We were graciously greeted as soon as we walked into Wisteria Carlina, and the space itself felt intimate and aesthetically pleasing. The overall ambiance was warm and cozy, perfect for a relaxed dinner. Fantastic experience! For our appetizer, we had the beef tartare which was phenomenal and perfectly fresh. We each tried a different pasta, we had the squid ink with crab, lemon pappardelle , and mushroom pasta, and all were great. I will say the squid ink with crab could've used a little bit more flavor, but honestly, it was very light which I enjoyed and there was a copious amount of crab meat. An underrated addition to our meal was the focaccia which was genuinely some of the best bread I've had in a long time. I must say that the service is driving a large portion of my review. The host/manager could not have been more amazing and genuinely made our experience incredible. In conjunction with that all other staff was extremely kind and accommodating, and I simply have not a singular note on the service here. Ambience is lovely as well. It's intimate, cozy and casual. Really great no-frills Italian restaurant in West Village. Not loud, and easy to book a table with little notice. They definitely seem to take care in what they're providing, and the lighting is dim and intimate. The service was attentive. The pasta definitely tasted homemade and fresh, and the mushrooms that decorated it were deep and flavorful. The dish was well balanced and I would come back again, especially to catch up with someone. The ambiance is perfect for you to be able to have a conversation with someone. The tables are a bit tight together, so especially in the winter where everyone has bulky jackets, just be careful about bumping into other tables if you sit along the sofa area. Came here for their advertised happy hour - however, we were met by a very grouchy Bar guy who didn't even give us the happy hour menu until we asked him - which he was annoyed by doing so. We did not receive a menu just a verbal listing of what wine was on the happy hour... Which I had to ask twice when he was saying what was on it because the music was so loud. The atmosphere is perfectly cozy and romantic, with soft jazz playing in the background. We ordered the vitello tonnato to start - pretty tasty, but could've used a thicker tuna sauce. The real stars of the show were the pastas. Having the Tajarin was like being transported right back to northern Italy. Every bite was heaven. Fantastic Italian restaurant in west village! This was honestly one of the best pasta restaurants I've been to in Manhattan so far. I especially loved the mushroom pasta we ordered-- the texture of the pasta was fantastic and the sauce was creamy and scrumptious (but not too heavy)! Walked up with no reservations during the weekday and was seated immediately. It's elevated and feels intimate (white linen tablecloths, waiters are dressed up), but doesn't feel stuffy at all. We probably could've ordered one more pasta, but generally was enough food: -Pizzetta al Tegamino: great app. Comes cut into 4 slices. Bread is doughy. Favorite thing we ordered. -Capesante e Ciliegie (scallops): comes with 4. Scallops melt in your mouth. Sauce is fairly mild and light. -Tagliatelle D'Astice (lobster pasta): fresh and light. A middle school cafeteria with toursits vibe - $80 cover charge Saturday night, I made a reservation at Osteria Carlina West Village. We arrived 15 minutes early, took one look around, and decided it wasn't for us. Think tourist crowd with groups seated side-by-side on low chairs like a middle school cafeteria. We POLITELY told the host we'd like to cancel, he nodded, no problem. Yet we were still charged $80 for the privilege of not dining there. When I called to clarify, their solution was to offer us a discount if we came back. I said again politely, "Now I feel forced to dine, and I will not come under these circumstances." and the staff responded "Sure, bye". For anyone looking for an idyllic West Village night, this isn't it. I understand if you charge for no-shows and late cancellations. We arrived early and very very politely informed the host that we'd like to cancel. We've never been charged in NYC for canceling in person, so this charge is unwarranted. Came back to this location as we wanted their Osso Bucco but it was off the new Spring menu (though still on the website menu). We had to settle for the rolled chicken and pasta bolognese. Very disappointed in both as they were tasteless. Chicken had the double whammy of a poorly executed wine sauce and dry chicken? Would a sous vide chicken worked better here? Just asking as I'm only a hobbyist cook and not a restaurant cook anymore. Salad was fresh, tasty and vibrant. That was the highlight of the meal and too bad it was the first course. Expanding any brand is tough. Did the cooks that were at the Hudson location change after opening the Varick Street location? I'm not brave enough to spend another $$ to find out. A fantastic experience. We had the gnocchi with pesto and zucchini flowers and the pappardelle funghi. There's really not a lot of other veg on the menu that appealed to us. No matter. The pappardelle was excellent. (The gnocchi was ok.) also enjoyed my Barbera wine very much, a perfect pairing with the mushroom sauce. I regret not knowing that they don't have a liquor license before coming - they have wine and Prosecco, and some wine-based mixed drinks, but no spirit cocktails. However, what made the experience a little less than ideal was the table layout - too tight/close to other diners - and the wait staff, who were not especially helpful or informative with menu questions. We shared the crispy crab tarte, Cesare salad, short rib agnolotti, duck shredded pasta and potato side. The crab tarte was tasty but was probably not ideal to share. The short rib agnolotti and the potato side was our favorite, wished we skipped the duck pasta and just gotten two short rib agnolottis, it was a pack of flavor. For dessert, we got the lemon ricotta cake and the hazelnut mascarpone. The hazelnut was to dieee for and the lemon was a skip. Great spot overall, who doesn't love fresh pasta. My only suggestion for management and the chef, is to introduce a vegetarian section on their menu. Osteria Carlina is a nice addition to the West Village, with good Italian food in a cozy space that's not as loud as some of the restaurants on busier streets. Service was great, with friendly staff who were very attentive and had generous pours for wine by the glass. Appetizers were good -- the meatballs (polpettine) definitely stole the show! The beef tartare was just okay, it didn't jump out as particularly flavorful. And the tuna sauce it came with was a little weird, like eating a puréed can of tuna on top of the beef. I wouldn't go for that particular dish again. For entrees, the ravioli was delicious, with al dente texture and really nice filling. The tagliatelle left something to be desired, though. It was a tad overcooked, and the ragu didn't add much to the dish. Also a little more oily than I would have liked. Tiramisu dessert was well done, served in a glass cup with all the usual trimmings. I could taste the coffee-soaked biscuit and cocoa powder, very impressive. Overall the food was fine, service was great, and ambiance was nice. Looking for some European flair to your casual lunch? Look no further than Osteria Carlina! Came here on a Saturday noon, mainly because I wanted pasta. I was met by a wonderful waiter and decided to sit outdoors (because small tables with an umbrella on the sidewalk screams charming italian vibes to me). I ended up ordering a bellini with paccheri ai gamberi con ricotta e pesto and a side of peperoni alla Piemontese. The bellini was good, more alcohol than juice, which is always welcome. The paccheri curbed that pasta craving I had. The pesto was classic: nice basil flavor, not too overpowering on the garlic. The paccheri was tender with a nice bite, and there was enough shrimp added that you didn't feel cheated. The peperoni was a nice compliment, a bit of freshness and herbaceousness to the richness of the main dish. But honestly, you didn't need the peperoni to enjoy the pasta. In addition to the wonderful food, the service was so friendly! I was served by a waiter who enjoyed making small talk. And at a certain point the owner came around and asked us all how we were doing. Sunday for brunch - It's my 3rd time coming here ( twice for dinner ) and this time for brunch. I was excited to come back because of my fond memories of the Prosecco and the dishes I previously had for dinner . Lunch vs dinner is different ( as all places ), my preference is always dinner but the lunch isn't too bad . We shared a salad to start , my friends had a burger and fries , risotto while I had the pasta with porcini mushroom and pasta. I decided to do half with a friend who ordered the burger as I'm a meat eater and love burgers . I wish I didn't as my pasta was the better dish ( pasta cooked al dente And the sauce was well seasoned , delicious ). The burger was medium rare as recommended by the server ( it was a bit rare for my taste). While all were tasty , the food was we're all different temperatures, the burger was cooked and was sitting there a while before served . I wasn't surprise as everything was slow ( from ordering to getting our dishes , check and paying ). I can't blame the server as he was one person with some help but for the amount of patrons , the restaurant needed more. I came here after posting a rave review on Resy because our dining experience was THAT GOOD, we want to shout it from the rooftops and i am blown away by the reviewers who are like "meh, the place is small." Get a grip! This the west village, if you want something this restaurant cannot provide, go somewhere else. Elite Yelpers are the most annoying people on the planet. For Real, Back to this gem of a place... it was perfection. we ordered the pizza from the truffle menu and I felt like I'd died and gone to heaven! The pizza was perfection in execution and taste. We also shared the ceasar salad and it was by far the best take on a ceasar we had ever had. Finally, we shared two pastas, my favorite was the stuffed lobster. The flavors were other worldly and the pasta pillow melted in our mouths. The service was so lovely and attentive, 5-star all the way. Such delicious truffle pasta!! I also recommend the scallops as an appetizer. They are small but marinated in the most delicious sauce. The truffle pasta is one of my favorites in the city. The slightly tacky decor (think "fancy" suburban restaurant) made our hearts sink a bit when we entered, but the welcome was warm, the wine advice good, and the carciofini fritti were excellent. The pastas, alas, were a mess. I ordered the maltagliati alle vongole and my wife the pappardelle nere, and in both cases the pasta was far too thick and leaden. Their pasta roller needs to be set for a much thinner dough. The result was that the pasta did not absorb either sauce but only sat swimming in it. (The truth is, for vongole you are much better off with dry, store--bought pasta that gets half-cooked in the sauce itself.) Also the pasta was under salted, adding to the leaden taste. We may go back some day just to try different pastas to see if they are better. But I urge the chef to rethink how the fresh pastas are made. read more

I didn't agree with all of the choices made, although they seemed interesting on the menu: for example, the ensalata carlina was on a bed of sweet potatoes, but they were cold and the texture just wasn't inviting. We went to Carlina with friends during a week. The place has a beautiful interior and very thoughtful staff. Location is very central on a quiet West Village street. We shared charcuterie and pizza. The meat selection went well with the bread they brought for the table. Pizza was very thick like they do it in Chicago. It was fine. We ordered Paraprdelle with beef ragu, seafood linguine and Baby chicken with mash potatoes. While I enjoyed the parpardelle it felt over salted, the seafood pasta was nice but salty as well.
