikes) and caring for people who have supported you in the past (and currently) is important. I brought a friend here for the warmth of love package. It was a new experience for me and overall I did enjoy it. The cedar bath was slightly uncomfortably warm but in the most satisfying way. The cool towel and sips of water midway were heavenly. The sheer amount of sweat that left my body in this treatment made me feel like the toxins were flooding out of my skin. My face felt very soft afterwards for a few days! The design of the spa is very thoughtful, with the cedar bath area seamlessly transitioning into the shower stall and into the dressing room. Our massages were both very good. I couldn't really smell the aromatherapy but perhaps that was because my nose was clogged from the massage! My masseuse did a good job lengthening and targeting spots that I asked her to. I usually do not really enjoy massages but this time I did. I actually fell asleep at the end of it because I was so relaxed. We enjoyed the meditation garden and walking around the property, sipping spa water and munching on dried mango and nuts. The package certainly is expensive but I do think you get what you pay for. I will most likely be back, but due to the cost, it will only be for special occasions! read more

Wow my mom and I went for cedar bath and then I had a facial and she had a massage. Jasmine gave the best facial I've ever had in my life! She has truly magical skilled hands. I liked the products and left with some lovely goodies from the shop. The bath was over the top too I can't wait to go back. Came here for my boyfriend's birthday and it was an amazing warmth love experience. Great zen and peaceful environment to get away from the busy work life style. Cedar bath experience was a must! Had a massage with Trevor and kudos to him! I receive a regular massage back home in Oakland and I generally do not find any other spa masseuse having much technique. The zen garden is well put together, but what we did find interesting was that there was a random old vehicle there along with seeing 2 rats in the garden which kind of ruined the mood. There is not much relaxation space in this establishment indoors, however, if you enjoy nature, this is the place to be. read more

It's always a shock when you pay twice as much for something that turns out to only be average. The enzyme bath was unique and relaxing. The message was pretty good, but felt like it never really got going. She spent a bit too much time hovering her hands over my body - something about energy. I guess I prefer actual muscle-kneading to feel-good vibes. There was a lot of waiting between treatments, which was probably supposed to be relaxing, but actually just felt like sitting on benches drinking tea. Overall, didn't feel worth the money. Can't wait to try Indian Springs next. read more

Facial was nice but the odor inside the facility was horrible! Took away from the whole experience and couldn't wait to get back outside for fresh air. Smelled like thick miso soup inside every room. Beautiful grounds and pleasant staff but the odor was so bad I will not be back. read more

A memorable and outdoor spa experience unlike any other I've had. It's hard to get into but don't give up: our visit resulted from persistent phone calls the day before after being placed on a waitlist. This place feels like a throwback to the hippie days of the seventies except super clean and updated. It's in a beautiful location not too far from Sonoma up some windy roads in the hills. Our excellent massages were outside in secluded hits that were private and filled with windows overlooking the green forest. The paths to get there wound around bamboo stands, a koi pond, and meditation garden. Afterwards we had a couples cedar bath. Think mud bath (it's hot stuff you sit in naked) but instead of wet dirt it's fragrant vanilla/cedar sawdust. It's a Japanese treatment and while strange it felt great. We appreciated that while it was hot (we could only last 15 minutes totally covered) we didn't fear getting scalded as we sometimes have in mud baths. A nice attendant brought water and cool cloths. The private shower after was super clean, bright and modern. They were super responsible about Covid and we felt relaxed and fortunate to have had such a special experience. read more
