What a rink! I love that the town uses it for roller skating…read moreduring the warm season! Me and my daughter had fun! There was great choice of music on the playlist. (I wish the music was louder lol) Looks like there was a summer camp teaching lessons too! I wish I was in the class because they played tag and did a few rounds of limbo. Winthrop Rink has their Great Outdoor Classic hockey tournament and require a $50 deposit just to…read moreapply and have your team considered. Yet they won't refund your deposit if you're not accepted. For the 12U tournament specifically, they had 20 teams apply and only 12 teams accepted. So the Winthrop Rink is keeping $400 for basically nothing. As a good business, they should refund the $50 deposit if teams aren't accepted. Them refusing to refund the deposit is a very sketchy business practice. Hockey is expensive enough the way it is. I'm recommending to all the other Seattle area hockey associations to skip the Great Outdoor Classic. Or at least buyer beware that there is a possibility of you losing money if they choose not to accept your team. Methow Valley Sports Trails Association is a non-profit that manages a massive network of trails…read morethat spans 200km though out Winthrop and Mazama. The trails are mostly over US Forest service lands but do cross through some other federal and private lands, in arguably the most beautiful areas of Washington State. The network runs along rivers, through meadows, forests, next to rugged cliffs, over bridges and in one case- under a road. In the winter it's common to see non-migratory animal like deer, squirrels, and eagles while passing through. Many of the trails are fairly gentle, but steep hills do exist and those are well marked. MVSTA offers free maps that clearly show the trails and junctions in kilometers. Winter offers superb cross country skiing of all types because the trails are regularly groomed. You can even try the new 'Fat Bike' sport on some of the trails like the Bitterbrush. They have trails ranging from the easy green to moderately challenging blue to advanced black trails. The MVSTA website has links to trail conditions and weather. Summer and Fall are also great, after the sun has firmed up the muddy trails. Hikers and Mountain bikers can enjoy the same trails the skiers had all winter. Most are single track, but there are sections of double track. You can ride for miles over gradual rolling hills and through blue sky meadows and piney forest. The air is wonderful here. I recommend to anyone who loves getting active in the Great Northwest!

It's the rare occasion to complain about skiing conditions. The terrain is varied with flats for the beginners, steep and technical for the advanced and plenty of great scenery for all. Eating can be challenging. I've had as many forgettable meals in the valley as I've had memorable. So watch out! I recommend eating in Twisp and recreating in Winthrop and Mazama. I hear the area is great in the summer too, but I wouldn't know anything about that.

My parents and many relatives had to relocate there during WW2 and it was there that my mother after many years had found new love in an old friend, my step father. To this day, they have lived there for over 30 years and pretty much all of my stepfathers life. It is a small town with a big heart. Quiet, picturesque, nestled in a valley and an inbetweener from Osoyoos to Grandforks. During the summer it is a destination for recreational motorcyclists to drop in on their way up the province. If you happen to drive through, drop on in for a coffee and a walk through the town and experience an old mining towns charm! It's a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. This being the smallest city in Canada.

Outside of Diablo Lake Vista Point, I'd consider this Washington Pass Overlook a major focal point…read moreand next best activity at North Cascades National Park. Washington Pass is located all the way in the eastern section of North Cascades...near Rainy Lake. When you're driving along Highway 20 that cuts through the heart of the park, it can't be missed and there's a pretty noticeable sign to grab your attention. Once here, the parking lot has enough spaces available and there's plenty of visitors coming and going throughout the day. After exiting your car, there's a very short paved pathway walk to the overlook. It'll take 5 minutes at the most. Once standing at the observation lookout, you're afforded spectacular views of "Liberty Bell Mountain, Early Winters Spires and Kangaroo Ridge" according to fs.usda.gov. I'd basically categorize the backdrop as a wide open perspective setting of the North Cascades Mountain Range. And there's more! Towards the backend of the viewpoint, if you continue gently climbing over a few rocks, you get another fantastic undisturbed glance from high above Highway 20. Also, if you happen to be visiting on a clear and sunny day, the surroundings can have you speechless. And when getting ready to leave here and move onto the next hike/attraction, you'll be left with fond memories and a newfound motivation for the great outdoors. Some extra details... - 30 minutes is enough time to become acquainted with the scenery. - There are restrooms next to the parking lot. - I visited midday back in July and the sun was well positioned in the sky for good photography. - Right near the trailhead walk towards the overlook, there's a terrific sign mentioning a bunch of Highway 20 Featured Hikes & Sights. I took a picture of the sign. Here are a sampling of recommended trails...Gorge Creek Falls Trail, Diablo Lake Trail, Thunder Knob Trail, Happy Creek Forest Walk, Canyon Creek Trail, Cutthroat Lake Trail and Lone Fir Interpretive Trail. - My next area of the park to explore was situated a few miles west along Highway 20. At the Rainy Pass Picnic Area, I hiked Maple Pass Trail which was a moderately strenuous path and took half the day to complete. I'd suggest attempting Maple Pass Trail if you have the time. Overall, Washington Pass Lookout is a Must-Do stop within North Cascades NP. It well represents what makes this area of Northern Washington so spectacularly beautiful. And really best of all, you don't have to work hard to capture stunning views.

Gorgeous...a must-stop!…read more We recently took a road trip through the North Cascades National Park. Once we arrived at the pass we pulled up to a closed gate, as the roads weren't all open yet for the season. No worries, we walked the road up to the overview from there. The overview is great, a very large parking area, plenty of restrooms, and picnic tables in beautiful settings. We took the path from the lot to the overview...stunning. A "see it in person because pics won't do it justice" type of spot. Take the loop back around to the lot, as the beauty continues and the path is short, but winding and fun. Lots of chipmunks and birds to watch on your short journey. Washington Pass is gorgeous to drive and even more breathtaking to see from above.

This is Princeton's most famous landmark. It's an old bridge and it's a single lane! This brown…read morebridge called The Brown Bridge crosses the Tulameen River. It was built in the 1930s. Let's give credit to the City of Princeton for preserving this historic landmark which has a lot of character. The first bridge built on this river was swept away during a flood in 1886. After the incident, this bridge was built with better construction and it sure paid off. In 1958, a huge ice jam on the river almost took down The Brown Bridge, but it survived. I had a lot of fun walking on this bridge and driving across it too. I ended up putting the car in reverse so I could let another car cross it.
