RJL/Bob was CONTRACTED to: -Paint four rooms in our house…read more(living room, two bedrooms, kitchen) -Sheetrock, prime and paint two closets -Install crown moulding in the kitchen -Install a wood chase between kitchen/dining room Bob required $600 upfront and $1100 upon completion of the project, as stated in the contract he prepared and we signed. Bob seemed like a very honest person upon our first two meetings. What was estimated to be a 1-2 week job has turned into an 8 week nightmare in which our job was abandoned around the 4th week AFTER a second payment installment of $500 was requested and given. Around the 3rd week it was beginning to become clear that Bob either bit off more than he could chew, took another higher paying job, or simply had planned to scam us the entire time. Which scenario is the truth, we aren't sure. Around the 4th week when things were taking longer than expected, he asked for more money because it was taking longer and because he had "hired an extra set of hands to help finish." Like the honest, reasonable people we are, we gave Bob the additional $500 bringing the total paid to $1100 (and over $500 on our account at the hardware store). It was after that payment that Bob stopped responding to phone calls and during one week while we weren't at the house (it is a weekend house), Bob cleared out his remaining equipment and without so much as a return phone call or note, left our house key on the kitchen counter and abandoned our project without finishing. Over the entire course of the project we were understanding of his needing more time, and frequently checked in with him to make sure he was feeling OK about the project. At one point around the 3rd week he did express that he had underestimated the project but would honor his commitment to complete it and that he just needed more time. We happily obliged and had planned to give him extra money upon completion. However, that never happened. What we ended up with was two painted rooms, a half painted bedroom, a half painted kitchen, and none of the other projects completed. While he was painting he also repaired some cracks and those cracks have since cracked again and will have to be fixed. At the end of the day we feel we received about $500 worth of work for $1100. Whether he is a scam artist or he simply bid on a project too big for him to complete and out of the realm of his capabilities we will never know. But what we do know is that we WOULD NEVER USE HIM AGAIN.

I have utilized RJL Painting services repeated times within the past several years. Bob is very…read morerespectful and honest. He always arrives on time and he is willing to work at any time. He is very courteous and he goes above and beyond what is asked. His extra services are very much appreciated. The free estimates he gives are always fair. His quality of work is exceptional and he completes his tasks in a timely manner. He takes pride in his work and it shows. I use him for all of my home improvements needs.

After reading mixed reviews I decided to take a chance and hire Dan's Quality Painting…read more qual.I.ty. noun the standard of something measured against other things of a similar kind ; the degree of excellence of something The job was to paint a small kitchen a shade lighter & paint a dark powder room white. The other part of the job was to finish painting a bathroom that my husband started but didn't get to finish. If you care about a quality paint job do not hire Dan Umbro 1) he is a painter who tells he did 2 coats to cover the existing dark color and when he's ready to leave you have to point out that the color is showing through but he will do another coat " if you want him to"( I supplied Benjamin Moire Regal Select with primer in it)- that Is not quality 2) he is a painter who has to have glaring imperfections pointed out for which he has several excuses all ending in " if you want me to"- that is not quality 3) he is a painter who should immediately make an appointment with an eye Dr because he doesn't see what we see and had to repaint some walls because they dried as streaky as they looked when they were wet - that is not quality 4) he is a painter ( not a business man )who doesn't carry business cards but tells you to refer people to his website- he also told me that he would " take care of me" by giving me a " kickback" for a job he got from my referral -quality workmanship speaks for itself & doesn't require bribes The only recommendation I have is for Dan to remove the word QUALITY from the name of his business because it is grossly misrepresented. He has no standards and his degree of excellence and pride in his work are non existent !

Had a horrible experience with this painter. He's a smooth talker, who tells you what you want to…read morehear, but is very dishonest. He told us he completed more than he did (to get us to mail a check to him, which we did on good faith), also told us he put on two coats of paint, when it was obvious he only did one (and someone who visited our home and looked at his work thought he may have watered down the paint!) The quality of his work is VERY poor; stripes on our ceilings and in all corners of each room he painted, because he didn't cut in properly. (I have photos of all of this.) Dripped some paint on our new floors and didn't clean it up. Lastly, he never finished; took the money and disappeared, isn't responding to texts or calls. We paid him about 50% of the total job (an entire interior and exterior), he did about 20% of the work and much of it needs to be redone, since the quality is so poor. Since I mentioned this to others in the Rhinebeck area, we've heard stories of him not finishing jobs, not paying his workers, and other tales of poor quality work. We are now considering taking him to small claims court to try and recoup some of our money (but what a hassle). BEWARE!!
