Alan guided us around the old town explaining the history and showing us key sights interspersed with stops at 5-6 (so many I lost count) artisanal chocolate shops where we feasted of pralines (in American parlance-bon bons or filled chocolates ) ranging from caramel to chili/mango, crème brûlée and more. Most were almost too pretty to even eat and we savored every precious bite. The artistry and skill was amazing and the quality super high as Belgiums like FRESH chocolate. All of them were the evening tours so they gave you a perfect mix of history but also the cool stories too! The first one I took was in Bruges and the guide named Bram was fantastic. He was local to the area and the views were great. Our tour size was about 10ish people and was perfect. The second tour was in Brussels and I had Ellie as a guide. She knew a lot about the area and had studied museum history so it was perfect. There were only 3 of us on the tour so it was quite casual. The third tour I met up with a friend and we toured Antwerp with our guide Tom. It was just the two of us for that tour and Tom did a great job showing us the sites and not rushing us through! All the tours and guides were fantastic and I truly recommend taking a tour. Especially the evening tours because you get history that you wouldn't have thought to explore!

We absolutely adored this hotel…read more Checking in our room was far away from the elevators as requested and we realized they'd gifted us a delicious fruit plate when we opened our door. The view from our room was fantastic, one of the best we've ever had while traveling, and we loved the comfortable chair and bench facing the water. I do wish they had a bit more luggage space but the hotel was welcoming and comfortable and it's an old building which, we discovered on a tour, used to be a brothel. The hotel's history is showcased through the two gold swans that still sit facing away from each other on the front of the building. The swans symbolize fidelity and by facing away from one another and in gold they were a notification for potential patrons who could not read. To go back to the hotel in it's current form, the lobby includes two glass elevators at opposite ends of the hotel and breakfast is offered in the adjoining restaurant in the mornings. All in all, our stay at the Ghent Marriott Hotel was wonderful and I would highly recommend it to those looking to visit Ghent.

The small group allowed our tour guide to be personable and converse candidly with us. He gave us a lot of good insight into the history of Ghent and his own insights as a local. I learned a lot of interesting facts and stories about the city and several of its buildings. At the time of this posting, the price was 7 Euros per person and cards were accepted.

It was a nice/Hot day and some type of shade in the waiting area would have been nice. 12 Euros and they do accept cards. This was my second time taking the tour and it was ok. It was difficult to hear the Captain/Guide given he was speaking fast as he was trying to provide the information in a couple of languages. In addition, the PA system wasn't clear. Overall, a good way to see Brugge from the canal perspective. More to enjoy the sights vs sights and information.
